I'm making this post in order to know if any of you ever donated money to support anybody else's army. If you did it, how much you donated in cash or models?

I do a lot of internet trading and lot buying on Ebay, so I sometimes end up with some random odds and ends. I sometimes donate those to my friends' armies, especially if they are starting a new one. I guess the largest donation I've ever made was an old style carnifex, two old style lictors, and a bunch of old style gaunts. A friend kept saying that he wanted to start a tyranid army, so I gave him those to get him moving.

Later I mentioned that I was thinking of starting a Sisters of Battle army, and a different friend gave me a box of the basic Sisters and a box of Seraphims. Years later my SoB army still consists of only those two boxes.

I donated an 1850pt army to my cousin, have donated various bits and bobs to the masses, and mask donations as birthday gifts that everyone knows I shouldn't be giving.

I've never really donated things, but I once gave a friend of mine a Christmas gift of a Catachan Veteran Sargeant. I took time to recut and Green Stuff the guy so he looks like he's cleaning his sword after having cut off an ork's head...which is mounted on the base in such a way that the guardsman has his foot propped up on it.

Then There's the FW stuff I got for my friend last Chirstmas....the FW Command Squad and an inquisitor Lok.

I've donated and traded with friends. Back in 2nd i swapped all my nidz for more marines. In 3rd i gave a friend my spare ork stuff (ork player) when i was trying to get rid of miscellaneous junk that i didn't actually play. I don't just go around shouting 'merry xmas' and giving out free stuff at random, though. =)

well....

a friend of mine got in touch with an old buddy of his and we got about 2k of guard and 1.5k of nurgle stuff... that was a big donation. i donated a bunch of my time to help paint said models and now they look great and we have like 8 armies between the two of us.

the same friend has helped me out so much its a joke. he's donated an old armorcast superheavy (which i converted into a nightwing) a few older MK marines for my veteran squad, an old chaplain, and a bunch more.

life is so much easier when we help eachother out :)

I let my friend borrow a paintbrush (which, due to losing contact, I never got back) and gave him some flock. Aren't I an altruistic git?

I gave someone a bunch of lasguns for his army (some sort of cultists army).

Someone, when I said I bought a techmarine for my army, said "I'll have it, since I'm actually making a space marines army." Serious, not sarcy.

I've donated to friends and acquintances:

5 Cadian rough riders converted to ride Cold Ones

3 Leman Russ Battle Tanks

1 Chimera

10 Steel Legion Gaurdsmen

2 Aspiring Champions

1 Firewarrior with Railgun

1 Battleforce force of Tyranids

1 Converted Howling Griffon Librarian

and a bunch of stuff I've forgotten. I usually get large amounts of bits from ebay, mod some stuff up and paint for practice, and then generally give away stuff I can't use. This has become more prolific since I decided to focus solely on my Orks, Necrons, and Eldar forces.

I "donate" tank models to my brother whenever I make huge stuff-ups in the constrution process.

He plays Orks, so he wins doubly that way.

Our group raids each others bitz boxes for goodies all the time. I gave my nepahew some old metal IG infantry and a couple Leman Russ tanks. He's got a full army now and I'm helping him paint it. I'm gonna have a Baneblade for him for X-mas. :D

One time I played in a mega battle and won a box of Dire Avengers and a Support Weapon platform. I had no use for them at the time, so I gave them to a guy who had just started an Eldar army. All he had was a battleforce, so that gave him some nice additions.

I've also given my girlfriend my whole Tau army.

I once bought a friend an ork trukk with ten boyz. His army was lacking, and he needed more money to make it more effective (the outdated ork codex didn't make it any easier).

I also bought a friend a tau codex.

I could use that money now, now that I live on my own.

I gave a buddy my 3500 point Dark Angel army when I went off to law school. Didn't think I was gonna be playing anymore. Silly bastard went and painted them all black so he could be Black Templars. Now that BT actually have a codex, he complains because he can't use devastator squads.

My Vostroyan force is a vast collection of models received via trades and as gifts (much thanks to Warseer!). It contains models sent to me from at least 6 states and countries which include: England, the Netherlands, Germany, Denmark, Australia and Canada.

When I first came into the hobby, I got quite a few things from the friend who introduced me. Over the years, when I help introduce others, I try to help them out as well.

I bought my friend a box of Chaos Marines, Khorne Berzerkers, a Defiler, and Kharn the Betrayer for his birthday when I thought he'd get into 40k. 2 years later, the Defiler, Kharn, and 2 'Zerkers are all that's constructed and painted.

I have given my godson's brothers an 2k orc/gobbo army so he would have an opponent. gave a bunck of necrons to one of the kids at my church so he could use them to pummel me. paid for the scenery for the church wargames group (supplies for homemade stuff, COD, and armorcast) to the tune of about $500. Regularly give bits to the kids.

Have 2 loaner armies for new kids to borrow.

still looking for a cheap wind host boxset for the eldar loaner - that will bring it upto about 5K and let me split it into 2 loaner armies.

12-11-2007, 05:45
I've donated a total of 60 terminators to the armies of various people along with roughly 80 power armored marines, 2 land raiders, 1500pts of Tau, 2000pts of Eldar, 2000pts of Dark Angels, and two trashbags full of assorted bitz. I'm not counting character models that I've converted up for people because those number in the dozens now.

Yeah...I get bored with armies quickly and I tend to just give them away after a few games...all my armies except my Inquisitorial riff-raff and my marines have gotten the chopping block within 3 weeks of their purchase.

I gave someone at my old club a bunch of Fantasy High Elves that I'd never done anything with other than paint (to a nice standard, to be fair). Whenever I trade, I also send out extra bits or models or whatever as I feel stupid trying to trade "Marine Head #1" or "Left Rending Claw" when I can just give them away in hopes that they'll come to good use. Lots of folks have hooked me up, so I like the idea of paying it forward.

No, it's been dormant for a while. The lads have been getting on fine with the model, but it's all been drybrushing the highlights, which I must say look great, but hardly show up on photos, so I haven't updated.

besides the endless exchange of bitz...

twice a year, our club has a charity tournament, in which the younger players with incomplete armies, pick a "hitter". he older guys that they pick go into a tournament and the rest of the club pitches in $5 and bets on who's going to win. the kid who's hitter won gets the $ and if your bet wins the thing, you get 1/2 off the next club tournament entry fee.

we've done it several times and it really helps the kids who are very enthusiastic but are on a small or sometimes no allowance and have to wait for birthdays and christmas...

I like to give minatures to a friend of mine - gave him an ancient metal Cadian I had lying around when he told me he was short of an IG sargent, and last year I gave him a couple of marine veterans for his birthday. It was a suprise present, I based them and painted them to 'display standard' (well as close as I get to it, anyway) to fit with his Blood Angels army. There was a little self-interest involved - I like the look of those vets, and really wanted a chance to paint them, but they'd be no use for my armies.

He's donated me bits and pieces when I need them, most recently some marine captain and sargent heads to help me give my Chaos Terminators the look I was after.

... does sending someone something in trade and never getting your items in return constitute "donating to someone else's army?" If so... chalk me up for that, as well.

I scavenged about 5 berzerkers, a chaos termie arm, and a load of space marine and WFB chaos bits when i was starting CSM, and a mate gave me 20 guardsman for my birthday that he didn't need. However, I've only donated a few bits a friend needed for a conversion.

I gave a new kid starting out 20 terminators. They were the plastic ones with the 360 swivel waist. I was happy to get rid of them actually though probably not as excited as the kid recieving them. I have given away squads of marines, codexes etc to newbies trying to start out. It is a very expensive hobby so I help out when I can.

I have always passed around spare bits... including whole models. I have also been given loads of things in the past including whole regiments and squads, in both cases the guys where changing army and I had supplied them with parts for conversions etc.

I have always said what goes around comes around. if I have spare stuff that Im not going to use someone else might as well make a cool model out of it!!

Back in mid 3rd ed, a mate wanted to try chaos, but wasn't too keen on some of the models (raptors, mainly). I converted up some out of berzerkers, and used a pile of bits wings from eldar BFG ships (they were 'escorts' of some kind). I didn't even charge him for them. He loved my conversions, and promptly attempted to thrash me with them.

I taught him some tactics that day - Launching the squad (10) of raptors at my (in cover) Dark Reapers. His charge fell short by three inches (and the reapers obliterated them in the following turn with a cry of 'pull!'). On his way home from the game, he fell asleep on the train and lost his army (around $600 AUD at the time).
