Howdy. for those Canucks here on Warseer, and even those non-Canadians who want to know more about our favourite frozen wasteland, here's the thread.

first point: Introduce yourselves, fellow Canadians! tell us where ya live, and maybe give us a question or three.

I'm 17, and I live in Calgary AB. my question for anyone in Quebec: is it true that everything there is sponsored by a beer or tobacco company? or is that rumor just that, a rumor? :chrome:

Hello,

I'm 21, I'm originally from Quebec but I've been living/studying in Ontario for the past three years, and has been serving in Her Majesty's Canadian Armed Forces for the past 4.

To answer your question, sir lunchalot, no, it's not true. In fact, IIRC, a law was passed a few years ago that outlawed sponsoring of events by tobacco companies. Beer companies are heavily involved with any sporting/musical events, but there are other sponsors out there.

Seth Macfarlane (of Family Guy) said, when he was doing the commentaries on the episode of Family Guy where Lois becomes a gaming addict in an indian casino, that he thought they'd get angry letters from native americans, but instead got them from Canadians, and the one of the other guy doing the commentary said that he knew no one more protective of their country than Canadians.

Now you know its true. ;)

I thought the bit about the filthy Canadians was the highlight of the whole show...

"What? Canada sucks!"

Yeah, I suppose you got a point, but I can see why some people would get upset.

We Irish don't need these poxy threads. We live, fight and die by our Razor-Sharp wits. The spirit of Wilde will never die while one Irish man draws breath.

Now watch this.

Hey! Canada! Yer Ma's a Hooir!

Psych!

I'm 17 and reside in Toronto, Canada.

My question to all you other Canucks: Is it true Canada hates Toronto? Why?
Sometimes I feel like Toronto is that one kid in a group who nobody likes but they let him hang around because he's got rich parents thus giving them access to video games and popsicles.

I'm not Canadian, though at work yesterday I had one of the guys who works with the cameras tell me I looked like a Canadian person. I told him he was a ***** and that I wish I could follow him home after work and beat his ass with my sneakers, but with the price of gas I told him he got lucky.

well have you ever heard the Toronto song? seriously, I don't care, it's just another city. not as great as Calgary, mind you, but that's just my personal, very biased opinion.

well, I can't couch for everyone else out here, but the things I do for fun are (in order of frequency) spend time with my girlfriend, d20 modern, D&D, 40k and so on. now if you wat to know what people out in the rural areas do... I've no idea.

as far as looking canadian, here you go: blue jeans, hiking boots, and a couple layers of plaid shirts. a toque would help.

new question: is there a seperatist movement in your province? I know there's one in quebec, and sadly there's also one here in Alberta. fortunately it's confined to the occasional angry letter to the editor in the paper, and the common opinion of the 'seperatists' is 'I like my country, but look what it did for quebec' while I agree, I would hate for a political movement to rely on the Liberals not calling a bluff. :chrome:

y'see, the reason we albertans dont' want the liberals is the fact that a) teh party reeks of corruption and general slimeballness, and b) the liberals continually screw alberta. I mean, the way they implemented the Kyoto accord, they gave the auto industry (based in, surprise, ontario) huge leeway, but nothig for the oil industry. and when one of their election funding strategies is basicly funnel oil wealth out of alberta and throw it at quebec agencies, we can't feel much sympathy for them.

that said, I'm voting green in the next election, they're the only party that has proportional representation in their platform. :chrome:

i dont suppose any of you have a picture of balled lightning (AKA, set elmo's fire) as this is purportedly what stopped my mother from emmigrated there (my dad was working in canada at the time and he witnessed a strike, found a photo and sent it to her, until that point she was going to move there ;) )

id like to see that which stopped me from being born in a foreign land. (furthest i ahve ever been from england? Wales, and i doubt that counts)

My question to all you other Canucks: Is it true Canada hates Toronto? Why?

To answer your question; yes, the majority of Canada dislikes Toronto. Why? We love to hate you ;) Its almost a provincal pass time outside of Ontario. Its mostly light hearted, because whenever one of you comes to our city and watch a hockey game all you do is complain about our home team and say how good the leafs are; I know that sounds funny, but every single person I have met who was from Toronto always hates the home team, and loves the Leafsl silly but true.

Its like a person from Montrael watching a game in Toronto with a bunch of leafs fans and saying 'the leafs suck, Montrael is going to...yadda yadda.'

You're also below hte 49th parrallel, thats as good as the states for me :P Kidding.
