View Full Version : Replacements/Stand ins for Vespids?

I truly hate the Vespid models.

Now i am searching for different models, that could replace them in my new Tau army.

My army fluff is heavily based on human auxiliaries. I have Catachans as Kroot and i intend to use some normal Guard with the auxiliaries rules from the GW website.

So i try to make my "Vespids" fit into that concept.

What i am searching are models, that have these characteristics

- human
- jumppacks
- tough looking (armoured? but no power armour)
- not to high-tech
- powerful/experimental looking guns

If they have a jungle-fighter feel to them, even better.

Does anyone know a model range, that has those?

The Starship Troopers range has some flight troops: MI WASP Troopers Squad (http://www.mongoosepublishing.com/home/detail.php?qsID=875&qsSeries=Starship%20Troopers#)
No idea how well they might fit in though...

If you are into conversions: Hasslefree Miniatures offers stand-alone jump packs (http://www.hasslefreeminiatures.co.uk/pack.php?pack=507). Perhaps combining them with the heavy infantry from Pig Iron Productions (http://www.pig-iron-productions.com/order.htm#) might work for you.

The elysian drop troops from FW are nice and fit the bill you are looking for.

Pricey, but if its a smaller force then its nice

I took the standard guardsmen, and green gooed up a jet pack. Still working on the wings for them though.

And I thought, this thread was about Tau, not IG

It is. If you want a heavy human auxiliary force, what better way to do it than, to have "vespid" and 'kroot'?

I took the old stealth suits. Sawed off the burst cannon and replaced it with the death spinner from an eldar warp spider exarch. You have a lot of sawing and filing to do but the people that have seen my models say they like the conversion. Since I don't take any stealth suits in the army I haven't gotten any confusion and I painted the weapons a really bright blue which highlights the change.

I saw some converted Fire Warriors with jetpacks to represent Vespid somewhere, can't remember for the life of me where though. Maybe have a browse through some Tau Project Logs?

Elysian Jumppacks were the first thing that came to mind. :) Otherwise a converted standard Marine backpack could also work (as well as being very common, thus cheap).

Kasrkin/Inquisitorial Stormtroopers (the metal ones with armour before the Kasrkin) with a modified Marine backpack, or even standard Cadians with said backpack, some GS/Plasticard armour and some hightech gubbins if you want it *really* on the cheap.

Well, if you tolerate non-IG models in your Tau army, I would suggest these:
1.) Geonosian Soldiers form Star Wars Miniatures "Clone Strike" (pic 1)
2.) Hydrissans from Alpha Forge (pic 2)
3.) Or if it must be gue'la, VASA/Triad Dragonflies from Urban War (pic3)
