Hello,

I work on lots of different armies since I get bored and distracted very easily. I have currently got IG, CSM, Tau, Warmachine Khador, Cryx and Trolls, + Wood Elves and Ogres on the go at the moment (all at different stages). I now have enough that I am interested in at least one of them at any time, so I can keep myself going. I am going to use this blog to both keep myself motivated (I will need some help with that:D) and to showcase my minis and the new techniques I will be testing out.

I have been painting and playing for approximately 14 years (started at WD156, back when I was very little). In recent years I have been doing more painting than playing, so I am starting to explore different techniques, such as object source lighting, wet blending (I cant), and generally trying to improve my overall painting quality.

To start off with I will so some Tau. My inspiration comes from MIGHTYPanhead (http://warseer.com/forums/general-project-logs/26235-tau-a-break-from-guard.html)'s Tau. He does some lovely camo, has the great forgeworld suits which I will be getting some of, and has brilliant bases. I want to make some good bases and have something different than all the normal tau paint schemes out there.

There is some painted and some not. As well as comments please tell me which of the unpainted ones I should do next (drones, stealth suits or devilfish).

Next we have some pathfinders

I really tried to make the bases interesting on these.

Nice looking stuff so far, the lenses and OSL is looking nice. You should try NMM, the colours you have use in your OSL look very NMMish

Paint the Stealthsuits next, nice idea putting it in a flying position, it looks much more dynamic.

Keep up the good work.

Nice lighting effects on the skimmer and nice lens work on the pathfinders.

Nice OLS, although overall they are a little dark for my tastes.

ooh! Nice!

Good job on the source-lighting! it really makes the pirhana crew stand out from their vehicle, and will look even better when it's fully done.

Pathfinders are great too, the lenses stand out a lot (and also match the base colour).

My suggestion which to paint first: the stealth suits. Drones are boring to paint, and tanks take a looong time. Stealths are just really really fun.

I'd be tempted to try darkening a base, just to see what it would look like. It might make them seem a little less "dark" overall, with less contrast between the model/base.

Either way, keep it up! :)

really nice, but the illumination is far to bright for the source but nice try just dim it down abit and it'll be spot on, the lenses are great overall colour scheme i like it specail with the black random lines quite a good touch there but finish the bases :P keep up the good work!!!! looking forward to seeing what you do with them stealth suits XD

Thank you for all the nice comments. I guess it is the stealthsuits next. I will get to work on those tomorrow night.

The piranha's interior is going to be black, i like the idea of the camo just been on the outside, and the internal been all dark.

Any suggestions on how to dim it down? I tried a wash of black/chestnut ink, but should I just do a couple more coats?

MIGHTYPanhead, I might try making the bases a bit darker, give them a wash or something. I might add some static grass as well, but I am not sure about this.

Hey, lovely tau! your source lighting is really convincing!

IMHO the interior on the piranhas is good as it is: you only need some more light near the source on the control panel , and maybe on the crew's helmets.

right, time for the update i promised you yesterday (slap on wrist). I couldn't paint yesterday since I had a splitting headache. Enough excuses.

Tau Stealth Suits

I am trying to decide whether to paint them the same way as the pathfinders or to do them coming out of "stealth mode". If I do this I will use the same colours as I did on the Piranha crew OSL and create little wavy lines at the edge of the black stealth areas. What do you guys think?

here they are with the base coat of Catachan Green

Also for your viewing pleasure I have my workspace for you:
My fiancée and I share a studio in our house (she is a mosaic artist) so this is my part.

Any chance you could repost the pictures of your converted Dragon Ogre. I saw the thread you started, but the picture links are all gone and I'd love to see it.

Here are the ogres in all their glory, I have even painted them up and finished them. I am really pleased with them.

I really like how the fat older cold one body looks with the ogre plastics. Great job! I'm thinking of using the cold ones from the current lizardmen saurus cavalry along with black orc torsos/arms to make slightly smaller ones. Not sure what to do about the head though-- I'm sure I'll figure something out.

While I really like the conversion (even if I love the current GW ones), I'm not too sure on the painting, after seeing your tau they seems a bit under your usual level :o (this is, obviously, IMVHO, in my very humble opinion :D)

They're so original though, very creative use of so different plastic kits, weel done sir!

I didn't use the other cold ones because they had too much decoration on them, so it would have taken longer to clean. your idea sounds pretty good though

They were painted a while ago and I was rushing to get them finished for a tournie. I need to go back over them and do the scales and armour again, but I have enough to paint as it is.

Next are my Widowmakers. I am particularly pleased with the Kapitan model (the woman) who was a joy to paint. I also had great fun mixing up all the colours for the cloak and trim.

The black is real nice with that red man, those Widowmakers in particular are very cool. I'm gonna have to think about that sort of colouring for my widowmakers (though I'm kind of stuck with grey for everyone else)
