There was a recent White Dwarf that gave reference to a "torrent of fire", but never actually said what it was. Does anyone know what this means? Thanks for any input.

Basically if you inflict as many, or more wounds as there are models in a unit, you can designate a model make a save vs a partciular shot

keeps poeple from only rolling saves on their troopps and not the IC in the unit

Incorrect, in as much as you nominate the model that has to make the save, but the other player decides what to save against. Anyway, ToF has a handy glossary entry.

It's the no.1 rule most people don't know or overlook.

It's 'overlooked'/missed because it's not an actual rule itself. It's part of the shooting rules, under the section on taking saves. Easily missed when it's only one line in a bigger listing of rules, and not even given it's own name, just something that can happen.

Yup, one of the most important rules in the shooting rules (since it helps solve the problem of specialist models 'hidden' in units) and it isn't even given its own header!

Nid players love that rule. Often it's the only way to pick out a hidden powerfist in a unit. Of course it only applies to the shooting from just one unit at a time. You can't combine shooting from multiple units to get Torrent of Fire.

Torrent of Fire: the THINKING man's easter egg.

Really useful against a 6 man las-plas squad.

I would've thought that rule which adds +1 to your Ld if there are no enemies in line of sight was most missed, ah well I may just be blind to rules :p

It's not just you. People that play Space Marines tend to forget that mere mortals sometimes have to check leadership to rally! ;)

28-11-2007, 20:55
In that case I change the most missed rule to be the one on page 5, you know that 'most Important Rule' thing ;)

Don't forget ToB as well, similar to ToF but in a CC context :)

I thought the most forgotten rule was that all ICs automatically get the Skilled Rider and Move-Through-Cover universal rules

Torrent of fire: 3 Power Fist armed veteran seargents and counting with my sisters!

Its funny when I get to pick out the farseer in a small pack of wraithguard using my 4 autocannons. Here take a save, oh you failed.. He goes to put a dice near his farseer for wounds, and well.. I point out, he's dead from 'instant death'. He gets mad every time.

torrent of fire is your best friend. especially if you combine it with a post-it on the rulebook page with it. There are heaps of rules that not many new people or non-rulezlawyers don't know because they skipped that section.

Like the person who told me that because he assaulted behind my dread he only goes up against armour 10. see page 72 for the answer

another one is that shaken, stunned or immobilized walkers lose one attack. I actually didn't know that one.

@rikens, sorry but the first thing under and they shall know no fear is that "Space Marines automatically pass morale tests to regroup"

It's the no.1 rule most people don't know or overlook.

Nah. I maintain that the No.1 rule that is overlooked is......anything to do with leadership! I think I've lost coun of the number of youngsters I've had start coming to my local club and have no idea what a leadership/morale test is. I do wonder if they've ever pondered what Ld stands for....

29-11-2007, 15:42
thats because LD hardly plays a roll in 40k. which is sad.

ToB is usefull too. If you look at top armies, some are actually based around ToF, for example the eldar lists with too many scatter lasers to count.

Things like this are why I always don't see the point in complaining about vet sarges and other specialists. By the late game of any given match, most of mine have been torrented and a lot of them are dead.

Would anyone like to compile a list of "rules most people don't know or overlook"?

Page numbers and such. Would make a great sticky thread!
