View Full Version : Real men wear Pink - A Chaos log

Hi all, I've recently started getting into 40K from Fantasy (whilst waiting for the new High Elves) and have chosen Chaos for my first army. I've spent nearly two weeks painting and re-painting minis trying to decide on which legion/warband/chapter I was going to paint. I went from Red Corsairs, to Alpha Legion, then Dark Wolves ... but then I painted one model Black and pink, and I immediately knew which legion I am going to field, the sensuous Emperor's Children!

Anyways, this is a log on this growing army, so here's what I have so far:

Aspiring Champ:

Marine with bolter (still need to add the insignia to his shoulder):
http://img216.imageshack.us/img216/8594/boltmarinefrontif8.jpg

Group shot of what I have done thus far:
http://img216.imageshack.us/img216/2678/3mangroupshotje7.jpg

As it stands now, I only have 15 marines, but am currently building up lists for what more to add, but I know I want some Possessed and Termies (are termies Slaanesh fluffy? I picture Slaanesh armies being fast and slender, which is quite the opposite of Terminators)

I have a couple of questions though, and I figure I'd ask them here:

1) I eventually want to add a Daemon Prince to my force, but the two models offered aren't really Slaaneshy, so are there any good substitutes from other companies? Or should I try and use another model from the GW line? (I was thinking something like the Nightbringer as a starting idea, properly converted with tentacles and other thingies)

2) I'm new to Chaos as a whole, so What are some Slaanesh add ons to add to units? I know tentacles are pretty Slaaneshy, but what else is more uniquely Slaanesh?

3) Whats the best way to deal with pre-painted models, as if you want to re-paint them? As you've probably noticed the pink on the models looks quite thick, because they those marines used to be Red Corsairs so they're on their second layer of paint. Is there a paint remover that you recommend?

Thanks for looking! :D

Some nice solid Emperor's Children you have there. Will be watching with interest for updates and a group shot. :D

(are termies Slaanesh fluffy? I picture Slaanesh armies being fast and slender, which is quite the opposite of Terminators)

An interesting point. I'd say yes, Emperor's Children will have Terminators but they won't be so widely used. Think of them as the mace to Slaanesh's whip.

Have you considered Azazel, Prince of Damnation?

Crab-like claws, long, ensnaring prehensile tongues and becoming a hermaphrodite it would seem.

Specific Emperor's Children icons are stretched black-leather/skin across the armour, studs, chains and whips.

GW gave a good section on giving a Slaaneshi feel to your Chaos Space Marines.

I think the fur collars would look pretty fetching on them. ;) :p

Thanks for the replies, that link is really helpful, I think I'm going to try the leather effect or maybe just skin... Chaos Flayed ones anyone? ;)

Anyways, I finished my third marine, and have a complete group shot now:

These are looking amazing. i love the pink and black. Really cant wait to see more

Terminators: I see terminators as slaaneshie. try nott o make them look bulky. try to pose them alittle gracefully, not to loaded down. And i always saw slaanesh termies with lightning claws or long elegant swords.

1) Converting nightbringer is an option. Another, depending upon how much you wish to spend, is this model form FW
http://www.forgeworld.co.uk/kosecrets3.htm its 85pounds though. Pricey but of so good looking. To me its exactly how i imagine a KoS

2) Tenticles, Crab claws. Flayed skin, leather, stud's. I also see them as using elegent weapons. long curved blades liek rapiers ect over the more brutish broadsword. Whips also are very slaaneshie.
I was cosniderign doing EC. Have you thought about this. Instead of a physical icon, using a sisters repentia model witha collar and chain leading to a marine? Like some form of female sexual slave? Its very slaaneshie and i think would look great.

sister 2 or 4. Leather colalr them then have the chains tied around their wrists (removing the chainswords of cource). One could be standing next to a marine as he fires. Another could be folling as the marine advances.

3) Pre painted? No clue sorry, i suck at stripping!

Hehe, guys in pink. :D

Nightbringer is more a Nurglesque type of guy ..... For a Slaaneshi look, consider the Deceiver instead.
Azazel (5th edition WHFB Slaanesh Prince), Be'Lakor, or the old Keepers of Secrets (the small ones with the leather boots and breasts) make good Slaaneshi daemon princes.

2) I'm new to Chaos as a whole, so What are some Slaanesh add ons to add to units? I know tentacles are pretty Slaaneshy, but what else is more uniquely Slaanesh?

Black leather boots with stiletto heels, studs, ponytails, crab claws, whips, needles, scarred skin, baroque armour designs ...

Soak them four 24 hours in brake fluid and then scrub them clean with an old toothbrush (the brake fluid can be re-used).
If the models are metal, use thinner - it cleans the models in a matter of minutes, but tends to dissolve plastic parts.

I have been put off that model after seeing it for real... its nothing bad, just well... I wont say ;) Still an excellent model though

Anyways, Nightbringer/Deciever conversions a big fave for Slaanesh Princes, especially once given Pegasus wings... Im not sayign its good or bad, just saying its a favourite of Slaaneshi armies...

As for the marines themselves, they are amazingly painted, well done :D Assuming you do the entire army to that standard I will be a very envious and angry person...

Good luck

Your painting looks great so far. There's lots of great Slaaneshi ideas on this thread and really a little bit on each model makes a big difference. The GW tutorial is great for basic greenstuff use. Mix in some combat drugs, the crab-claws from the posessed sprue, and you have some really Slaaneshi marines. The real sign of Slaanesh for a long time has been the hermaphroditic single breast (the model's right). This looks good on models equipped with CC weapons.

If you are going to use Noise Marines, then all the usually Slaaneshi upgrades apply as well as speakers. Lots and lots of speakers with baroque gargoyle decorations. Slaanesh can be sensual, and it can be punk rock, metal, whatever. Mohawks, animal print designs, guitars etc all work. As do silk decorations. I don't usually think tentacles when I think Slaanesh though.

EC army composition is variable. They were a legion dedicated to perfection, and so would use anything available so long as they did it well. After the fall they are obviously debased but they still are probably prideful and haughty in whatever they deploy. Graceful and chaos just doesn't happen really, but Slaaneshi forces are less resilient than other legions, and so you have to use them more like a scalpel. A terminator squad deep striking at the right time would be an effective Slaaneshi themed unit. Otherwise, they use masses of Noise Marines to overwhelm the senses of the enemy.

Anyway, I'll be watching this thread. Keep up the good work.

Fir stripping mini's, you could use mr muscle, well its an australian cleaning agents, and it works. Just let them sit in it for over night then scrub under running water.

Termies can work for slaanesh, maybe use raipers as power weapons, and dirge casters and such to make speakers for them, plus paint it pink ;)

You could use the daemon prince models, with suitable plastic parts to make it slaaneshie

Thanks for all the compliments and suggestions!!!! Only problem is..I don't know which ones to use, now I have to decide which cool DP to use... I do like the idea of Ozzy leading them... though I think my idea for the army was to have them be more perfectionists than druggies...

I'm positively stoked about getting some Termies soon!

I'm not so good with GS, but I think whips and things should be pretty easy to work with, or at least make good enough for TT standards.

So thanks again everyone for responding, it's been a real big help!

Well, here's a small update:

One of my former Red Corsairs has decided to revoke his allegiance to old Huron, and has accepted the warm and pointy embrace of Slaanesh
http://img217.imageshack.us/img217/2110/redcorsairtoecqt2.jpg

However... something halted his armor re-painting process....

Aw, too bad 'bout da stik bommaz, but hey, stik bomb + a nail or something equally sharp or spiky lookin' = a choppa in ma book

In other news, a smallish update : I have 4 out the 5 marines for this squad done, need to finish the last 3/4th of the last one and add some claw's to their shouldas and this squad'll be done

Pics:

http://img223.imageshack.us/img223/5440/5man1eo6.jpg

and a closer one, (with the unfinished guy being shunned by the rest and forced to be a rear guard)

http://img106.imageshack.us/img106/8334/5man2ok8.jpg

The green menace was beaten back.... for now.. but something else arrived, quite out of the blue might I add, and is perhaps the greatest threat these EC have faced ......

ELVESESES!
