View Full Version : Alpha legion Project log

02-11-2007, 12:56
well, I'm starting to build up my alpha legion for apocalypse.
now I finaly can do a cultist army with a few squads of marines, as I feel the army should play.
My chaos army have been unpainted for a long time now, so it's time to get them finished.
For apocolypse I will use the chaos codex, and the guard codex, and our gaming group will alomst never play a game of regual 40k anymore so should work out fine.

The legion will be lead by captain Esteban
(will use the rules for abbadon)
He became very big, but, bigger the better right :D

Size difference.

I will try to finish this project log, so wish me luck....

02-11-2007, 13:06
The posting rules with 4 images makes me dubble post, but I will survive.
Hope you will to.
here are my cultists, I know they are a rip off design, but I like the models so much I don't care.

Have ordered parts to make 40 more of these, and some heavy weapons from bwb, should arive within 3-4 weeks. huuuuh.. a long time....

02-11-2007, 13:11
Omg the infamus tripple post.
I just need to post the test paint model.
This is one of my chosen, it's just this squad that will be robed, to make them stand out.

Comments & critics are velcome

Hi again, small update time.
We played a apocolypse game last night with 6000 points per side. It was awsome, the highlight was when we killed a baneblade in the first turn with the precision strategic asset.
have been building a cultist commander, 2 flamers and 4 regular cultists.
Anyway, picture time!

03-11-2007, 14:01
the cultists look good but the alpha legionaire seems to be completely devoid f any chaos icon and covered in aquillas, same with the guy with abbadon's wargear.

03-11-2007, 15:25
Whats the bits used for cultists ?

03-11-2007, 15:37
The marine that was posted was supposed to be my chosen, and wanted to use the dark angels models to represent them.
But when you mentioned it, I will take away the aquillas from them and my lord.
With the rest of the marines, I will use regular chaos marines. but with minimal spikes.
Alpha legion don't live in the eye of terror, so don't see them as so chaosy.

they are made of high elf archer legs, cadian torso and weapons and wood elf glade guardian heads.

whaaat?! of course theyre chaosy, thats like saying the pope isnt so christian-y just because he doesnt live in nazareth or bethlehem. ALL fluff and studio pics shows them with chaos icons abundant, especially as their main role is as spreaders of chaos faith. And even if they were less chaosy i still doubt they would wear the icons of the false emperor, unless they are in disguise as ultramarines to ruin their reputation

03-11-2007, 21:25
Hmm, they are infiltrating in the Imperium, so they would probably model their armour after Imperial Space Marines instead of running around with giant horns and daemonic shoulderpads that shoot fire ;)

Look at the Alpha Legionaire that Colrouphobic made for the Anargo Sector Project:

that piece of Artwork is awesome, will be even more inspired to do my Vraks stuff

04-11-2007, 01:58
Hi there, thanks for replies.
just for starts. I'm really drunk now, my football team just lost their last match, and went down a division. And it really sucks.
the idea was that since the chosen have infiltrate, and the only unit that can i the book, they would have more "regular" imperial armor.
but I will take away the aquillas from them. have done that with the cultistt, and uhm.. where was I.
yes, I was thinking of replacing the shoulder pads with aquillas with chaos shoulder pads, as I have many spare of them, but wil keep them as less spiky as I can.
have build and painted on my cultist banblade, but will post pictrures tomorrow.
wow, my wrighting is so bad now I will stop writing, now
To be continiued in the morning

That's the same sort of tack I'm going to (someday) take for AL Chosen. Their armor is done in mostly Ultramarine iconography (apart from the "XX TRIUMPH" banner), and the idea is that they just waltz through Imperial lines to get to the fight. After all, who's gonna stop some Ultramarines?

I love those cultists. That's the first time I've seen them done like that, and it fits, especially given the calmer nature of the AL as compared to the frothing Word Bearer-influenced zealots.

IIRC, the XX Legion doesn't care much for Chaos either way. If they can get daemonic support, great, otherwise, whatever. Remember, they rebelled to prove themselves, not out of faith.

The painted Legionnaire looks very washed. He is, but it's extremely noticeable, at least in the photos. Probably not so much IRL. So it goes.

Off-topic: FW needs to put out some conversion kits with CSM bits like the ones in the pic three posts up. If not AL-specifice, then just something different from the banding-and-arrows we see so much.

tl;dr: Looks good, want to see more. <3 Alpha Legion.

KaldCB - funny post, i wonder if you'll remember writing that when you wake up :p:D

Sound like a good idea to have a mix and match, maybe rather than the chaos shoulder pads, use the studded marine ones, they fit in with the old armour types

My alpha legion test charecter.
painted 5 years ago (or so)

04-11-2007, 12:55
I read a bit of fluff somewhere that suggested that the Alpha Legion would disguise themselves as Imperials and use Imperial Battle Cries in a kind of post-post ironic way.

Very true. Their primary battlecry is a mocking "For the Emperor!"

04-11-2007, 13:21
Its in their IA
They often disguise their armour as Imperial style armour and Prtend to be loyalist legios.
Even when marching to war in their own scheme they have battle cries such as "For The Emperor!!" as mentioned above.

I think of all the traitor legions, alpha's are by far the best!

04-11-2007, 13:37
Agreed, Alpha Legion are fairly awesome. Can't wait to see what forgeworld and dan abnett have coming up the pipeline for them.

04-11-2007, 22:39
Hello pepole!!!
The update did not come in the morning, as I stated in my last post. But at least it's comming within the day, It took me a little longer to recover then I thought.
Thanks for all the replies, that's awsome.
Okey, from the top.

The model do look like it's been washed, I have a thing for washing and thinned out paints, It's very noticeble Becuse I take my photos with flash and it's not as bad as in the photos, IRL they don't looks like they have been dipped.

I do remember "writing" something on the forum, but not what.

That's a cool looking Alpha Legionaire you got there.

Yes in Index Aristates IV there is the fluff of Alpha Legion, very cool reading, recomended.

And now, the fun part.

Have re painted and made some changes to the Legionaire I had painted.
changed the left shoulder pad, removed the aquilla from the bolter, repainted the bolter, repainted the robe.

I have even painted number 2

Comment and critics is always welcome.

04-11-2007, 22:52

I have even constructed my Baneblade and started painting on the turret to get a look on how the painting will look.
When I first got the baneblade, it was not intended to be used with cultists, as I feel it's to big to be a cultist vehicle. But now that I have it, it will be one of the few vehicles the cultist have stoled. my cultist leader will use it as his personal transport. (he feel's safer in there)

04-11-2007, 22:53

Comments and critics is velcome as always.

04-11-2007, 23:06
Not THAT'S a dozer blade.

05-11-2007, 00:35
Nice, baneblade is looking good

05-11-2007, 01:17
Nice army. I like the loyalist marines painted up in Alpha Legion colors, heck they even did that in IA5. The baneblade is nice too, especially the Ninja Commander

05-11-2007, 22:12
Hi there...
Thanks, I'm pretty happy about how the baneblade turned out.
Have done some painting to it today, but it's not worth uploading, will try to get a good way with it tomorrow.

Triggerdog, do you have the IA5 book?

05-11-2007, 22:48
You should have removed the imperial guard insignia on the heavy stubber.
Other than that nice dozer blades. :D

05-11-2007, 22:54

Psh, winged skulls are just as appropriate for traitors. I mean, it's a skull with wings XD.

05-11-2007, 23:00
Damn, those aquillas are everywere. It's almost imposible to get them all.
Now Mr aquilla, feel the wrath of my hobby knife!!!

08-11-2007, 22:54
Well it's update time again,

I feel bad, as I havent been doing as much as I had hoped for with the army, but I have allot of stuff to do lately, my kid have been sick.

Annyway, I have got to do somthing, have been painting some more on the baneblade, finished a tech priest and made 4 servitors and started on the painting for the rest of the chosen.
Now that I'm happy with the scheme I can start mass producing them.

And now to the pictures.

Comments and critics, is as always apriciated.

08-11-2007, 23:36
That blue looks far better than the test blue. The techpriest is absolutely ace, too.

The powerfist looks kinda funny, but hey, it's Chaos. Mutations are the order of the day.

08-11-2007, 23:43
Powerfists usually start at the elbow, not at the wrist.. this just looks weird..

Awesome job overall, though.

09-11-2007, 07:25
Thanks for replies,

Meticulous, this blue looks quite good in the pictures, but in real life it's just purple inc, so it would have looked a litlle weird to just keep them like that.
And a little to easy :p

Marstfu, I was never happy with the powerfist, I have shorted the arm now, and I feel it look much better.

18-11-2007, 20:50
wow, it's been a while since my last update here.
I have recived part to make my cultist
There will be 40 cultist and 6 armed with missile launcher.
will get to work on them soon.

Colonel Stagler
18-11-2007, 21:52
Thats quite the dozerblade on that Baneblade their friend :D

The Guy

Damn, those aquillas are everywere. It's almost imposible to get them all.
Now Mr aquilla, feel the wrath of my hobby knife!!!

Lol I don't know why, but that made me laugh :p
Good luck with the legion, looking awesome.

18-11-2007, 23:44
Cultists! Cultists! So many cultists!

A thought came to me: have you tried basecoating the Legionnaires before washing them? With, like, ultramarines blue or something, to get a more solid blue color.

Don't get me wrong, they look great, but they'd look even better with that extra oomph.

19-11-2007, 23:33
thanks for replies.
I don't have an update as I have very much to do latly, I have 13 ex'ams in these 3 weeks, so it's been quite busy around here. I have 2 ex'ams tomorow so may get some work on them after that. I have done some work on the cultist, have built 15 of them today. we are going to have a large apocolypse battle this saturday, so I need them finished by then.

20-11-2007, 15:50
Thirteen? Holy crap! What are you studying, you madman! I have like four! Dang. Good luck on that murder of tests you have going.

21-11-2007, 02:06
13 exams o.0
Are you doing every cource at uni or something!

Good luck with the exams :)

21-11-2007, 07:11
I thought that my 7 were a lot of....

But there is always a bigger fish.
Good luck with your load.

23-11-2007, 12:57
Hi there :)
yeah 13 exams is insane, I'm getting reeducated as I could not continue in my previus job because of injury.
So now im studing to a bachelor witch takes 3 years paid by the goverment, but they only pay 3 years. And I need the equality of last year of "high school" to get the bachelor, so im study full time at the university, and have to read at home to 9 exams to get the papers I need.

Anyway, as crasy as I am I still take time to build little toy soldiers.
Update time, I have buildt up my cultist:
4 squads with missile launcher.
2 command squads with autocannon.
2 special weapon squads with to flamers and demo charge each.

23-11-2007, 12:58

Comments and critics please.

23-11-2007, 14:32
Nice, im liking it so far

one thing: whats with the guy with SM arms and a big shell? whats his purpose?

23-11-2007, 14:47
He have robbed a earthshaker round from the baselisk crew, and uses it as a demo charge :)
im gonna work on the arm to get it more like the others.
going to work on building my baselisk now :)

23-11-2007, 15:05
Nice idea. Have you thought of drilling a small hole and making a "fuse" . like an unstable bomb? Instead of them just throwing the shell?

23-11-2007, 16:43
why when i thought i was of chaos you convert me back. But REALLY!!! good models

24-11-2007, 07:27
thanks for replies,
we are going to have a huge apocolypse battle today, so I will take some pictures and post them.

cyprus, you can never leave chaos :)

24-11-2007, 09:03
*big hug* :D

Thankyou for stealing my cultist idea. I always wanted to do an IG army like this one!
Sadly, I never had the time.

Want some painting tips?

24-11-2007, 09:19
true true just when i thought the praetorians had press ganged me

25-11-2007, 00:07
hey darkseer, I stole your idea from firebase :)
I have even stolen your painting scheme. (just need to get more off them painted)
we played a 25.000 apocolypse battle today. and I had a great time, my cultist was almost untuched and I only lost 17 cultist, and 12 of them was deepstriking specialist squads just begging to die after throwing their demo charge.
Im building on my basselisk now, with cultist crew, think it will fit right in.
