As the title suggests, this log will chronicle the buildup of my Pre-Heresy/ Heresy Era Iron Warriors. As it stands, I have enough pieces to do a 10 man squad, with more to be added in the future. I take my inspiration from Doghouse and Synapse, who both have very wonderful and well thought out armies/ squads. Anyway, you all want pictures, so heres a few Wip shots of the first marine, in modified Mark IV battle plate. I have added a regular sized marine and an Empire handgunner for size comparison. I think his size does the fluff justice :

Comparison pics:

Torso/ Upper legs, and Legion insignia detail:

Detail shot of his entire body, with some gs work on the legs showing:

Anyway, obviously the Greenstuffing has much to be desired, but I'm particually proud of it as it is my first real attempt. The legs in particular need some filing. Nothing compared to Freakforge and others, but that comes with practice. Anyway i would appreciate comments and criticism, or even advice on how to improve.

Currently the shoulder pad enlargements are drying, as are the arms. Then I can do the legion symbol on his pauldron, and some studs maybe.

That armour looks really nice well done! Especially with the detail like the skull etc I find GS very hard to use myself.

How are these guys going to work ruleswise?

Glad you like it! Try letting the GS harden for a little bit, say 2 or 3 minutes, and then try. It works for me.

Rulewise, I'm gonna go plain Sm codex, and eventually APocalypse style wit Ig and AD mech counts as allies. MMM baneblade :D

Very nice work! Great to see another battle-brother joining the ranks of pre-heresy modlers and players, and I'm impressed that you're actually going for true scale- a step I didn't have the balls for. ;)

Looking good s far, keep it up.

@ Ithmaril Thanks for the compliments, im glad you like him!

@ doghouse Thanks to you also, your true scaled marines are one of my main inspiration! I remember you did a few Iron Warriors yourself, yes??

Well tonight I finished the GS work. That includes the shoulder pads, the Legion Icon, various studs on his body and arms, work on his early style bolter, and the ork head he is lookin ever so intently at. (yes thats right an ork's head:))

Unfortunately, lighting problems hindered my taking pictures, so that will have to wait till tommorow, before i basecoat him!

Thanks again!

Looking forward to the new pictures. :)

Updates! with crappy pics! My camera is on the fritz, with terrible lighting problems because of the rain, but i wanted to give a small update.

The Iron Warriors Skull:

A really bad picture of all the pieces:

Good luck making out anything from those pics. Sorry:(.

I ordered the Apocalypse book and some paints last night for these guys, and I started on another marine this time in I think Mark II or Mark III armor.

Thanks again for the comments!

Looks good however maybe use abit more GS to make the knees and the thigh's seem like a better fit.

I'll have to do that then before paint, but as I have at least a week before it arrives, thats ok :)

An update on the other guy i'm working on:

http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a333/Toyship/PICT0030.jpg

and:

http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a333/Toyship/PICT0031.jpg

He is highly wip right now, with only his helmet being finished. I need to finish sculpting the rear half of his torso, and do all the work on his legs still, plus arms. His left leg, which is your right, is bionic, so thats why hes missing a foot and his thigh. That area will be bulked up with all kinds of techy goodness. His helmet, while not as good as I would like, looks alright i guess.

Anyway, I'm thinking that those marines with that style of helmet (Mark III) are seen as favored, so those that are gifted the helmets are seen as particularly honored, seeing how it is an almost exact representation of their Legion's symbol. Also, I'm thinking that as the Iron Warriors progress in rank, they will have more bionics. Sort of like the Iron Hands. So this guy will probably be the squad seargent, seeing how he has a bionic leg.

And finally, I am planning on buying more bits for a second tactical squad, bits for a heresy era dreadnought, and stuff for the captain and his terminator armored command squad.

Thanks for your time,
Toyship
