A great idea and one thats sorely needed. I'm all for more one day small point format events. However, timing with this is a bit of an issue. Surely runnning it on a saturday would be easier, as it would allow many gamers to either stay a night in Birmingham or travel home (and not have to worry about sunday services and times). Also, having it coincide with a major (conflict) may crimp the numbers a little? Just my thoughts. Dan Re: The Warseer Warhammer 40,000 United Kingdom Challenge Tournament

Both valid points Dan; and in the best of all worlds we would have done both. However, we had to avoid a multiplicity of shows and conventions in all the different game formats (minis - boardgames - card - rpg - online/LAN) we have at the event, and at the same time fit in with the dates available at a venue capable of fitting us all in it's doors! The conflicting show you refer to does affect our ability to draw from the southern part of the country but hopefully there will be many others able to travel to a more centrally located convention. As to the Saturday; this year certain venue restrictions meant that we had more space on the Sunday, so rather than not run a 40,000 competition we settled for the Sunday. Next year we will be free of those constraints and might even consider running either two 1-day competitions or if people would prefer, a single 2-day tournament. All thoughts, as ever, welcome. Looks like fun, but it's in the middle of my finals. One little note, the synopses of the rules for combat patrol omit 'no models with more than 2 wounds'. You could have Wraithlords and Carnafexes thumping about with that. Re: The Warseer Warhammer 40,000 United Kingdom Challenge Tournament

Thanks for the 'heads up ' Scanno. I'll mention the oversight to the Umpire and we'll change things accordingly. Kevin Re: The Warseer Warhammer 40,000 United Kingdom Challenge Tournament

Well, ticket bought, army rejigged (had an Autarch in there!) and models located from their dusty box. All I need to do now is construct and paint them, shouldn't be too hard in 2 weeks time! I'm glad to see this event, it's just the sort of thing we need to balance against the 2 day events that are so common. If it's successful, will you be branching out into other gaming systems? When I chatted to my mates about this they immediately asked if there was a WHFB event too. Oh and I like the way that the site tells you which players are attending and the way you register for it. So much more organised than GW, and its good to see a few familier names cropping up! read full thread |
