Anyone got any good pics of the above tanks? The Pred I'm looking for is the one with the curved turret and sponsons. Less common angles would be good too

Thanks

I still field one of those predators every week with my Death Guard, complete with terrible early-90's paintjob. It's not pretty.

I was going through my old armies and I discovered an old school Whirlie, Vindie, and Pred. Gads! What was I thinking? I think I must have painted them in the dark with a paint brush up my nose during an earthquake lol. But, I do love the old pred turrets and was worndering what it would look like if I put an old Pred turret on the new chassis? what do you think? too rounded? too small? I think I might give it a try ad if it doesn't work I may just hit the model store and look for a kit in the right scale to bash. Anyone tried to upgrade the new Pred chassis to have rounded armor? What did it look like?

I have one of the old raiders, not mint though, I would probobly trade it for a new one.
Repost this in the trade section. You might have more luck there.

I got one, too, was the first tank i bought back in the early nineties-i always considered them damn ugly, but after buying the HH artbooks i consider to repaint and modify it for my marines.

I also have an old predator,as well as an old whirlwind(which i still use) and an old vindicator. Especially the whirlwind looks better than the new one,in my opinion...

I love how the Land Raider boxed set contained enough parts to build TWO of them back then.

I wanted one of those old Land Raiders so bad back in 1996-8 when they were out of production.

i've got both, and both have their late 80's unfinished paint job on them (i will finish something one day, honest! 20 years just isn't enough) but i have to say, even though i'm normally nostalgic about my old models (my first edition guard/army are the best models ever) the new models are far far better than the old ones, especially the predator, it's a hideous model. However, my whirlwind that was converted from a rhino using the plans out of WD135-ish is still the nicest one they ever 'made', looks like the original epic ones, MLRS stylee, lovely :)

which made it difficult to fit on the table and play with.

That Landraider is a Mk2. IIRC the Mk1 was a similar vehicle but with only single las-cannon on the sponsons. It's the 'prototype' scratchbuild that you can see in the RT rulebook.

As for that predator... Best version of the tank GW have ever made.

I fielded a Mk1 Predator at the last tank battle I attended. Got quite a few people asking me wtf it was:D

Try fielding the Landspeeder Mk1 and 'Chuck' Dreadnought too. Ancient Marines are Ancient ^_^

I have one of those oldoriginal dreads too. Your right, it does make a lot of peopleask what it is supposed to represent and when I tell them they tell me how"Games Workshop ones look better".:p

The Predator! Used by both the Space Marines AND the Imperial Guard! Woo for generic rules! :D

I don't think that the old Dreads are bad for what they represent. For one you could imagine one fitting into a Rhino (on it's back) for long distance transportation. For two... why make them so huge? A large walker is a huge, slow target with a giant silhouette. Plus the Chuck had jump-jets IIRC.

The Land Raider first design is about as old as I am and about as ugly as I am. And that's saying something :)

I've got some pictures of my old LR (and a few other old models) here: http://www.ageofstrife.com/gallery/Spack45

I can post more pics of the Land Raider if required, but I gave the Rhino and Whirlwind (and an old style Chaos Predator) to a friend.

I still use a Chuck, an Eddie and a Fury in my Da army!

This is one of the nice things about being in the hobby for sooo many years - my army has several generations of model - 3 different Predators, 3 different Razorbacks, 2 vindicators, I could go on!

A decent pic of the rear of the old LR would be great

For those of you who want an old skool Mk I/II Land Raider, check out this article by Bulwark on the Bell of Lost Souls blog:

http://belloflostsouls.blogspot.com/search/label/Bulwark

It's about the third topic down and he does a great job of showing you how to scratch build an original LR.

Enjoy!

I also use old and older Land raiders and predators. My friends make fun of me, because when I need a "new" predator or rhino, I head to ebay.

My favorite predator is the one with the metal side sponsons, but the original predator will always have place in my Chaos army.

If you want one... just scratch build them!

I love the old LR's... that is why I built three of them!

As for the preds... not a big fan of them... but that is just me.

Personally, I only like the old tanks when they're mixed in with the new ones. They just don't match and look out of place.

Now, on their own, I do like them. That's why whenever I get around to doing a (second) small group of Space Marines, I'll probably scratch build a couple of Raiders like they did on BoLS and only use the old style Rhino based tanks.

I love these things so much!

If anyone wants to just drop an old predator on me...
