I have been playing warhammer fantasy for a while and have nearly 2,500 in Orcs and Goblins and about 1,500 points in Dwarves. I just started playing epic with my little brother so I'm spending quite a bit on stuff. I bought a warmaster book and the game looks sweet plus the GW online store is selling them in the U.S. so I figured it might be easy. I'm just wondering how much a Warmaster army costs for a good size game and I'd like to see some pics of the armies you guys/gals have done. Also, is the 10mm scale the same as 1/72, because Italeri and other companies have some cool models that'd look awesome!

The ideal game size is around 2000 points
Any army will cost around (GBP)200 new but you can pick them up a lot cheaper on ebay.
You can also get the latest rules from the specialist games site for free.
Best way to pick an army if unsure is to use cardboard proxies to decide which army you like/suits your playing style. Then buy the ones you like.

You will see the same armies coming up again and again on eBay, mainly High Elves, Tomb Kings & Empire, With Dwarves and Orcs & Goblins and mortal chaos a bit less frequently followed by the others that are quite rare.
That said I have managed to amass most of the armies very cheaply by blind luck mostly.

See my signature for images of my forces to date.
Got to put up the images of my 3k of dwarves and just starting my lizardmen.

Your Dark elf and High elf armies are stunning, although I'd probably like to play Skaven or Bretonnia I'm just not sure yet. Thanks for the pics and advice, but 200 GBP in the U.S. is around $400, are you sure that's the price?

Thanks for the compliment.
That price is more for the horde armies at new.
I may have overpriced a bit.
Stuff like chaos warrior/knight heavy mortal chaos armies are quite cheap cash wise.
But for 1010 points of skaven the cost is 97 from GW.
My skaven force is waiting to be painted, and there sure are a lot of rats in a 2k army ;)

In the past I have picked up 3k armies off of bartertown for around 100, that is how I ended up with my dwarves.

There was a kid on there a while ago selling brettonians, but they have probebly gone as they were very cheap.
Also rumour has it brettonians are about to have a new troop type announced. But I love skaven, so they would be my choice.

You mentioned cardboard proxies. Do you know where I could download some cool ones?

Try here http://games.groups.yahoo.com/group/gw-warmaster/
In the files section, you have to join to see them.

Thanks! Those proxies are sooo cool. Do you or anyone else know if the 10mm scale is the same as 1/72 size models like in imex and italeri?

10mm is 1/144th scale. 1/72 is 20mm in height, aproximately. You can use 1/72 if you base infantry 2-4 figures to a stand and cavalry 1 figure to a stand. I'd go for that, if you're simply planning on playing with your brother and friends that don't mind not using GW's own scale.

I have never, however, seen fantasy figures from either Imex or Italeri (zvezda does produce some, though)
