View Full Version : New Chaos Marines

22-12-2007, 01:39
Hello, i am new to the whole log thing, but i was hoping to share my progress as i build and paint a new chaos army. I really want this one to be something special, so im hoping that people will give advice and comments on how i can improve.

The pics are from the first squad of plague marines. The squad has 2 meltaguns, and the champ has a fist.

Not sure if the pics are going to be good enough, so some input there would be nice. I made a lightbox and used autolevels on photoshop...

22-12-2007, 04:07
Hmm seems i need to figure out a better way to post pictures.... hopefully ill get this figured out soon

Yes sir, some pics would be much appreciated. Otherwise my eyegasmic receptors remain empty. Astro travellin with no mind space recovered.

22-12-2007, 15:34
Ok the first set of images i posted seem to be hit and miss, so here they are again.

Mr Feral
22-12-2007, 15:42
I don't see any images. Try using Photobucket and pasting in the code.

22-12-2007, 15:45
You need either to upload the images to Warseer or use an image hosting service like photobucket. You seem to be using image tags on images which are stored on your computer which we can't access.

22-12-2007, 16:57
Ok can you guys see them now?

22-12-2007, 17:28
Yes, any very impressive they are too well done. My favorite is the chap in the top left, that mask is cool.

Mr Feral
22-12-2007, 17:32
Oooooh very nice work here.

22-12-2007, 18:45
Wow. Very cool conversions. I love the globadier backpack concept.

Metal Fingered Villain
22-12-2007, 20:18
Mmm, nurgle is my favorite flavour. Those marines look sweet, as said the dude in the top left with the mask is mighty fine, I might have trimmed it down a little so it wasnt quite so large, but thats just small nit picking. Slap some paint on those badboys, if you model this good, Id like to see how you paint.

22-12-2007, 20:22
Great start. Sweet GS skills, if I may say so. And building a lightbox to make it easier to share your pics is very considerate!

The main thing I'd like is bigger pictures of individual models or two models at a time (so as not to incur the wrath of the side-scrolling bar of doom!).

22-12-2007, 20:27
Thanks guys
I will try to get up some pictures of 2 models at a time.

Metal: it will be some time before i get paint on them. I am working at building and converting the whole army first so i can play with them at the same time. It is the painting side of things that will be most challenging for me. Dont get me wrong, i can hold my own, but when you are taking close up photos it requires a whole new level of proficiency.

22-12-2007, 20:44
Very cool models. I'd love to see a close up of the champ if that's possible.

As far as building and converting, I'm the same way get it all done before painting. I'm almost finished with my DG army and have finally started painting. You can check out my project log here (http://warseer.com/forums/showthread.php?t=115719) and maybe get some ideas for your army.

22-12-2007, 21:53
Here is my attempt at a better close up. I cannot go any bigger or the pictures get fuzzy. This is the champ. Ill try to get the rest of the squad up today, but if not it will be a couple days before i update as im going out of town.

22-12-2007, 22:07
well done, good thing you got those pictures sorted out because these guys are great. ill be watching.

22-12-2007, 22:19
Ok here are the melta gunners, looking at them now i think that i will need to greenstuff around the second ones mouth tube, it looks a bit odd.

On this photo i noticed that the hoses comming out of the backpacks need to go somewhere, they look very unfinished. Not sure if my greenstuffing is up to doing hoses.. have to figure out something... what do you guys think of the bionic melta gun, looks a little off to me

23-12-2007, 00:37
You could just have the hoses dripping something out, that would work for nurgle marines and save you a bit of bother.

23-12-2007, 01:06
Im really digging that champion with the forgeworld servo head. The collar is a really sweet addition. Clean those mouldlines!

23-12-2007, 01:58
Thanks for the close ups. The stomach staples on the hooded meltagunner are brilliant. I'd like to borrow that idea if you don't mind.

23-12-2007, 02:34
wow, those are really cool, the poisoned wing globadier backpacks work really well with those. can't wait to see them all done up!

23-12-2007, 03:00
Thanks for calling me on the mold lines villain, i have since cleaned them up.

Cadaver, i just used some very small gauge wire and bent it with pliers and poked it in while the gs was wet.

23-12-2007, 04:53
what else do you have planned for this army?

23-12-2007, 05:24
Ill try to put up the list a little later.

23-12-2007, 07:56
Now these are what you call chaos marines!

Excellent kit bashing and conversion work.

23-12-2007, 09:27
Hail Grandfather Nurgle!

These are very cool.

Can't wait for paint :D

The Laughing God
23-12-2007, 12:36
Nurgle armies always look like so much fun to convert. My favorite part is the stomach acid sac things.

Can't wait to see more

24-12-2007, 22:32
Thanks guys, i think chaos is the greatest army to convert, and i am having alot of fun with this.

Khorgan: i wont post the exact list yet but the basic plan is:

1 Sorcerer of slaanesh (lash of course, wings)
7x plague marines 2melta, champ with fist (total of 8 models) in a rhino
7x plague marines 2 plasma, champ with fist in a rhino
8-10 berzerkers and champ with p-weapon. These guys will ride in the landraider
5x raptors 2 meltaguns, champ with fist. Escort for sorcerer
Land raider
2x obliterators
2x obliterators

Pictures will follow :)

24-12-2007, 22:54
Ok here are the closeups of the rest of the squad. Hopefully will have up the sorcerer tonight

24-12-2007, 22:55

Ill put the sorcerer up now too

24-12-2007, 23:11

24-12-2007, 23:39
Very pretty, I like this guy a lot. Khorne helmets are awesome without the bunny ears.

25-12-2007, 01:16
Your conversions look very good! I love the first champion you did (did you use a servo skull for his head?) The melta gunner with the hood is ace as well. The slaanesh champion is amazingly good looking too. The wings look very well done, but I am not a fan of wings attached to chaos marines (unless they look properly daemonic)

25-12-2007, 02:56

What's the Tubes coming out of his back? Plasti-tube? Where can I get some?!

25-12-2007, 05:53
Disturbing; i agree the khorne helmets are excellent for just about anything once the rabbit ears are gone lol

Norse; that is indeed a forge world servo scull. I have one more kicking around for a special project. I am finding that all the impulsive buys over the years give me a very good selection of bits to convert with

Scholar; it is styrene tubing. I picked it up at my local hobby shop which is where i also get my sheet styrene (plasticard). I cannon tell you a place in your area that will carry it but you can go to the plastruct website and either order some, or find out who carries it in your area.

If you go through there catalog you will undoubtedly find "too" many cool things to buy ;P

Next up should be another plague marine aspiring champ, and maybe a couple of berzerkers.

25-12-2007, 09:35
Looking forward to your take on Zerkers, but will you use THE GINORMOUS HANDS OF DOOM?!? Guess I'll have to wait and see.

25-12-2007, 15:32
The guy with the hood is nice, never seen that head before, what sprue is it from?

25-12-2007, 23:17
Sharp, the head is from the dark angels command sprue

26-12-2007, 00:13
looking at your list i have a few questions,

Will you convert your obliterators from scratch, or use the existing models?

Will your land raider belong to Khorne because it houses the bezerkers, or will you make it undivided?

Is the Sorcerer going to be the army general? I think it would tie together the feel of the army if you had an undivided charicter for the general, if your mixing marks i think that is the best way to go.

26-12-2007, 01:01
Wurg! Now that's an impressive sorcerer! What's the deal with the tube sticking out of the Nurgle champ's stomach?

26-12-2007, 03:57
What's the deal with the tube sticking out of the Nurgle champ's stomach?

its there becuase it looks *********** awesome!

26-12-2007, 04:57
Khor, i am planning to make the oblits mostly from scratch . I have ordered 4 of the trojan demolition vehicles from forgeworld, which i plan to use as the base, and then model a torso on top with weapon arms. For now i am planning on using spawn torsos.
The landraider will be modeled as undivided.

As far as the army general, i am not sure. The sorcerer will take that place for now, but i also have a nurgle terminator lord modeled from before the chaos terminator box. Might put up a picture of that for some comments. Im not sure about an undivided... but i will agree it would suit the fluff better.

26-12-2007, 16:31
its there becuase it looks *********** awesome!

Oh, I'm in full agreement on that. It looks like some kind of slap-dash catheter, which is wonderfully Nurgle-y.

26-12-2007, 17:16

can you post pictures of the terminator?

27-12-2007, 02:29
I wont be able to post the terminator for about a week, he is not currently in my possession. I have another plague marine champ to post tonight, and maybe some berzerkers in a few days.

27-12-2007, 02:37
a quick correction, i will be using the cyclops demolition vehicles from forgeworld, not the trojans.

27-12-2007, 03:25
cool conversion with the OK bag, i never thought of that

03-01-2008, 03:43
Ok update time. Here are some of the berzerkers i have been working on

03-01-2008, 03:44

03-01-2008, 04:31
Very cool take on Nurgle and Khorne, dude. Keep the ideas flowing!

03-01-2008, 05:15
nice glaives

03-01-2008, 05:42
I love the nurgle conversions (plasmas are a pretty good buy for plague marines thanks to feel no pain), and your zerkers look pretty cool (glaves mainly do it, keeps the gladitorial theme) and that sorc is sweet as, but I'm not a fan of mixing marks, that said it's your army and you can do whatever the heck you want (and with conversions like that, there would be no complants from across the table either)

03-01-2008, 06:47
Damn bro, you are reimagining Chaos warriors into religious freaks as they ought to be!

03-01-2008, 15:00
thanks guys :)
Hopefully i will have a rhino or two to post next time

03-01-2008, 16:07
WOW!!! Your conversion skills are sick. I look forward to seeing more.

03-01-2008, 16:50
Some really characterful conversions. Great work!

05-01-2008, 00:04
new update: landraider!
This sweet machine will be used to deliver my khorne berzerker squad

05-01-2008, 00:46
holy god that landraider is boss

05-01-2008, 01:10
got enough spikes on there?
its sweet really like the GS banners and the chains

Colonel Stagler
05-01-2008, 02:01
do you call him mr spikey? that would be a nice name for that raider!
stagler out

05-01-2008, 02:11
Awesome log, but I would bet your gonna regret those spikes when you get half of them through your foot :P

05-01-2008, 04:38
you ttok the Marines with Spikez to anothe rlevel entirly.

05-01-2008, 05:41
Someone suggested that i throw it at my opponent every time i loose :P

05-01-2008, 05:53
That landraider looks sooo good, the spikes are brilliant!

Good idea with the Bezerker weapons aswell, nice and fitting.

05-01-2008, 18:13
With the raider i wanted something that would match the aggression and fury of the berzerkers. I wanted it to look like a chaos vehicle, not a loyalist with a new paintjob. In case anyone is wondering the white dots are larger rivets, which when painted i hope will make it look like an older mark landraider. Im not sure what they looked like pre-heresy...
Anyway im glad you guys like it :)

05-01-2008, 23:35
That is one Hell of a spiky Raider.
Seriously suited for Khorne. Keep it up.

05-01-2008, 23:40
Great conversions and that Hedgehog-pattern Landraider just looks ace! ^^

05-01-2008, 23:54
Those are some top conversions matey, love it, keep them coming

06-01-2008, 00:45
Very creative work on the marines! I am watching to see what you come up with next, great work.

On the landraider chains, do you attach it all over before painting it or do you allow it to hang? I'm looking at using some jewelers chain on some models and was curious how people use it. Again, great work, keep it up!

06-01-2008, 02:03
Blade: its up to you whether to attach the chains or not. I generally tack it in a few places to make it hang the way i want, then just leave the rest loose. It is not hard to paint when loose, but you have to mess around a bit to get it primed properly. There are painters that are going to cringe at this, but i find that latex paint is quite flexible and does not chip off if the chains are loose. Does anyone know what will happen in the long term... do latex paints eventually harden and become brittle? If so i will have to rethink leaving them loose.

06-01-2008, 10:05
I'm fairly certain latex paint remains flexible.

As I don't like them to flop about, I tend to do the chains by glueing the points where they attach and then running thin super glue over each link. It's practically invisible, but I still paint them to fit with the miniature. Standard miniature paints do the job, over a spray undercoat.

06-01-2008, 14:05
Okay i might give that a try, im sure it would make them easier to prime if they were not swinging in the wind.

06-01-2008, 14:36
I really like that land raider looks very khorney *note to self never play against pravis if s/he if in a bad mood*

06-01-2008, 17:08
Thanks for the tips on the chains. What's next on your build list?

06-01-2008, 17:15
lol cyprus

Blade, i have a nurgle terminator lord to post and maybe a rhino for one of the plague marine squads

06-01-2008, 19:19
Ok well no terminator lord, but as promised here is the transport for the first squad of plague marines

Just a note, it is hard to tell from my crappy pictures but the marine on top is supposed to be calling nurglings forth from inside the rhino. Wanted to go for the daemonic possession look

06-01-2008, 21:30
that rhino looks very nurgley, nice work!

06-01-2008, 22:25
daemonic possession on a rhino I feel is a waste of 20 points, but well....atleast you have a cool looking wysiwyg

Great Harlequin
06-01-2008, 22:31
That Rhino made me giggle in a good way. Top stuff!

07-01-2008, 00:11
jeez, i wouldn't want to try and pick up that landraider. interesting build on the plaguemarine rhino, gonna look great when painted up

07-01-2008, 01:00
adreal, i agree possession is a waste on a rhino, will probably just use it as a cool looking nurgle rhino.

07-01-2008, 01:28
Fantastic marines, and I love the spikey land raider!! Are you gonna paint any stuff soon or build the whole army before you start cracking at it?

07-01-2008, 02:19
Thanks, Im going to build the entire army first, then work on the painting

07-01-2008, 03:10
That Land Raider is awesome. The rhino looks like a veritable rolling scat wagon which good because that what it should like.

08-01-2008, 19:20
Haha, scat wagon, that is awsome :P

Here is rhino 2:

08-01-2008, 19:57
Looks awesome! I love the use of the wooden shields in groups of three for the Nurgle symbol. Can I ask where you got the 2 metal Nurgle symbols that are on the front? Great work, keep it up!

08-01-2008, 20:48
Looks awesome! I love the use of the wooden shields in groups of three for the Nurgle symbol. Can I ask where you got the 2 metal Nurgle symbols that are on the front? Great work, keep it up!

Old plague marine icon i believe.

08-01-2008, 20:56
I despise both building and painting tanks and as such avoid them whenever I can, however looking at these, the two rhinos especially, I have a rather strong urge to pick up a brush and have a go. (and I've never been a fan of nurgle to boot!). Fabulous amount of character you've managed to inject into what are usually (in my opinion) the most bland and boring models on the field.

Do you mind me asking where you got the scale chain? I've been having bother getting a decent looking one fit for 25mm when planning to use a lot of it soon and that looks far better than the jewellery chain I'm using at present.

08-01-2008, 22:16
Thanks again guys :)

Blade: the icons are indeed oop plague marine icons as Khorgan observed. I think they are special order bitz. I found them by searching the canadian store with the keywords nurgle icon.

Should be available through all online stored but who knows if they use the same name/bit #

Arkzein: Thanks for the high praise :)
I actually picked my chain up at 2 different bead stores. Not sure if you are familiar with them, but they are little specialty shops that sell supplies for making bead necklaces and the like. Kind of got lucky... one had the larger and one the smaller. I have seen even finer stuff but cannot find a local source. I know that you can get it from places that sell dollhouse supplies. That again is a specialty market for people who make scale model buildings for dolls.... kind of like scale railroad meets barby =P

09-01-2008, 00:23
I have to admit, my eyeballs nearly came out of their sockets when I saw the raider.

09-01-2008, 01:48
Its all fun and games until someone looses an eye. Still waiting for some forgeworld bitz so i can start on the oblits. Im really looking forewords to them... got my super fine milliput today too, hopefully it will find good use.

09-01-2008, 02:08
how long ago did you order the forgeworld bits?

09-01-2008, 03:54
I believe it has been about 3 weeks. I expected delays b/c of xmas though. Think they had to do a run as well b/c my buddy got some of his stuff already.

09-01-2008, 04:24
Because of all the crap (pun intended) piled on those rhinos that actually look a little like the wierd 2nd edition ones but still bulky like the current ones. Sort of like a Rhino Mk1.5

keep it up. When you paint the first one you should totally give it a banner saying Scat Wagon. the other Rhino can be the dung cart.

Lord Macharius
09-01-2008, 16:28
Wow, these guys are so cool! Especially the land raider! cant wait to see them painted!

10-01-2008, 22:11
Hey guys time for a small update. I have finished off the berzerker squad. I think i like these guys more than the first batch i posted... better poses.

Went with a champ with power weapon b/c the raider should allow them to pick targets, and S5 I5 with 5 attacks is pretty nice.

The rest are just normal berzerkers.. no plasma death for this cat

10-01-2008, 22:12

10-01-2008, 22:16

Look forward to more.

11-01-2008, 06:12
This is simply awesome.
Love your conversions, many Nurgle conversions end up being kinda "meh....".
These on the other hand are well thought and well executed!

Subscribed and aching to see more.

11-01-2008, 11:43
Very imaginative models. I felt that they were in good keeping with the subject matter. You have made excellent use of plastic kits in a way that is quite inspirational.

11-01-2008, 17:28
Loving your Chaos Marines, Pravis, great Death Guard conversions, and that spikey Land Raider is something else! It's work like this that raises the bar on my own Chaos army. Keep up the great work!

11-01-2008, 22:00
Thanks guys, glad you like them, should have some more plague marines ready in a bit, and im still waiting for my cyclops vehicles from FW so i can do the oblits. Other than that the modeling portion of this log is nearing completion.
