View Full Version : Unique Grey Knight/SM Army Idea

This was born out of one of the discussions I have with my best gaming buddy about his maligned GK's. We're always looking at ways to make the army work, since he's in the same position I was in with my Orks before the new dex. Loves the army, hates the limitations in the rules.

The idea is that the Demon Hunters codex represents the GK's as a force of the =][= but they have a chapter that they are derived from, with all the usual SM based trimmings. This opens up a few unique modeling possibilities. The idea here is to use the SM Codex with Traits to help fill out the list with options. The rules are being tailored around giving the GK army options, not so much about having it fit the fluff of a "GK Chapter with SM stuff". This is why we're using the "Be Swift as the Wind" trait instead of the "Trust your Battle Brothers" trait, because we want to have bikes in the list, but won't be able to fit the stuff we want around it.

Anyway here's the list:

We were figuring that the bikes could be really nice conversions for GK's, using either lances from Fantasy or GK Halbred arms, just counting as their standard CCW's, but looking really nice. The list can get around their anti-tank problems pretty well, but not overly so, and it's a highly maneuverable army. Everything would be painted in GK Colors, including the tanks, and it should look pretty nice I think.

What do you guys take on the list? I figure it's not overly competitive, but still a sold list and stronger than just Pure GK's.

Sounds awesome! I have a SM army of Red Hunters, the only fluff I really ever found was that they have a homeworld of Titan so I took the liberty of starting up my own ideas for a company of them. Using a core army of SM with GK as allies makes for a effective combo, allowing you to bring heavy weapons and jump infantry in my case and a fantastic bike army idea in yours. I hope you go through with the idea, perhaps make them a company of Red Hunters... :D

I just wanted a way to get around the GK's limitation of anti-tank weapons and mobility while also keeping the force elite and somewhat fragile.

I'd like to think I accomplished this here, and I appreciate your comments. :)

I like the list myself.
Though... land raider? Are you sure you want him running around with that liability? I mean terrain.. I mean widow maker... I mean... I think you get the idea:p

Mobility is the key theme to the army, and he needs the extra lascannons.

Plus Land Raiders are just fun. I mean really, they simply are.

Sounds like an awesome idea! I have been throwing it around for awhile with a buddy of mine here. Although, we were going to paint the left of 'standard marines' grey, like GK's and then just use vanilla marines rules.

I like the idea of the GK's on bike with their halberds though, I can picture it and it looks awesome. So if you choose to do this army make sure to post up the pics of the GK's on bike.
