Looks like Rogue Trader (The original 40k rulebook) will be hitting the Specialist Games website this month...

Rogue Trader? I know they're uploading two of the old games to the Vault, and I also know they were planning to upload Gorkamorka a while back, but Rogue Trader I hadn't heard... Still, I'm not about to complain! ;)

RT? why?

Dont get me wrong I started with Rt "back in the day" and loved it, any RT models/armies still bring a nostagic tear but as a game its unwieldy by todays armies.

Maybe its just a pdf for those of us to get misty eyes over and occaisionly break into a game for old times sake, I still have my copy of RT and am currently painting a whole army of RT "Space Elves" Eldar, might be a giggle I suppose?

- Andy H says one of the uploads this month is very old.

- Jervis once told me that uploading RT was a possibility.

2+2=5?

Sounds great, yet odd to me. I mean....are people going to spend time with RT if they don't upload at least some of the additional books too? (the compendia[?], vehicle manual, etc.) Maybe they'll upload some kind of advanced RT with the content from chapter approved, the yellow book, the red book and maybe with rules already updated to the Battle Manual rules....? That's all quite confusing but at least exciting too.

Compendium and Ork and Eldar army lists at least. Battle and Vehicle manuals aren't really part of the RT era as such.

And the WD 128 marine fix is really needed ... or they are running around with T3 :D.

And a 4+ Armour save... Poor old RT marines were outclassed by the Orks.... (who could take mesh or carapace armour and come out still outnumbering the beakies).

The original RT book didn't even have point values...gasp. Can modern gamers handle that?

Of course not. The modern day wargaming cretin demands impossible balance, and to be spoon fed.

Whereas us crotchety old gits are quite happy toddling along under own steam.

It's probably space hulk.

RT isn't so much an old game as the 1st edition of 40k - I don't know why they'd put up 1st ed of 40k as it would directly compete with 4th ed.

Did they even say it would be 40k? Maybe they will consolidate the Mighty Empires rules at SG, or Advanced Heroquest.

Or could it be Warhammer Quest!!!!??!? That would be kewl.

To quote it correctly, he wrote "one of which has been in the pipeline for a very long time!." I read it as if it was planed by SG to publish for some time now and not that it is a very old game. I think it is more likely that it is Space Hulk or Warhammer Quest as this is far more fitting for SG and has been wished for by the fans for quite some time.

Have fun,

Rolf.

Ooooh maybe 'pipeline' is a hint.

Interesting. I would assume that the idea was to keep the things in print for copyright reasons?

The copy that I have does... Tucked in at the end of the rules section.... Might be a later printing though. The required GM for a 500 point game might me a little bit more troubling IMHO.

I heard that Dark Future was going to made available soonish, then I heard about (and saw the thread in this very forum) for the event in Bristol so I'd imagine it's that.

From what I've heard, GW have lost the master files for WHQ, so can't convert it to pdf without having to re-do the rulebooks from scratch (which is what happened to the Blood Bowl master file as well, which was redone for LRB5).

That's not to say they might not just upload one of the pdf copies that'sfloating around the net somewhere. ;)

It's not as if all the RT rulebooks haven't been torrented in .PDF for several years anyway. You'd just have to be a naughty person to download them. I have most of the rules in hardback anyway so I'm ok. *smug*

Dark future, when combined with all the extras (basicly, a whole load of rules published in WD), was a great game. What didnt help was the change in scale - so they had to do 20mm minitures for people on foot... I have fond memories of sticking autocannons on to matchbox cars, though!

Eh? The Mighty Empires rules which were uploaded a couple of months ago were just scans of someone's rulebook, complete with jotted notes in the margin of one page... ;)

Perhaps they're trying to look a little more professional this time round? ;)

Turns out the OOP game system is 'Battle for Armageddon'... the one game that nobody mentioned! :D

Perhaps because this wunderful Christmas gift was already downloadable on the Third Battle for Armageddon website? :eyebrows:

That has been a big chunk of work for Specialist Games. Even the ZIP-archives are exactly the same size.

Have fun,

Rolf.

Shame. IIRC, all these older games have been on the spanish GW site for a while too (el doomo de los Eldaros, El heresejo di Horjus and El Batillo de Armageddone. Sorry, my spanish is a bit rusty.:p ).

That's pretty sad really.

"Look what we're giving you this month - something you've probably already downloaded if you've been with GW more than 5 minutes or can be bothered to look beyond the news pages."

Don't lose hope just yet.

I am sure GW are going to upload at least one other thing before Christmas... ;)
