The staff at one of the indy shops near me claims that GW now refuses to stock independent stores with BFG models unless the stores pay full retail for them (and that this has been going on for nearly a year).

Is this true? The staff at this particular store have pulled some ridiculous untruths from their rear ends before.

That's a new one by me, seems a little too farfetched. Although I just popped over to the UK site and clicked on the BFG link and got a "page can not be displayed."

....But then I tried the link from the Specialist homepage and it worked fine and dandy. I'm thinking it's just a bad link (never any of those on GW pages ;) )

But seriously, I don't understand why store employees or owners choose to make up random crap like that (speaking as both a former employee and owner). How does it help your business to lie to your customers? And then to build a reputation as the "store that makes crap up"? A dedicated customer base that does not make....

They aren't making it up. Check some other forums for more info.

The game isn't OOP, yet. However, when BFG 2.0 comes out, statements from the dev team indicate it will only be available as a free download from the website. No print book. Also, when the plastic cruiser plates wear out, they won't be producing more of those either, but will be selling them as (more expensive) metal kits.

I heard this from other sources as well. It seams that they only sell them "Direct Only" as they call it nowadays. Even in its best days it was always difficult for Indies to get all the SG stuff.

Have fun,

Rolf.

Not just BFG. Pretty much all of the specialist stuff is now full price to independent retailers.

Ours has been systematically reducing his stock.

That just doesn't make sense... From what I hear the primary cost for plastic models is making the mould to begin with. Once it's made it's actually cheaper to produce them than metal minis. So now GW would have to restart and make metal versions of the Imp and Chaos cruisers and that would COST them money!

I think he was saying that when those really expensive molds wear out, that they won't bother making new ones and will switch to metal. He was just calling the expensive molds "plastic cruiser plates."
