View Full Version : Ravagers of Orphan VII: Chaos in All its Forms

Finally have some pics of my Chaos marines. Don't have many; I've spent most of my time on the 13th Co. in my other log. But I pick up a Chaos marine now and then if I need a break.

The idea for the main scheme was something simple and striking. If I needed to, I wanted to do a unit a night without much stress. So, we have a heavy drybrush of boltgun metal, followed with the main armor plates in astronomican grey. The heads are washed red, and metal receives sparing highlights of mithril silver. And that's it! Barring anything like skulls or flesh, I'm done. I think it achieves the effect.

It's hard to tell 'cause he's unpainted, but the guy on the far left has a flap of skin on his head. Just hanging there.

Chaos space marines, lol.

Also have a couple of Nurgly champions. One's mine, the other's is a friend's that I wanted to try painting.

Both started from the same base; dark brown, light brown, rotting flesh, all drybrushed, after metals.

Metal guy, on the right, got sloppy rotting flesh highlights with a big brush instead of drybrush. After that, he was washed with watered down dark angels green a couple of times. He looks good from far-away, which is the most important thing, right?

Plastic guy, on the left, got the aformentioned drybrush run, then I had fun with my red ink. I slapped it on wherever I think mutations would cause bleeding: swelling up against metal, open sores, what-have you.

I did too good a job, the next morning me made my gorge rise a little. Yay Nurgle!

This army will be based off the army box, which I received for my birthday. The defiler will be sacced to make a Brass Scorpion, or some other big nasty war machine, someday.

I have plans for an Iron Warrior / Hell's Angels (think, well, Hell's Angels in power armor) list that utilizes the Dark Angels list. They will be led by 'Sammael,' in the guise of Doomrider (NA NA NA NA). He is in the coversion process as we speak, to match the image below.

It looks good so far.

More work has been done, of course, but that gives an idea of where I'm going with him.

Fluffwise, the grey Chaos marines are simply a band of looters, rapists, and thugs. Physically powerful, but caring less and less about anyone but themselves. They will be flat marine squads; no heavy/special weapons, no Marks, nothing. Their champions get gubbins, but only because they were dispatched to keep the Gravemongers in line.

Other units will include a Doghouse-style unit of Plague Marines, Berserkers whose limbs became weapons as they slew their lord, and a squad of Alpha Legion Chosen, who wear the colors of the Ultramarines but hold high the banner of the XX Legion.

The HQ will be a daemon prince of Slaanesh, either with warptime or lash (to represent his uncanny skill at giving orders), depending on how I feel. The model is partially done but without a picture; the daemon had a Grey Knight captured, scooped out his brain, and possessed the body, and so the model is a converted GK, but with a Fantasy Chaos warrior raised sword/cloak/shield. I plan to have the Chaos terminator lord rock spikes bursting from a dreadnought base, and the prince striding forward regally. I hope I can pull the bloody thing off; sawing off the storm bolter arm was enough of a bitch XD.

C&C, as always, is appreciated.

Thanks, I just decided 'hey, I want a Nurgly champion' and dug through my bits. Possessed arm (powerfist/power weapon), Nid devourer (bolter/plasma pistol/whatever) and Spawn tendril.

I like it, 'cause really they can represent whatever I want without hassle.

Lol. Keepin' it nice and simple. I like that!

Have to agree the Plastic nurgle champion looks a lot better than the metal one, very nice use of bits.

Looks good.

The grey/red guys look really effective too, show us more.

Blessed doomrider, still have him my EC army, silly biker guy

Man i loved the doomrider! It was so stupid a concept that it was actually good.

That's all I have assembled, actually! XD.

If I get next month's ToP stuff done early, though, I'm gonna give myself a treat and see how many I can get done.

I need to get off my ass and finish Doomrider. Poor guy's sitting in a tiny gladware with his bike, wondering if I ever truly loved him...

That nurlge dude looks gross. Which I guess is a good thing since we're talking about nurgle :D

The normal paint scheme to looks good, although I don't like the guy with the big painted red head. It looks weird IMO, but the other guy with the normal helmet looks great.

Yeah, for the horned guy I tried putting down some red gore beforehand. I don't like it much either XD.

Fresh WIP pics. One of Doomrider and the other of my daemon prince.

Doomrider's been extensively repositioned, with re-sculpted neck and hair for the turned head. His bike will be set on a flying base and have fire coming out of the exhaust, among other gubbins. His arms will be based off plastic chaos marine arms with the fore- and pinky fingers re-sculpted so he's throwing the horns. Don't know where his other foot is; I'll find it sometime.

The prince began as a stock grey knight body, bolter arm removed, and a fantasy warrior cloak/raised sword/shield. The fantasy bits remain, but most of the GK got scrapped in favor of more evocative plastic parts, with only the torso remaining metal. The metal belt will be removed, and I'll do something with that empty spot. The rocks are going to be positioned on a dreadnought base (for DP's normal footprint) with a banner or two (DP's normal height). This way, I figure we won't suffer too many complaints for being able to more easily use cover (which he can't due to the banners).

Got some work on the DP done.

His right leg looked atrocious after filling in the blank, so I placed the star there to hide it. That 'cord' turned out not very cord-like at all, so it's turned into a string of intestine. With his head like that, there's a lot more motion in the model than it had before. It's hard to tell right now, it'll be clear once the sword arm/cloak's been attached.

chaos biker gang, can't wait to see that XD
