View Full Version : New Codex ideas and thoughts

So we keep hearing about Codex: Planetfall (previously called Codex: Dropzone)

This will have the rules for deepstriking (in detail ((whatever that means!))) and will have datasheets for drop pods, planes, and other goodies that come from the sky to invade planets.

Now if you all recall about 5+ years ago with Codex: City Fight almost immediately after GW said they had in the works Codex: Space for space combat rules e.g. weightlessness, or boarding ships. Another codex they mentioned was Codex: Swamp these rules partly came out in a WD issue (again 5+ years ago!)

The swamp rules were gorgeous and made a very large tactical change in how you play in marshes and swamps. This could then be combined with Codex: Catachan for rules to combine swamps and jungles.

Now Codex: Catachan is null-and-void for all purposes aside from reading some meager fluff. Codex: Swamp never came and neither did any of the other ideas.

Instead Codex: Cities Of Death and Codex: Apocalypse came out. Now Codex: Planet Fall (Dropzone)

What other codex has GW promised in the ways of areas or terrain (NOT ARMIES!) Also if you had a chance to make a codex for a terrain choice what would it be?

Personally Codex: Desert Rats would be amazing. It would gives rules for extreme heat, shortages in supplies, possibly rules for caves and of course a boat load of stratgems. These stratgems could be based on WWI and WWII events in Africa as tanks ruled the sands (some of the largest tank battles ever happened in Africa WWII!) these would of course receive lots of stratgems as it is too hot and too dangerous for massed infantry to be running all 'willy nilly' about.

Another codex idea would be Codex: Frozen Wastes in which it gives rules for ice, snow, whether effects, and stratgems would be like extra heating for your tanks so they don't freeze over. or better range finders as normal surveyors are rendered useless during a storm.

come one gimme your ideas! I'm sure one of you has something kicking around in the ol' noggin!

Being able to re-create boarding actions would be nice.

Being able to re-create boarding actions would be nice.
Yes it would.

Instead of a codex for each enviroment: ie Desert, Ice, Swamp, Jungle, Lava etc. Perhaps they could just be consolidated into a Codex: Death Worlds. Not all death worlds are jungle planets like Catachan. They include all kinds of planets where the enviroment is considered too extreme for normal human habitation.

Well, look at it like this; Where is there room to expand? I think we can see something like this in the following decade:

Codex Deathworld: Deathworld environments from Nuclear Ashwaste (Krieg) to Carnivorous plant worlds (Catachan).

Codex Warpzone: Daemon worlds, warp breachs, etc.

Codex Machina: A codex devoted to using nothing but vehicles? I dunno, stretching there.

...trying to think of others but nothing really holds up after that!

Codex specialists, for all those variant army lists like speed freaks etc

codex: close quarters

a codex about fighting inside of buildings / spaceships / bunker things... a little bit like the FW fortress and space hulk mixed together...

40K Historial

Every major known battle described with campain (2 to 3 games each) pts/characters

With an appendix with all special characters ever made by GW.

They could even include a ''calendar'' with who lived from what period, who can realistically encounter one another.

There have been many characters through the years (some better than others) Some could be invented for these special scenarios and never to be used in regular games. Like some really game-breaking ones.

Basically campains, but they seem to be doing some in white dwarf, well, for this month and the next at least. As long as they keep'em coming...

think Mordheim, but 40k. Or Necromunda big enough for all races.

focus on going into the Eye of Terror to recover artifacts perhaps?
Eldar outcasts, ork freebooters, human rogue traders will be given prominence

I think Codex: Deathworld could be nice. Plus alot of the work has already been done. Take a look at the terrain generators in the 3rd Edition Rulebook, as well as some of the stuff like Creature Feature, and the Catachan codex.

One of the ones from the 3rd Ed rulebook I really liked the idea of was the blizzard that gradually moved to envelop the whole table. It started at one end and steadily moved up the table. Anyone in the Blizzard counted as being in Difficult Terrain, and Night Fight. Was rather fun!

I think a general 'Codex:Dangerous Terrain' would be good it could cover all forms of random terrain from Zero G to Deserts to arctic wastes. And also have rules for creating your own
