*DISCLAIMER: This thread may or may not actually include me doing anything at all.

After a long hiatus, I've finally begun a new project log! I'll be doing plenty of "Stuff*" in this Log, all set within the Warhammer Fantasy world as well as that of Lord of the Rings.

Things to look forward to:
-Some Uruk Hai!
-Warhammer Dwarfs!
-A Vampire Counts Army!
-Possibly a Skaven or two*!
-Fluff Text!
-Procrastination!
-Exclamation Marks!

For the next handful of months things will likely be slow, with most likely a weekly or bi-weekly update. I'd like to finish painting as much stuff as I have so that I can prove I have the determination to warrant starting a Vampire Counts army in March. (I have always always had an obsession with all things related to Necromancy, and their new Grave Guard are just too wicked to pass up.) That will give me plenty of time to save up some cash, too. (Poor college student, don'tcha know.)

I've been fighting an epic battle with my lighting and my camera in an attempt to get pictures that don't make my painting look like crap. So I apologize in advance for the poor quality of my Stuff*.

On the other hand, perhaps my Stuff* will be so awesome that some nice rich bloke who looks at me in a rather uncomfortable way* will sponsor whatever future miniature adventures I embark upon!

All will be revealed in the future of:

Asuril Does Stuff!*

So stay tuned! Updates Are Inbound!*

* Two thousand that is; Skaven don't come in pairs.
* I'm looking at you, Wraithbored.
* No guarantees.

There was, in fact, a reason why I started this log. And it's because I've got some Stuff!*

Your Update for today is the first Uruk-Hai I've done for my Uruk Raiding force. I have a handful more, but due to the nature of my Stuff* it's best to spread it out and spoon food you folks nice and easy.*

So, like I was saying, it's an Uruk-Hai Raiding force. Now, this isn't a Legions of Middle Earth Raiding force, because I don't own the book. Apparently they can't bring berserkers. I say that's bogus! I'm making my own fluffy list that totally sucks SMurfs and I'll use it, by golly!

The force is inspired by the bunch of miscreants who chased down the Fellowship and killed Boromir.* It's mostly scouts with a few berserkers thrown in for good measure. So far I have a pretty solid track record with them.* I won't vouch for their tactical usage, but their models rock!

Anyway, enough jawing, let's see some Stuff!*

How fearsome!

How patriotic!
http://i243.photobucket.com/albums/ff29/geobancr/DSCF0421.jpg

That's it for now, stay tuned for more Stuff!*

* Just in case I run out of Stuff* and actually have to do more.
* Don't you mention Lurtz in my presence; he's as weak as a wet noodle in the tabletop.
* I got my butt kicked. Solidly.

Let's see if we can jumpstart this thread; nobody seems to care about my Uruk Hai.

Have some more Stuff!*

Dwarf Slayer:

His Back:
http://i243.photobucket.com/albums/ff29/geobancr/DSCF0439.jpg

The lighting seems to have washed out all of his precious, precious shading, especially the darker tones in his beard. I think this was one of the more fun miniatures I've painted in the past few months. Lots of details and lots of skin to blend with.

Look for more Stuff* tomorrow!

The back of the dwarf's head looks like it started melting. Is that how the model looks?

I think it's more the villain of that's how the lighting makes it look. Nice and glossy and melty.

Or maybe it's melty. The miniature is about 7 years old, I think.

Edit: The bumps on the back of his head are the texture of hair, but it could be a naff mold or something. It's a metal miniature, but like it said, it's older than time.

Happy Hallowe'en everyone. To celebrate this most spooky of days, I've painted one of the first miniatures I ever got for Warhammer Fantasy. A Skeleton champion! This is the first time I've actually painted an undead unit (not including skulls on armour, etc), and I tried to go for a dirty, aged look.

I'm not happy with his weapon at all. I've always failed pretty hardcore when it comes to axe-heads. See my slayer for further proof.
http://i243.photobucket.com/albums/ff29/geobancr/DSCF0432.jpg

For his helmet, I wanted a faded red, like it was once painted but has faded through the ages. I'm not sure if it's remotely effective. But, my painting is all just a learning experience. And boy, do I have plenty of room to learn or what.

Edit: My thoughts on this a week later is that I do not like the red at all. The faded look works, I think, but it would work better with the rest of the colors if it was a faded black. I might repaint, or I might just keep notes for the next time.

I'm really pleased with the shoulder armour and the fading on his robes (I'll see if I can get some better pictures with less intense lighting, I'm open to advice on this matter).

I think I'm going to pick up a new brush or three tomorrow. All but two of my current ones are around five years old. Including my fine-detail brush, which I managed to butcher last night.

Comments are greatly appreciated. Have a great Hallowe'en, and stay tuned for more Stuff!*

What do ya think?

I like your minis, the overall aged feeling of the skeleton and the dwarfs flesh & face in particular!

I think the metal on the dwarf looks a little bit unfinished, you can do better by the looks of your uruk-hai :).

OT: Also like your style of writing ;).

Hey there!

I really like the skintone on this Slayer. Did you use any fleshy tones at all (bronzed flesh maybe?) or is that all different shades of brown? I also painted a Slayer a year ago or so and, while being a whole different Slayer (the one (http://smg.photobucket.com/albums/v145/Lexandro/Battle%20for%20Skull%20Pass/?action=view&current=dwarfchars1besser.jpg) from the Battle from Skull pass box), I agree with you; shading all this skin is fun indeed.

I agree with debugging about the metallics on that Slayer; they look a bit unfinished, mainly the axe blade. The other metallics, especially the golden parts, look good as they are.

That skeleton champ is a fantastic miniature. He looks like an undead High Elf (especially the helmet, the halberd and the shoulderpads) with slightly corrupted gear. You also chose the colours very well. What era is he from? Early- to Mid-90ies? 4th/5th edition army book Undead? Anyway, looking forward to more goodies from the past painted by you.:)

No offence, Khorghan, but...

Asuril, never ever let this "too bright"-talking get into your ear. There is no "too bright" on the tabletop.;)

Thanks for the feedback on my Stuff* you guys!

I feel I owe an explanation for my Dwarf Slayer. The Slayer was one of the first miniatures I painted after going on a Warhammer hiatus for about 8-10 months during my move to college. That was about a year and a half ago. At the time I had a limited pallet (and believe me, bright orange was not one of them) so I had a few failed attempts trying to mix a proper color for his beard. This is why it's a bit pinkish and not very vibrant (too light, as Khor said). Also, because of the mixes, I didn't have much to work with for giving it depth. This is why his beard has a flatter color than I'd like*.

Also at the time I hadn't figured out metallics as I do them now, which is why some of it looks unfinished and lame*.

I also had a limited pallet for my skin tones, which is why it's pretty brown. I actually like it a lot this way. It basically goes Scorched Brown -> Bestial Brown -> Bestial Brown / Elf flesh.

I wanted the bone to look dirty, like it had just walked out of a moor. For Vampire Counts I don't think the sun-bleached look works as well as a creepy rotten look. The bright white bone is more fitting for Tomb Kings. On the other hand, though, I don't know how successful this was, so I'll probably hit it with another high lite or two. Thanks for the suggestion.

I'm also considering changing his robe color to an ghostly green. That ethereal look is very cool, and would be a neat uniforming color in a VC army. I'll do some more experimenting with the rest of the command.

Speaking of command; I* bought that Skeleton as a Skeleton Command blister (including musician and standard) for the Undead Army (pre-VC/TK). Right now you can buy this champion from the classic Tomb Kings store. They have him listed as a Tomb Guardian in the Heroes section, I believe.

Darn it, Wraithbored! Who's supposed to be my Sugar-Daddy now?

* This is also where I learned that red gore is the stupidest color in the world.
* As opposed to sloppy and amateur.
* That is, my Dad. I was still a dumb kid who thought Space Marines were cool.
