Its pretty simple, can flyers fly less than 20 inches?

Thanks!

Hi

To elaborate:

Any model that is not subject to some form of compulsory movement (fleeing, Spawns, Fanatics, stupid, etc.) may move less than the *maximum* movement rate given for it.

Flyers have two Movement rates: one airborne (usually 20") and one grounded (often a bit pathetic in case of birds and the like).

It would make it rather hard for the flyers to charge anything if they always had to move exactly the full 20" distance!

Ooops, sorry. You're 19 3/4" away from my elfs. Better luck next time :p

One thing to remember is that a flyer failing a charge still moves the full 20".

Does it? We've (my gaming group) could never figure this one out. It's pretty ambigious. :(

Its really not ambiguous at all.

If you fail a charge you make a full normal move

A normal move for a flyer is 20"

Totally correct - and I have seen this particular point asked before.

No, a normal flying move is 20 inches. The normal move for the creature is on its profile. (Yay! I'm now a rules lawyer! I passed my BAR exam for warhammer :cheese: )

Edit: However, I can see that you are more than probably entirely correct, I just don't like the feel of it. Seems very off to me, but then this is Warhammer. I was just being a git :D

Remember that the flyers don't double their (flying) move for charging. Which is a rather good thing - 40" charge ranges would be rather long!

Q. How far do flyers move if they fail a charge?

A. They move their full 20.

I dont like the feel of it either. Flyers can charge at certain times with impunity, because even if that crew flees, you still make it behind enemy lines. Just doesn't seem right to me.

But on the other hand it's much easier to draw flyers far across the table with bait units. You always know where they'll end up if they charge.

And if the charge fails narrowly, they might end up in a very bad place for counter-charges.
