View Full Version : Chaos Techmarine Army

Hi all,

I have been waiting for years for GW to bring out a decent Thousand Sons list for 40k, which they have finally done with this edition of the Chaos Codex. However, everyone else knows that Thousand Sons are great too, so Thousand Sons are as common as muck at the moment. I really wanted to do something different. I am also not a big fan of the Chaos miniatures, particularly the Thousand Sons and Obliterators, both of which I really wanted to include in my army.

After reading the fluff in the Codex about the Obliterator cult, it got me thinking about techmarines in the traitor legions. I came up with the idea of building an army of techmarines who had switched allegience to chaos, Tzeentch in particular. The majority of the army would be made up of combat servitors.

Here is a picture of my first test miniature :-

The gun is made from the Tau Crisis Suit flamer, with a Space Marine Bolter scope added, and the belt feed from a Chaos Heavy Bolter.

I was going for a camo scheme on the overalls, but the more and more I think about it, the less sense it makes really, so I might go with a simple black colour scheme.

I will be adding Techmarines to the squads, a Vindicator, my Obliterators will be converted from Techmarines with ServoHarnesses and lots of heavy weapons, and my Deamon prince will be mounted on a flying platform, a bit like the Necron Destroyer Lord.

Sounds like a great concept. I'll be following this one.

Great stuff. I have a very techy Marine army, so will be really interested to see what cool conversions you come up with.

Wait, it's an "army of Techmarines"? You should rather call it "corrupted Techpriest Guard" or something like that.

If you're going for an army led by an ex-Techmarine or something, I suggest making him a fallen techmagus. A lot more possibilities for conversions, fluff, etc.

IMO you should have the servitors more chaosy.

I think I will be adding mutated arms to give it a more Choasy feel.

I have assembled a squad of eight now, although as I am removing the backpacks from the Servitors which previously had heavy weapons, so I need to think about something to replace the lump on which the backpack sat. I am trading like crazy to get all the bits I need. I will attempt to get my first miniature completely painted.

Thanks for the encouragement so far!!

How about Cadian flamer backpacks painted and converted up to look like vats of chaos goodness?

I have painted my first servitor completely.

I have gone for quite an organic base, which should contrast quite nicely with the mech feel of the miniature. You can see a bit more detail on the gun too from these pics. As you can see, my photography skills need a bit of work. I have put a tattoo on his shoulder of his squad number.

My OOP techmarine has arrived from eBay, so he will shortly be introduced to Nitromors, and then cleaned up and repainted.

I have decided to make my techmarines renegades from the Iron Hands chapter, as the fluff goes completely with my concept. They will be followers of Tzeentch obviously.

Will you use ironhands and iron warriors minis too?

Your first mini looks great but imho I think kit could use some colour. Lights, power cables and the like could be jazzed up a tad. Otherwise the whole thing is a great idea and I can't wait to see more.

I plan on going to town on the Obliterators, the Sorcerers (who will be Iron Hands techmarines or Iron Fathers). I plan on putting in bionics etc.

Very cool. when are you posting more? When it comes to the Thousand sons marines I know people have done 'mini' oblitorators that have only just started to change. Thats if the new rules have slow and purposeful and that hard to kill rule. Can't wait to see more.

ah, this is what you wanted the bits for:)

looks cool

Indeed - I must be mad! It will look impressive when done though.

I have purchased two OOP Techmarines to act as aspiring champions for the two Servitor squads. They are currently having a bath in Nitromors, and I will repaint them as Iron Fathers.

I have also found a vanquisher turret without the battlecannon (from Forgeworld), so I think I will use this for a predator turret.

More pics soon.

You should use them as the Dark Mechanicus, the ones who sided with horus during the heresy. Make them the ones that worked with the Thousand sons perhaps?

Some more WIP shots of some Servitors and a Vindicator I recently added.

Very nice idea and very well executed. Though I hope you're planning on removing that imperial eagle ;)

To be honest, I'm probably not! The background to this army is that these are a cadre of Iron Fathers from the Iron Hands chapter who have rebelled and are now leading a force around the galaxy searching for ancient artifacts and arcane technolgies. They have thrown their lot in with Tzeentch. Their ranks have swelled with Obliterators.

Been doing some work on my Obliterators

Basically, the weapon has an extended barrel compared to the normal servitors, and the powerfist is made from a spare servitor claw.

These obliterators are Iron Hands traitors who have been inducted into the Obliterator cult. When painted, they will still have the look and markings of the Iron Hands. I intend adding a Servo arm onto the backpack and a targetting device just above the head.

Work still ongoing....

I think you need to tech it up a bit TBH, perhaps have the servoharness folded up behind him with different weapon loadouts.

I have been working on this project recently, but have hit problems due to not being able to obtain the necessary spare parts required since GW cancelled the sale of bits. I have tried to obtain alternatives, but they look rather poor in comparison.

I have now decided to abandon the project. I will be embarking on a new one however. Watch this space!!!
