View Full Version : Gorkamorka WILL be back in the new year!

(I wasn't sure whether to post this in 40k News & Rumours, as it's in the 40k Universe but not strictly 40k...)

Just found this over on the Specialist Games forum, and figured this was the best place to put it. It was posted yesterday.

To answer the topic header. Yes it's still very much in sight. As always with this kind of thing, it's a work time issue. So no firm dates but as soon as I can in the new year.

For now,
Andy @ Fanatic

Check it out here. ('http://forum.specialist-games.com/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=12513')

Well GW did say no more SG models for the near future but an online gorkamorka rulebook could work its not like it needs specific models

yes, oh so many levels of awesomeness. it makes sense to bring it out around codex time, but to those of us long in the tooth enough to remember the original, all the better, so excited, i gotta go makes some ladz

Sounds like good news then, unfortunately when I started this hobby I never noticed it until it was taken off sale :cries:. If the PDF rules are released online, it'll look like another new project for me to get into :p

it will boost sales for the orks too.

here that accountents of GW

BOOST and SALE in same sentence for GW products and a positive.

let me repet. BOOST!! and SALES!!

rinse and repet and we are shure that in the ends GW will notice that SG games will BOOST!! SALES!! on GW products.

Yes! The best decision they could have made!

That's pretty much guaranteed the sale of more orks, and probably more battleforces (the perfect ork gang!).

If they were to release GorkaMorka as an Online PDF just as sales of the new Orks were starting to drop...:eyebrows:

As noted, the Battleforce would be an excellent start to a gang... The ability to cross over GorkaMorka and Necromunda...

Some old news from a SG forum thread (http://forum.specialist-games.com/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=8173):

The problem with GorkaMorka, as some people have already pointed out, was that it was very samey and if you wasn't into Orks you were never goint to get into it.

It did lead the way for the Necrons to appear in 40K though.

I will republish the rules to co-incide with the 40K Ork release.

For now,
Andy @ Fanatic

So it seems the release with the Ork Codex was planed. Let's see if SG will deliver this time...

All right! I wanted to get into Gorkamorka first time round it came out, but I was young back then and my dad had a bit of control over my colection.

But when it returns everyhting is gonna be different! I was thinking of adding some Ork allies to my CSM army anyway:D

Also, that new trukk reminds me of one of Andy Chambers trukks he converted.

Never played Gorkamorka, too young to have done, but Im in if it's true. Ive heard loads about it, and being an ork at heart, and having always thought necromunda was good but too cheesy, Gorkamorka appeals loads. Plus, Its an excuse to buy ne ork models :p

I'm doing my part by convincing folk to buy the new Ork Battleforce to use for Gorkamorka. It has everything you need for a mob plus spare boyz for changing equipment.

I am in discussions with my local GW manager to get a special club night set aside for Gorkamorka and the other specialist games if I can generate enough interest. So any Edinburgh folk wanting to play, make yourselves known!

now just to convince some people to play it with me. i could try my dad he plays orks in WHFB so he does have an orcy mentality who knows he might even have an orky mentality and then there's my little brothers who shouldn't be too hard to persuade that just leaves my mom and older brother but who needs them anyway
(to play gorkamorka that is i still want my mom to wash my clothes and all that :p)

I took some time to skim through the rules and a question came to mind. The models can only see and fire at enemies in their front 90 degree arc. I can understand this for vehicles with fixed weapons, but it sounds a bit cumbersome for models on foot. Would it change the game much if I did away with that rule in favor of giving the models a 360 arc of fire?

Vemetric
09-01-2008, 20:52
The 90 degree arc of fire is primarily there for Overwatch fire, since you can declare it as an action. If an enemy crosses into your line of fire, 90 degrees is a heck of a lot different than 360.

For purposes of normal shooting, it's pretty easy to assume a boy can turn as he pleases to fire.

On overwatch, however, choose a 90 degree arc and stick with it.

Veme

Melchor
09-01-2008, 20:56
Don't think so. Just make sure everybody knows and agrees and you'll be fine. And the Overwatch rule becomes a lot more powerfull. Watch out for that.
You'll also miss out on some tactics though. Sneaking up on people and stuff like that.

The fact that you'll only have around 15 models for each side (tops) makes the 90 degree arc a lot more manageable. If you think you'll forget, why not mark the arcs on the models' bases? It's what we're doing at my club for our Necromunda campaign.

Eater of Small Things
09-01-2008, 21:28
Oh yeah, I didn't even think about the effect 360 degrees would have on overwatch.

Thanks for the quick responses and good ideas.

good old GorkaMorka, i still got some of the original boys and the GorkaMorka release WD

the issue before it was released had a fantastic story told by a old ork warrior to some yoofs around a campfire about how the hulk crashed and what happened afterwards.. i loved that story

I'm looking forward to having a biker mob, they may be abit naff but it'll be fun

i wonder how many of todays players who only starting gaming during 3rd ed will be confused by some of GorkaMorkers rules?

Cirrus the Blue
10-01-2008, 05:50
I'm all for the Biker Mobs even if I'm not doing one, myself. I think they're absolutely hilarious and aren't all that overpowered considering they're fragile as heck to a single Trukk. :p Gives a mob a great theme, too putting everyone on a bike. Don't forget about the passengers, too! Each bike can carry 1, so it works out rather well, in all honesty. :) Sorta stinks for the lack of big gunz, but they're still a great choice all the same.

- Cirrus

fattdex
10-01-2008, 06:21
You don't need big gunz when the rider can throw a krak grenade 360 degrees!

My new mob includes 2 bikes (one driven buy a mek with uge choppa and frags, one by a yoof with frags and six shoota) that both have grot passengers wielding shootas :) I'll upgrade them to krak stikkbombs when teef permit, and buy some more bikers.

For purpose of normal shooting, just turn him in direction of target at end of movement phase, or "asume" he changed direction if he's passager of vehicle. For purpose of overwatch, he has 90 degree arc. No need for house rule.

Will it be an expansion to necromunda?

No, it was a stand alone system, a necromunda for orks!

carlisimo
10-01-2008, 23:39
Will it be an expansion to necromunda?

Yeah, what he said.

It was a separate game using basically the same rules. What made it different was a) the vehicles, and b) the emphasis away from shooting, towards close combat. The latter was necessary not just to differentiate it, but because there isn't much terrain in the desert... so the guns suck (they're orky) and the orks are tougher (T4, only out of action on a 6 when they're wounded).

Your whole mob has to fit aboard your vehicles... it's basically The Road Warrior with orks. Each mob has a fort in the middle of the desert, they drive around picking up scrap metal from the space hulk that crashed into the planet and delivered them there, and you also mine for more scrap between battles, at your fort. There's one actual city where you go get things fixed, have random surgery, contribute to Gorkamorka, the giant gargant-looking thing in the center of the city that the orks think will wake up and take them back to the stars one day.

Good backstory for the expansion factions too (Digganob). There's an article in the original rules about an Imperial exploration party checking out the tomb world and its pyramids (this was right before any mention of Necrons had come out). Then the space hulk crashed into the planet and contact was lost with them... they became another footnote in history, lost to the Imperium. But those underground survived and became the Diggas, weak, stupid humans who idolize orks. They have shamans who protect them from whatever's in the pyramids... any orks who try to go there just disappear. Humans (and their horses) who were outside when the space hulk hit became Muties, mutants riding mutant horses with technology that blows the orks away. The muties don't seem to remember anything about humanity, but they know they hate orks. And finally there are communist revolutionary Gretchin. I hope they release the rules for that expansion.

Killgore
11-01-2008, 11:52
the rebel gretchin are a firm favorate of many people and Da Red Gobbo model was one of the cooelst gw models ever made, because life is so short as a gretchin revolutionary the red gobbo would have random stats each game he turned up in :)

The funniest and greatest part about it all was a few days ago I had a random thought of starting Necromunda or Mordheim, next thing I know - BAM Gorka Morka rules. WAAAAAGH, Gork has shown me the light.

god i love gorkamorka.. it was really the last game i properly got into from gw before i quit the first time.

it was nice buying the new trukk [hot] and the new boyz set [awesome] and reading up on the rules. although it does remind me why i left 3rd ed 40k: compared to the 2nd ed rules, it just seemed shallow. not trying to open a debate, both have their merits, but re-reading the rules and getting ready to field my new gorkamorka gang makes me remember what i loved about warhammer and games-workshop games in general: the depth available to a tabletop game.

they work fantastic in skirmish games like gorkamorka or necromunda :D

... i also just bought some muties on ebay for 60 pounds.. all i have to say is im glad i already had a rebel grot gang, who ever thought gorka morka models would be worth so much?!

...wish i had started a digga gang now too.

edit: i would just like to add that GW releasing the rules online got my friend into the idea of starting up again, and resulted in both us buying a trukk and mob each. so by releasing some rules to use their miniatures for free, theyve made a profit.

Being said friend I have to wholeheartedly agree :D.

When Gorkamorka was released back in the late 90s, I was in my early teenage years and thus lacked a disposable income so I was never able to start a Mob. Now GW's clever little marketing ploy to release the Gorkamorka rules at the same time as the new Ork Codex and miniatures has roped me in. Morkers it is!

Still, I'm regretting not having saved what little money I had back in the '97/'98 to purchase a Mutie band. I'm rather jealous of Trendkill's little purchase ;)

*sigh* Looks like I have to convert some Diggas to be my alternate Mob :(
