Ok before i start anything, i have to say, i have the latest Spybot S&D and Ad-Aware
so heres my first problem
1:
http://www.advnt01.com/new_sys/popsend.asp?id=31786
occasionally a popunder window appears and goes to this site, and then instantly closes the window again, whats the deal with this site, what does it do, and why doesnt Spybot or Adaware stop them

problem 2:
fofma.exe and fofmm.exe, i do not recognise these processes in my process list when i access by doing ctrl alt del, what are these two applications since they are running in the background and more importantly are they spyware.

so yeah these things have me stumped and the internet isnt helping much

figured portent is the best place

ok this is a solution/question

I have a laptop provided by my school, and we are allowed to re-image them, we have to save everything we need on cd or a network drive cause it wipes everything out and starts everything over again. it fixes all virus problems, spy-ware and everything else that could get "clogged" in the hard drive. It would be a good solution to the problem you're having, but I don't know if I'm in a special situation and no one else can re-image.

You want Webroot Spy Sweeper, available here (http://www.webroot.com/consumer?rc=266&ac=417&wt.srch=1&wt.mc_id=417) :
I recently got PSguard, which AdAware, Spybot, and HijackThis wouldn't kill, and CWShredder wouldn't even pick it up (It's a variant of CWS).

This nuked it good and hard.

neither have any hits on google, so its a safe bet that you should remove them asap, manually.

Try get microsoft anti-spyware...

firefox...

and ummm Norton Internet Security :p... (.. i know a lot of people are gunna disagree with me, but in terms of ad-blocking, pop-up blocking kick arsiness as well as firewall, nothing is getting through my computer in terms of ad-ware/spyware, or viruses for that matter.

Microsoft Anti-spyware is still in its beta form, but you may still be able to download it from their site.

I run the Microsoft Beta together with Norton Internet Security and have yet to be troubled by any unwanted software.

Or maybe I'm lucky :D

I recently also have been infected with a god awful spyware programme. And the definition of the programme you tell about sounds a lot like the problems I had. I suggest you to do a search for nail.exe on your hard disk.

If the search does show up a nail.exe on your HD I suggest to google for a solution. Unfortunately I recently tossed out the link nail removal instructions link out of my favourites so I can't help you much.

Get Firefox (http://www.mozilla.org/products/firefox/) and Spyware Blaster (http://www.javacoolsoftware.com/spywareblaster.html). With those two combined you'll never have spyware again.

I used to have **** like that all the time. I even had two versions of CWS that i had to remove manually (which is a bitch).

Oh and if you're getting Firefox, have a look at this thread (http://www.warseer.com/forums/showthread.php?t=2455&page=1&highlight=firefox) and this post (http://www.warseer.com/forums/showpost.php?p=41178&postcount=20) specifically.

Dont forget that it wasn't microsoft that built up the most of Microsoft Antispyware. It was actually built up by a company called "giant", i think it was giant... began with a G, im sure...

then microsoft bought them out for it.

Technically speaking, its hardly a microsoft product, and seeing as its still in beta, no product registration (product registration is the devils work, I swear!)

Yes, yes, you're very clever. How about you apply that cleverness to doing something about it instead of spouting the same old retread "jokes" from the 20th century?

o/\o

I was about to say that. I've always found anti-MS (or should that be M$?) comments faintly annoying. They seem to mostly come from people who hate how sucessful MS have become, rather than anyone who can come up with a decent reason as to why they are so evil. Most MS products actually do their job really well. Yes Wondows can be unstable, but can anyone recommend a better OS that someone like my wife can use? How about a word processor, spreadsheet package or presentation package that are as easy to use as the Office suite of packages?

Open Office (http://www.openoffice.org/). It does the same, only better and for free.

I just like the word "broked". It makes me smile, and also underlines my computing ineptness in this case.

MS antispyware gives you the option to block suspicious startup applications. Well, something looked suspicious, so I blocked it. Then the computer went "wzzzzzzzzz bgbgbgbgbgb DING DING DING" next time I started it up. So I went to unblock said application, which MSAS said I could do, but when I followed the instructions, the requsite menu or button was rather on the absent side. So I had to uninstall it. I know it's a beta, but that was a bit too beta-ish for my liking.

Also, we had an office competition to see which spyware checker was best (working hard as usual). We each scanned our computers simultaneously using AdAware, SpyBot and MSAS. On my PC AdAware got 11 files, SpyBot 6 (all duplicates of the ones that AdAware found) and MSAS got... a big fat ZERO.

Sorry for the OT

Microsoft is a viruis itself and should be stoped asap.

As valid as many gripes against microsoft may be (business practices, or products), I believe the ubiquiotousness of personal computers, (and by extension the internet) would not be what it is today without microsoft.

Open Office (http://www.openoffice.org/). It does the same, only better and for free.

The only advantage I found Open Office had over MS Office is the fact that it's not so memory intensive. For some reason I just didn't like using it, though that's probably down to the fact that I've used MS Office for years...

I also had loads of problems with sendin .doc files to people who us MS Office, they'd come out really messed up, the problem being that everyone uses MS Office, so it just wasn't viable to use Open Office...

Well i really had to get used to their spreadsheet program and i still have a love/hate relation with it but the word processor is much better for as far as i can tell. Never had problems with .docs from others either.

I use it because i lost my Office CD btw. :p
