I'm looking for some alternative models to use for IG. Specifically, plastic and something I can get in the US.

Suggestions anyone?

Thanks!

well what are you looking for? What type of world is this regiment supposed to hail from?

nothing particular. Just wondering what my options might be.

World War 1 or 2 miniatures look as if the could come quite close and are available at most hobby stores and some wal-marts for a fraction of the price of gw models. The trick would be the scale 1:32 might be too big and 1:48 may be too small but it's worth a look. Some bits would probably be neccessary to modernize/gothicize/imperialize them however.

well how much are you willing to convert models? If you're okay with getting down and dirty and cracking out the green stuff then covert them up from Brettonnian Men at Arms like Dave Taylor did with his Genswick 33rd. Thats a sweet army and anyone that can do similar stuff should.

Personally I'm a fan of the FW guard armies Elysians, Death Korps, and Cadians

well, maybe stormtroopers from the starwars collectible mini game? You could do a grenadier army. And use mace windu as a proxy for a gray knight grand master! :D

Oh, and storm troopers on speeder bikes as rough riders!

You get a bunch of cheap soldiers in the Warzone board game ( 2x40, http://www.princeaugust.ie/target_games/tg2420.html ), sometimes on ebay without the game. Warzone also has some discounted metal minis, just browse.

Different fractions from Urban War (and predecessor VOID): http://www.battlefield-berlin.de/shop/index.php?list=WG1088
Infinity different fractions:

Try em4 miniatures, they provide a painted or unpainted option for their figures, do plastic and metal and are very 40k-ish.

They have a web presence.

Battlefield Berlin ( http://www.battlefield-berlin.de/shop/ ) is the major small miniature range online specialist in Germany. Good for research, too. I search there first, if somebody looks for special non-GW minis.

All those ranges have their own websites:
Urban War: http://www.urbanmammoth.com/acatalog/
VOID: http://www.scotiagrendel.com/void_catalogue.html
Infinity: http://www.infinitythegame.com/eng/default.asp

starship troopers from mongoose might be an option.

I don't reccomend these at all, the Mongoose metals are lovely, the plastics are god-awful to put together, and look like ass.

Another source are modern armies like Afghans or African Militia (28mm):

I would highly suggest these.

http://www.pig-iron-productions.com/order.htm#

They sell the heads in packs of 20(perfect for platoon boxes)and the PI Infantry make pretty good Stormtroopers. If you were looking for cheap models as an alternative to GW's, you might look elsewhere as the heads are little more than addons to GW's infantry. But if you sere looking to build a grenedier army the infantry would work great

I can really recommend the Warzone plastic miniatures.
They fit the 40k theme very well (WWI in space theme, miniature size, oversized weapons) and can sometimes be found for little money on eBay. (After the unfortunate demise of Excelsior Entertainment, you could get 400 of them for about 40$.)
The quality of the miniatures is ok. Not quite as good as the current GW plastics range, but on par with older plastics. Only problem is glueing them together - lots of small parts, and normal plastics glue won't work.

Another source to look at might be Iron Pig Productions:
http://www.pig-iron-productions.com/order.htm#

They got two ranges of soldiers that look really great: Colonial Milita and Heavy Infantery. And at 3$ a metal miniature, the price is really fair. Also noteworthy is their heads section - 20 heads for 6$ really allows you to customize an entire army for little money. One idea there might be to get miniatures from a "historic" range (which tend to be quite a bit cheaper than science fiction models) and just do a head swap...

Edit: Ok, Gearhead beat me to it. :)

Pig Iron near future is nice IMO. I really like the Kolony miniatures. The only problem would be lack of special and heavy weapons for them in the 40k universe. If converting is your thing.

Other than that check out the other manufactures under the Sci Fi section of the war store.

I like what this guy did here (http://www.weetoysoldiers.com/wp/?page_id=249)at Wee Toy Soldiers with the Viridian Interdict Marine from the Void 1.1 boxed set. I was thinking they would look very cool with these helms from Pig Iron (http://www.pig-iron-productions.com/order.htm#) CODE: HD.6 H. INF. VISORED HELMET SPRUES or CODE: HD.7 H. INF. CLOSED HELMET SPRUES.

Aren't the products from Pig Iron Resin? I've not worked with that material before. Is it easy to work with?

---Edit---

Anyone know a US source for the Viridian Interdict Marines?

I second the Pig Iron suggestion. You could even do Cadians with PI heads.
