Spurred by the Nids vs. Aliens thread in 40k general I was wondering what people think of the overall level of control by the Hive Mind. In the 40k universe there are races that can absorb or otherwise use other races genetic material either in the present time or as a lost ability.

What do people think of the level of control the Hive Mind could have over an organism that contains Tyranid genetic material.

Could kroot eating Tyranid bodies be controlled?
What about suspected old Tyranid Species like the Catachan Devil?
Are Genestealer infected humans/aliens under the control of the Hive Mind when it arrives at a planet or still under the Patriarchs control?
Which takes priority for infected humans, the ruling Patriarch or their Hybrid offspring?

Interesting questions.

Could kroot eating Tyranid bodies be controlled?

In a short story it is hinted that a Shaper sees that the Nids are "wrong" in some way so he pulls his kroot back from attacking and eating them. It could be that the offspring of the kroot that use nid dna may have confliction issues but more likely they would just go insane in some way or be malformed.

What about suspected old Tyranid Species like the Catachan Devil?

These seem to have broken away from the Hive Mind and are no longer able to interact with it. That said, who knows.

The Hive Mind take priority once it comes into range. The Patriarch takes priority over infected humans.

intresting question, all i can say ( and not for certain ) is that diffrent Hive Fleets may not be able to interact ( the codex has several things about fleets attacking each other), this would show that the Hive Mind isnt as strong and Independant as thought by the Imperium.

there is also the Zoats - who may/may not have been Nid constructs, if they were Nid constructs, and were fleeing the Nids, it would show that the Hive Mind link can be broken, although i wouldnt have thought this would have been an evolutionary trate.

Well in the nid codex says one of the hive fleets were a bunch of smaller independent fleets.
