Updated: 50 weeks 5 days ago Starting a VC army... but how?So I am new on WHFB and I am starting VC because I just love the look and feel of VC armies. My main focus is painting but of course there is also the playing, so going for the aesthetically most pleasing army made me chose 'em. I have no clue about how to play VCs the best way so I am turning to you for help.
I want to base the army at 2250 points and I want to include units that would be fun painting. I bought a pack of ghouls and I will be getting a few more, setting the main theme for basic troops within my army. I also plan on getting a box of zombies or so as I thought it would be a good idea to raise some of them. I don't really have any preferences with the rest of the units but I will get some blood knights too because they look just stunning. Now, I actually just bought a box of ghouls, the winged vampire lord because I love the model and the codex. I thought of playing vampire lords, necromancers, ghouls, blood knights and wolves or so ... but I basically just decided what units I want based on their looks. In the 40K universe, I play rather straight forward and fast armies and adapted a very flexible and movement-heavy playstyle. From the looks, I'd rather not play a black coach... Apart from that, what would you recommend me to get for my army and what should I take care of when playing? Thanks! Categories: WarSeer Forums
On Dwarfs and WarpstoneDwarfs appear to use Gromril and it's various forms for the purpose of enchanting weapons and armor, and gromril only (or maybe just any strong and stable alloy they can find).
Anyway, you almost never hear of a runesmith using something that could probably accept Dwarf Rune enchantments easily: Warpstone and warpstone alloys. It was Alaric the Mad that made the nemesis crown out of Warpstone, etc, etc. Is it that they don't use the stuff because of it's inherit relation to chaos or it's naturally magical nature? One would think that they would be able to make truly great and powerful weapons capable of surpassing the rule of 3 by using Warpstone alloy as a basis for the weapon. Have there been any cases of Dwarf runesmiths using the stuff that I haven't found yet or is it just that they just plain refuse to use something like warpstone, even if Gromril is found only in Warpstone's presence (unless that is also old and outdated fluff). Also, what are the possible effects of using warpstone, if any, to hold various dwarf runes? I would think that Warpstone, being of a strong magical nature, would actually hold up rather well, and it might even be possible for a Dwarf Runesmith to re-create some of the ancient weapons of old, like that of Grudgebearer and his ilk. Forest Spirit army?It seems viable and cheap! I'm debating to build one as an alternative to my Lizardmen. I really, really love the idea of the army. I've always loved the woods / camping and actually used to have Wood Elves back in 5th before I sold them to a friend.
I would love to field something like Drycha, 5x8 Dryads, 3 Treekin, and 2 regular Treemen. I estimate $305 at the most for an army like this. Thoughts on: 1) Balanced? Able to win a game? It would have 8 DD. I don't want to build OK or something here. 2) Quick to paint? If so, how would you do it? Prime white, paint, dip? Thanks in advance! Categories: WarSeer Forums
Dark Elf units.Hello again sorry to be boring but need to bring up the subject of Dark Elves again (sorry once again if this subject is boring any one by now ).
I recently saw a unit of ' Dark Elf man flayers' what i wish to know is :- How many unit's would any one suggest of them.? Secoundly how many of them should i include in a unit ?. Thirdly are they a vauable addtion to the army that follows ( any other addtion's suggested would also be welcome). 2x units of 20 coursairs. 1x unit of warriors (20 spearmen , 10 crossbowmen). 3x unit of 5 cold one knights. 1x unit 20 executioners. 1x unit 20 black gaurd. 2x unit 5 shades. 1x unit 5 witch elves. 1x bolt thrower with crew. 1x war hydra with beast masters. 1x lokir fellheart. 1x shadowblade. 1x morathi on dark pegasus. 1xmalikith on black dragon. 1x dreadlord on cold one. 1x he dragon converted to de dragon. I should add that only a small partion of the above is painted/assembled/finished. That's my dark elf army up to date and it't taken me about8 mths to get this far as i,m still(in my eye's anyway) a novice so any feed back s most welcome. Many thank's. Categories: WarSeer Forums

Fixing DaemonsI've seen a lot of hate for daemons, and even though in the tournament scene they've been comp'd to hell and back, I wonder how you would change Daemons in order to make them a bit fairer, if you were to rewrite the book.
I'm thinking as these things as a good start. 1. Making the locus ability a paid for thing that takes up magic item allocation 2. Make Daemonic Items 0-1 (the chaos gods don't like repeating themselves) and make them count as real magic items 3. Make the ward save the same as the wood elf one, but give the Greater Daemons an option to take an item that makes the ward save normal I think just those three things would go a long way towards balancing Daemons without changing points costs too much! Incidents that came up in today's game!I had a nice 1000pts game where my Slaanesh Warriors suffered a moral defeat at the hands of Tomb Kings. Most of the game was pretty straight forward, but we got into one messy situation that totally challenged our knowledge of the rules and I'd like to hear what you guys make of it. Rule references are welcome! :)
My line in this game was 2 units of 11 Chaos Warriors in a single rank. The units were side by side at a slight angle to ensure that if one unit got charge the other would have open up for a juicy flank charge. Opposing units were 4 chariot unit with a tomb prince and a unit of light horse with a mounted Icon Bearer. 1) The chariots declare a charge against one of my Warrior units. The distance was 15", but moving straight the chariot unit would end up touching both warrior units. If it wheeled ever so little it would hit the OTHER warrior unit first. In the end we ruled it was a failed charge. Correct? 2) In the movement phase the Icon Bearer's unit made some fast cav magic by reforming from a 6 wide to a 6 long spear with the Icon Bearer at the head and moved 8", effectively moving the Icon Bearer a good 13". We ruled this was ok as "no model/.../ may move more than double its maximum move" (p. 70). Correct? 3) Both chariot and the icon bearer then proceeded to charge the same warrior unit in the magic phase (poor dispell rolls on my side...). The chariots went first followed by the icon bearer's unit. The icon bearer could potentially face 3 warriors (one diagonal) but moved into contact with only one. The rule says "must endeavour to bring the maximum number of models from both sides into combat" (p.21), but in this case all but one warrior was already in combat with the chariots. We ruled the Icon Bearer had to face two Warriors. What do you think? 4) If a model does no longer face any enemies after impact hits are resolved, can they fight in the CC phase. We ruled they could, but were unsure as they "are inflicted/../before any model gets to fight" (p.63) All ideas are appreciated! Categories: WarSeer Forums

Idea: New Slayer Rulesunits are purchased in packs. 5+ ward standard & as each model dies the remaining gain benefits- till if you manage to end up with one model hes the equal to the current lord choice

Raise Dead - declare target?When casting Raise Dead, is it necessary to nominate the point on the board that you wish to create the new unit before a dispel is attempted?

Well been getting back into the game, since i had a few months break, before i left, i was pretty good, my army design was sweet and well balanced and i won a few GW tourns with it ^^ But lately, the people i play have been building list to combat mine LOL, and been slaughtering me pretty bad with the cheap tactics etc, well its time to get my own back :D Anyone have some decent cheap and nasty army builds/tactics i could try out to slaughter them I normally play 2000 point battles against high elves empire lizardmen other vamps skaven dark elves warrios of chaos Suggestions please Categories: WarSeer Forums
Caledors BaneDoes the weapon Caledors bane always negate the scaly skin armour save even in subsequent turns after the charge?

Re-casting failed spellsApologies for this basic question, but in the magic phase each spell on one wizard can be cast only once. The rule book refers to 'attempts,' does this mean if you have 1 spell and either fail to cast it or it is dispelled, then it cannot be cast again? Obviously repeat casts after sucessful casting are prohibited.

What happens if...If you want to charge a unit which is already engaged and although you should charge by it's front, theres no room in there because of your other unit already fighting it.
By common sense i just charge by the flank, but it looks like there's 'zero' reference in the BRB to such situation and i suddenly had some RAW remorses. Categories: WarSeer Forums
Undeath in ChaosIn the new Chaos book, there are stories of Nurgle raising champions from the dead, and even Khorne brought Valkia back to life...

2000 vs 2250?Never really thought about it before but how come some tournaments are at 2000, while others are at 2250? Most of the time when I play for fun its 2000, but I've been thinking about playing a 2250 game just cuase I think it would give slightly more points to put towards heros and still have an army.

New FAQ CommentaryA summary - mainly to help me remember but I though I would share my labours here. :)
Laid out under the following Headings Watch out for Odd Stuff Poorly phrased Contradictory New rules Clarified There will be typos (and mistakes I dare say) as usual as I didn't proof read. Feel free to comment and add. Watch out for: 1) Spearmen, Pikemen, Slann, etc allocating attacks on specific enemy models in close combat. 2) Magic lances are destroyed if the mount is slain. EDIT Only lances qualify as "Mounted only" but spears, great weapons on mounts are not affected as they are "Mounts" and not "Mounts only" 3) A Chariot inflict only D6 hits in total if it impacts several units EDIT except when pursuing (and possibly fleeing? -unknown) - Atrahasis. 4) Skirmisher charges – It is still possible to create a Failed charge trap using Skirmishers and terrain by ensuring that all visible skirmishers are unreachable. 5) Salamanders have Flaming attacks and EDIT - against a 5 wide 200mm infantry unit, 5 skinks will be in the front rank since models *must* be maximised and 2 Salamanders in corner contact - Atrahasis. 6) Shaggoth champions, Treeman Ancient can join units. – see Contradictions. EDIT - Treeman Ancient cannot join units as specified in the Forest Spirit rules 7) Guardian light – Units in combat do not take Fear, Terror and Panic tests but if affected by this spell will not auto-break from an outnumbering Fear causer? How (or where) rallying from breaking works is still unclear. 8) Beast Cowers on a single mounted model in a unit on foot stops the whole unit. 9) Dwarf Anvil – Magic items will work against this e.g. those that grant saves against missiles e.g. WE Glamourweave. 10) Spell targets – it is possible to have no targets and MR can only be used by specifically targeted units. Odd Stuff: 1) Cavalry turn enables a base to move *over* a base – 2nd instance of 3 dimensional movement in Fantasy. 2) Change formation – Confirms that models *can* move more than their M rate – 3 other cases of this. 3) A character in a unit cannot see the RnF models next to him. Poorly phrased: 1) Compulsory movement charges – ‘Side’ = Front, Flank or Rear Zone and Arc of Sight needed in the explanation. 2) Skirmishers – see below 3) Hydras are slowed as normal when charging? Contradictory: 1) Pump Wagons/Monsters subject to Compulsory moves cannot pivot at the end of their move. Chariots can pivot as many times during movement – pg62 . Same with Monsters – pg 59. 2) Reforming Skirmishers – 2 poor phrases in the FAQ: i) The phrase “not really” is too vague. ii) The phrase “No need to do anything” is nebulous. Rallying units *must* reform – pg 10. How this is to be reconciled with the new FAQ is unknown. 3) Monstrous characters e.g. Greater Daemons etc are characters and not Monsters?! – contradicts the Daemons rules. Although “shares some rules” clarifies to an extent that Greater Daemons cannot join units but Shaggoth champions, Treeman Ancient can! 4) Stand and shoot against a character charging out of a unit. A mistake? 5) Re-roll psychology test – Banners which allow a re-roll could affect units close to the bearer but does not affect the bearer’s unit e.g. O&G Rowdy Grot Banner ?? New rules: 1) Models that do not have LOS no longer auto miss but cannot shoot – affects Leadbelchers etc 2) Pistols pg 56 is *not* “Counts as a hand weapon” should be amended to “Counts as a *2nd hand weapon” 3) Weapons which are ‘Mounted only’ are destroyed when the mount is destroyed including magic weapons. 4) Chariots and Monsters which are destroyed by S&S (or terrain) causes a failed charge. 5) Pg 67 has been changed from “brought into base contact with the nearest visible skirmisher” to “brought into base contact with the nearest visible *and reachable* skirmisher” Clarified Non uniform base sizes in a unit, Killing Blow, Characters left in destroyed unit, Character slain in a unit with a monstrous mount. Movement of flying characters in a unit, A character in a unit declaring a Charge against a Terror or Fear causer, Impact hits on a lone character in a challenge, Breath weapon, Miscast table 5-6 and 8-9 , Steal Soul, Missiles Defined Categories: WarSeer Forums
