Greetings, fellow Warseerers. I read a thread at 40k General with the exact same name as this one. The thread's name gave me some interesting questions, such as: How big would a Devilfish (1:1 scale) be if one was made today? And what about tanks from other races, such as Raiders, Wave Serpents or Defilers?

According to the Departmento Analyticus of the Ordo Xenos, the Devilfish has a length of 8.25 meters, a width of 6.8 meters and a height of 3.2 meters. It weighs 14 tonnes.

The Ordo always liked their breadbaskets big :P .

Jokes aside, 8.25 meters -- that's only 4 men across. Seems compact to me, but then I don't hang around tanks...

Oh wait. Tau are pretty compact too.

True, the vile Xenos known as Tau are pretty compact, but not compact enough for 12 men (or whatever the 'Fish's transport capability is) to fit into an area of (if we only count the transport bay) 24 square meters. Anyway, thank you. Where does one find information like this? At the clearly non-existant Fluff Bible?

You are likely to find information like this in Imperial Armour 3.

The source of information that shall not be named :p doesn't contain detailed information like that.

Also considering that T'au troops are pretty much similar in size to human, then 8 metres seriously aint enough for a squad of firewarriors.

It's worth noting that the Bradley IFV has a length of 6.45 m and a width of 3.2 m, to give some comparison. The Bradley has a passenger capacity of 6, with a crew of 3. The Devilfish has a crew of 1.

It has a crew of 2. Gunner and a pilot.

err... SM Rhino syndrome?

The BMP-3 carries 3 crew, 7 soldiers (it also noted 2 additional but I have no idea what that means), has a length of 6.7m (7.2 including the gun), a height of 2.4m, and a width of 3.3m.

The Devilfish will be carrying 1 crew member and 12 soldiers. It's over a meter longer, just under a meter taller, and over twice the width. Granted the jet engines are quite large, but the tracks on the BMP aren't tiny. The internal compartment seperating the crew from the soldiers would need to be moved down a bit, but I personally don't see the problem with getting that many people into the Devilfish.

Remember, they are advanced and anime-like. If Japanese business men sleep over in Toyko in little coffin beds, you can bet the Tau will find a similar way to pack 12 in a devilfish - complete with individual DVD players and surround sound (no joke. Coffin beds are cool).

you could easily fit 12 ppl in a space 24sq. meters... 2 meters high, 5 long and 3 wide... it would likely to be lower than that, but as a cargo space, thats quite big!
