View Full Version : Ninners' Log of Sci-Fi (ness) (Pic heavy)

27-11-2007, 14:39
So, after putting it off for months I have decided to start my own painting log. This log will contain all of my 40k stuff, as I have gone off fantasy almost entirely. Running up to Christmas they're might not be many updates, but after that there will probably be a lot more!

I want my log to be a bit different to most of the logs out there (hey, I'm different to most people out there as well!). I'm going to get you folks to decide what I paint / convert / buy for my armies. As long as it is nothing like "apocalypse army of snotlings" or "paint that Great Unclean One pink".

So, onto the pics

Me in all my nurgle glory:

My workspace:

My white dwarf collection:

My school league best army trophy (yay!):

27-11-2007, 15:08
My school league army (people asked me if the scouts got cover saves from their bases!):

My other marines:

My tau:

And finally my WIP death guard:

Almost everything is WIP. If anyone wants any close ups just say.

27-11-2007, 17:15
i have to say you can model and paint pretty awsomely i might help u out

27-11-2007, 17:23
Well done on winning Best Army with the space marines Ninners! Death Guard are looking awesome, looking forward to seeing this progress.:)

27-11-2007, 17:56
thanks, but I don't understand your comment...

thanks, it is always good when people say that! :D

I forgot to ask, what do people think I should convert or paint next?
1) Tau
2) Marines
3) Death Guard

27-11-2007, 18:15
Death Guards! Easy:P

27-11-2007, 18:56
You sure love blue don't ya? Go with Death Guard.

29-11-2007, 20:42
OK, first update of my log (well, kind of an update)

I have done a few test models for my Death Guard. I really can't decide what scheme to use, so if I could have some views on them it would be really helpful. Or, if you have a scheme of your own, please post that. Only the top half of the models are done. Plus they're rough and no details, trims or metallics have been done. Also, I might weather them. Basically, they are rough, not what the army will look like. Anways:

So, which do you think is best? Or if you have your own post that instead/as well.

Thanks for all the replies so far, it's great motivation.

29-11-2007, 20:45
out of all three my choice is the right hand model

01-12-2007, 15:26
the one on the left is the best, go for that one ^^

01-12-2007, 15:32
Go with the one on the right - the slight orange tinge will make them original when compared to other pale-green Plague Marines.

01-12-2007, 17:19
I think the middle model is nice. It gives an accent of "plague" and "death"

Greetings ninners, first let me say Congratulations on that Trophy

the Set up of your painting workspace looks great and those are some fine looking Minis!, personally i would choose the second Marine, it gives off a nice dirty/worn look which Obviously is awesome for death guard, i also Noticed some nifty GS work there, very nice indeed

Keep up the good work mate!

Firstly, sorry for the lack of updates. Coursework caught up with me and my birthday was a couple of days ago (by the way, Halo 3 on Xbox 360 = best game ever). Secondly, thanks for the kind comments and advice on schemes, I went for the one in the middle.

I also got for my birthday the new Chaos Lord kit, the sprues are great and I made a rough mock up of a possible Nurgle Lord. Please note that there are still mould lines, I would add more mutations, the weapons and head would be different and the snail bit would be more detailed.

And for my proper update, my first 3 Death Guard finished (minus bases)

21-12-2007, 11:03

Finally, I got a display cabinet which I have put a lot of my models into. Sorry for the bad pictures, I struggled to get and decent photos due to the proportions of the cabinet (tall and thin)

Comments and criticism are welcomed.

Thanks for looking.

21-12-2007, 17:52
Hey, where did you get the cabinet? Does it have a glass door you can close on it?

I ended up getting a glass cabinet from Ikea (about $80) which is nice because it's all glass, but the downer is that it's only three shelves (well, four because the base I guess counts as a shelf) which wastes a lot of vertical space....

21-12-2007, 18:05
Yep, mine is from Ikea as well (my parents are obsessed with the place, but I suppose it is pretty good). Mine was about 50 pounds (I'm not sure how much that is in $). It does have a glass door, but I opened it as I could not take pictures with it shut due to the bad reflections. It comes with 9 shelves, but you can use the base as well and the shelves are adjustable.

Any opinions on the death guard and lord idea?

 How many goddamn White Dwarfs do you have?! And very nice collection of minis. How long have you been playing?

He he, :p. I got given a lot of them from a couple of mates who quit the hobby. I'm not sure how many I have in totoal but I think it is around 150. Personally, I have been playing for 7 years.

Small update but no pictures I am afraid. I have started sculpting the lords lower body and I think he is coming along nicely. Pictures tommorow hopefully.

28-12-2007, 11:52
i like the death guard and the snail terminator lord, it should look awesome

06-01-2008, 13:42
Hi everyone, hope you had a good Christmas and New Year, I definately did! Sorry for the lack of updates, I have been away for New Year. However, I still have an update!

Firstly, I got some new kits over New Year. 2 Chaos Space Marine sets for more Nurgle marines and a Tyranid Warriors set. So soon you will see the start of my Nid army!

Also, I started work on the Lord. I gave him Typhus' head which I found in my Bits Box, I don't know where I got it from though! I think he has turned out OK so far, but as some people at my local GW (Cambridge) pointed out the rat tail at the front is a bit weird.

06-01-2008, 13:46
I also got a Linebreaker Squadron for Christmas (yay!). I have started them although they are still very much WIP. 2 of them aren't stuck together yet so I can paint the interior (I forgot not to stick the first one together). I like the way these have turned out so far, but I would like some comments and criticisms.

Finally, I have made a mail order at my GW for some stuff, including death guard shoulder pads and these two awesome models:

Comments and criticisms welcomed and wanted.

Thanks for looking.

06-01-2008, 13:57
I love the familiar on the demolisher cannon :D

I think I have to agree about the rat tail, I think it detracts a bit from the big claws. Great work though, I'm envious of your GS skills.
Oh, and yay for the Hive Mind!

06-01-2008, 18:42
Thanks for the kind words. I don't know where the familiar is from but I thought "hey, thats kinda cool, I'll put him on the Demolisher Cannon!" :D

I have done some bases for the first three Death Guard. I will update with pictures as soon as I get a chance to take some with decent light.

Also, I cannot decide on a colour scheme for my Nids. I was thinking either Kraken (bone flesh, red carapace), Leviathan (white flesh, purple carapace) or red flesh, black carapace. Anybody with any opinions or colour scheme ideas would be very helpful.

Finally, I was looking at magnets for my larger Tyranid beasts and was wondering if anyone has used shop4tools.co.uk or another UK magnet selling site?

Thanks for looking and please reply!

Really like that palanquin you found... bookmarked for future use!

I personally use ebay for magnets, much like almost every other thing to do with modelling. Here's the store I use - http://stores.ebay.co.uk/3711s-Magnets-and-stuff-shop

07-01-2008, 15:57
Any chance of a look at some of your tau and the models which one you best apinted in the school league. Also awesome work on the linebreaker quad i am looking forward to seeing them painted. I am dreading painting my vehicles.

07-01-2008, 17:57
thanks for the magnet shop, it looks really good

thanks, I will get some pics of the Tau and School League Army ASAP

So, some pictures of my first 3 finished Death Guard (:D)

Also, mym mum picked up the stuff I ordered today. However, some of it wasn't what I expected (I ordered the wrong plague champion and the palanquin had a different lord on it). Oh well.

07-01-2008, 17:58
palanquin pics continued

Any opinions on the bases or the Lord on the palanquin, I think I might change him. He is holding a shuriken catapult :wtf:!

Thanks for looking.

That Lord looks AWESOME! You should make him pointing forward with a Manreaper in one hand. As for the base, make some emerging(sp?) little Nurgle guys.:D

17-01-2008, 20:24
hey those plague marines and your other nurglely stuff are looking good. if i wanna get the best painted army next year i will have to get on with my conversions and painting lol. also ingnore my first comment it was really dumb lol. cant wait to see your next peice! hope its the nids :chrome:

23-01-2008, 19:11
i like the snail lord but the rat tail bit looks really strange.
as for the line breakers, did you make nthat familiar yourself? If so you rock, if not then you have a damn good bitz box.

23-01-2008, 19:44
I do love Nurgle, I find he's one of the better Chaos Gods for conversion ideas! Had a soft spot for the old chap doing my pimply adolescence haha!

Seriously tho, great work on the Death Guard so far. Have you considered a whip-like barbed tail or something for the Chao Lord? Apologies if I'm gibbering, just occurs to me that would look pretty cool!

And the Linebreaker squadron... If I saw that on the field I would leg it, don't care if Yarrick himself was goading me on! Some great greenstuff work!

29-01-2008, 07:53
are you going to do any conversion work on the Palanquin? if you do it should look good but you must give it a sycthe of some description as Nurgle likes sycthes!

12-02-2008, 10:35
@Kasrkin 666
Thanks! Yea I am planning on putting some nurglings on the base

No, I found the familiar in my bits box. Yea I ordered a scythe as part of the Mail Order so I will probably use it.

Thanks for the kind words. Yea Nurgle has always been my favourite Chaos God. The tail idea might be good, maybe I will do another Lord...

So finally, an update! Coursework flooded me recently and my painting room was unusuable. I have started on another army! Some nids that I got at Christmas. The warrior has no arms as I am planning on buying some magents (thanks again for the shop Fold) to make the arms interchangeable. It will be hard work but I think it should be worth it. Onto the pics!

The Warrior:

The Rippers:

12-02-2008, 10:36
pictures continued,

Ripper Close Up (shows my bad painting ):

And the bases for the rippers and other two warriors:

Comments and critiscisms are wanted! Thanks for looking.

13-02-2008, 15:21
the warrior looks awesome and the rippers are great when you consider the size of them. the bases rock but you should paint more nurgle stuff.

14-02-2008, 08:59
your nids are awsome. where do you get your basing its quite cool looks like somthing you would see out the white dwarf (the basing and the painting :D) also the detail on the rippers is quite outstnding aswell they are so small !

14-02-2008, 09:44
Your Lord is awesome what but you might not wanna go with the combi melta and chainfist i would keep the combi melta and take a manreaper if its possible/legal if not manreaper or combi melta and lightning claw/power fist or weapon im just not a fan of the chainfist your get in that lord box either way great painting and cant wait to see that lord finished and painted get idea with the tail mutation thing i dont know if its to slaneeshy might wanna GS some you know plaguey stuff on the tail make it real nurgle like.

14-02-2008, 16:23
i really like the look of the lord. Wish i could just find desirable bits in my box :P

Nids and death guard? might we see some cross over? trophies/dead things on bases/themed objectives?

Keep it up!

16-02-2008, 09:55
earlier on you said that you would do some tau are we going to see them ? if so what are you going to do a commander would be cool :)
