Ever since the last codex came out I have wanted to do a new chaos space marine army. I made up a nice colour scheme and name for my legion who are called 'Sons of Osiris'. The one thing that has put me off doing them is that their main colour is white and as it is hard to paint and not very chaotic is was kinda off putting but I do really like the scheme I came up with:

http://img241.imageshack.us/img241/5550/csmphphh9.png

So the ball is starting to roll now and I bought 5 chaos space marines off eBay and below is a rather bad pic of them. My camera battery decided to die on me so I couldn't take pics of each model just yet. They are on resin bases I bought of eBay.

http://img522.imageshack.us/img522/3844/squad01qx9.jpg

I will post better pics of these models later as they are all converted slightly so it will be nice to show them off and also I found close up pics show mold lines that I may have missed. I will also drill out the gun barrels when I find my pin vice and I may change the head and arm position on one of them.

I have been on an eBay spending spree to add to this squad so hopefully the box sets will turn up this week.

I look forward to hearing opinions on the colour scheme. I have already choose it and I know some people wont like it but it wont be used too widely as I plan on having some cult models and raptors who will have their own schemes.

Thanks for the positive replies. I will get some better pics up later today hopefully to show them up close then I will get them undercoated.

Here are the pics as promised. There are still a few little bits that need doing to the models before I undercoat them.

This guy has a boltgun hanging on a chain. The chain was the smallest I could get but I like the bulky feel to it. He is standing on steps and shooting downwards however I would have liked to have moved his head and arm up a little but I fear breaking him off his base.

http://img504.imageshack.us/img504/2082/dscf0005hv0.jpg

The following conversions just use simple bits mostly from the chaos space marine sprue.

I bought them off eBay for about 3 for 10. I have 4 40mm temple ruin bases on the way and some battle debris bases too. Do find that the actual ground on these bases is just terrible? It looks more like coral which is why I glued flock to them. I have currently undercoated one model and a test base which I intend to paint up first.

Thanks again for the positive responses.

Yep, you've definitely got the same bases as me then. I havn't botherd to glue sand over my bases yet, but hoping the ground bits wont look so bad painted.

I have 40 standard bases and 8 of the 40mm ones that are all cleaned up and sanded but none painted yet. How are you doing yours? Something to contrast the light colours of the marines armour (from the sample scheme anyway)?

crandall87
23-09-2007, 23:26
I was thinking grey ruins with desert sand. I was going to do sandstone coloured ruins but I wanted the ruins to stand out a bit more. I should start painting my test base tomorrow so hopefully will have that done in a day or two.

crandall87
24-09-2007, 22:42
Here are 3 various pics of my test base. I am quite happy with it even though all the pics are terrible. I am currently half way through painting a test model. I will post pics when he is completed however with a few boxed sets due to come tomorrow or Wenesday I fear I may get sidetracked with more modeling but I will force myself to paint him up first.

Can't wait to see them wearing your color scheme, crandall. Cool chapter (or warband?) name, too... thousand sons marines would make a great addition to your army, I think. IMHO, the armor would work best in a light shade of grey, with white accents.

I got my terminators and a terminator lord today as well as my possessed. I am only using the possessed bits for conversions as they are fantastic models but rubbish rule-wise. I have spent the last 4 hours making these guys. I have magnetised 2 of them which took up most of the time.

Here are the non magnetised termies.

http://img221.imageshack.us/img221/6996/dscf0010av4.jpg

And some close ups. This guy used a possessed arm as I ran out of power weapons.

These are the magnetised terminators. They need greenstuff work done to their sides where there are small gaps.

And a selection of arms for them.

http://img221.imageshack.us/img221/8810/dscf0009qd5.jpg

Also a quick update on my painting progress for my test mini. I hope to get him completed by the end of the week. Yes I know i'm slow but I find it hard to get motivated to paint and I am spending time on this guy. He may not look much now but he is very much WIP and I have a lot of highlighting to do on the gold and blue yet and other parts of him are still basecoated or undercoated and his horns wont look like that when he is done. He fell off his base too but i've only just glued him back onto it.

you may want to try a black ink over the trim and it should with a litlte practice black line the trim for you was well.

crandall87

This guy has a boltgun hanging on a chain. The chain was the smallest I could get but I like the bulky feel to it.

If you are looking for finer chain, my wife makes bead jewellery, google beading in the UK and sites like Jillybeads.co.uk etc have various gague chain, they sell cheaply, by the metre I think. Your CSM's are looking good! White is a brave choice, I have enough trouble with the odd helmet/apothicary in my UltraMarines, it will drive you mad trying to get a smoothe even coating!

crandall87
27-09-2007, 12:20
It is a brave choice and it is the main reason why I have put this army off for about 4 years, however I do not plan to paint many models up in it as I plan on painting the cult models in their traditional colours and I also have a good idea for my raptors scheme too.

I have tried a very watered down wash of blue ink to add a bit of shading to the white which looks quite good. I will get some better pics when the model is finished then I will start painting the rest.

crandall87
28-09-2007, 21:57
I have pretty much finished my test mini now. The picture isn't the best in the world for some reason half of the trophy spike and part of the shoulder pad trim looks white which is prob down to my flash. I have undercoated the rest of the squad and will begin work on them later tonight or sometime tomorrow.

28-09-2007, 22:15
Glad to see that you're keeping up. Maybe it's just the flash of your camera, but the picture of your test mini looks as if the blue would be kind of plain. I think a deeper, darkly shaded blue would suit your marines very well, and suggest to add some blacklining to the bronze parts, maybe via black ink.
Otherwise, I like it a lot- maybe because I feel connected to other commanders of brutal, blue-white marine legions of questionable loyality. ;) The white tuned out quite good and your metalic bronze is jwonderfully deep, rich and lovely.

Keep up the good work, can't wait to see the first finished squad!

crandall87
28-09-2007, 22:39
The blue is a lot darker on the model than in the picture. The flash on my camera is far too bright. I may blackline around the shoulder pad trim as blueink doesn't seem to contrast too well.

i have a black legion army of decent size and is mostly troops. i painted it that legion for a fast paint job but in the future i plan to convert and repaint alot of them esp with the new sprues out and EC and the orange chaos marines in the last chaos codex i both like, just havent decided.

That was bleached bone over black then a couple of thin coats of tentacle pink. A couple of the shoulder pads need another layer just to cover up the odd bits of bleached bone. The pink on the champions chest, the blastmaster guys head and the claws has had a wash of red gore and blue ink mixed as I don't have a purple ink and then they have been dry brushed tentacle pink and tentacle pink and skull white.

They are certainly a nice decoy away from the white marines.

I have the 5 terminators and 4 and a half more chaos space marines to undercoat and paint. I say 4 and a half as I am waiting to get a lascannon and backpack for one of them.

That is from the chaos space marine terminator lord.
