THE TALE OF FANTASY PAINTERS : MONTH SIX.

Hello, fellow painters.

Happy New year. Hope everyone had a good holiday and found some time for painting. Its that time again. Time for the Tale Of Fantasy Painters monthly update!

So here we are six months in. Half way through the project. We should all have about half an army painted by now.

Those of you who are participating, this is the official thread in which you should post the work you have done in month Six. (December). You should post up to three photographs of your months work and a photo of the army so far. (The last six months work). Six Months in you should now have between 800 and 1,200 points painted (depending on how many jokers you have used).Remember if you are doing more than one army you should do a separate post for each army as if each army were a different painter.

With the photographs of you work please include a description of each character/unit you have painted, including the number and type of models, and any upgrades, items and equipment they carry, followed by the total points cost of the unit and, if you have painted more than one unit, give the total points cost of your months work.

You can also say anything you like about the highs and lows of your months painting. What you enjoyed or found hard, what you were especially pleased with, etc.

I will be posting my armies using the, now, familiar format. Please feel free to do the same. (or not!)

I hope you have all had a great months painting.
I can’t wait to enjoy the results.

All the best
Harry

WHAT IS IT AS ALL ABOUT?

The aim of The Tale of Painters (TOP) is to help motivate those involved to start and complete a 2000 point army in the next twelve months.

The painters involved have made a commitment to paint and post, by the last day of each month, approx 200 points of their chosen army. They do this each month for the next 12 months. Starting with the last day of July 2007.

However, because people have real lives with exams, holidays, honeymoons, new babies etc, etc. They get two 'Jokers'. For two months within the year you can ‘play a joker’ and rather than post an update they can post saying "sorry guys couldn't get it done this month. Real life got in the way." But the other 10 Months they have to come up with (approx) 200 points of painted and based figures. 200 points for 10 out of the next 12 months.

In twelve months time we will all end up with a finished 2000 point army.

All chat, questions, discussion, WIP, painting advice, encouragement, tutorials, etc, etc, should be on this thread.

A new thread will be opened on the last day of each month for each painter to post the next 200 point ‘update’ for the army they are painting and a picture of the army to date.

I will just take this opportunity to thank all the painters who have signed up for their interest and enthusiasm and for their ideas that have helped shape this project. I wish you all the best of luck and I hope this project is a big success for everyone involved. I also hope 'the viewers at home' enjoy the results of all the work of the painters involved.

The good news ... There are 20 of us left. :D

I guess Ill kick things off this month! First off Happy New Year everyone, hope you all a good one! This month I got another bolt thrower done and a unit of 5 dark riders. Really happy how the riders came out! Im going to add some baggage from the Empire pistoliers to give the idea that they are self sufficent and live out in the wilderness for days on end. Also gives a good excuse as to where their crossbows are! Also managed to make some movement trays for each of the units Ive done so far. I also managed to sort out my cross-eyed mage! Ill post some pics of him later.
Painted this month;
1 Bolt thrower 100pts
5 Dark Reavers, crossbows and musician 126pts
Army so far 801pts
Ill be post some pics in my project log later today.

The Middenland and Middenheim 8th

Units: 10 Swordsmen, 5 Halbediers, and Helstorm Rocket Battery

Backround/Theme: Warriors from Middenland and Middenheim band together to fight against invaders.

Build/Conversion: The Halbediers are kind of converted with a head swap a weapon swap and a different body. As Swordesmen are concerned a different arm a few different heads, and sheilds from the knightly orders. The Helstorm was built from chop sticks cut and meassured to fit propperly on a 50mm base. And with a few bitz from the new plastic Helstorm/Helblaster box kit makes a cool looking Helstorm. And one of the crewmen is from the Cannon/Mortar kit.

Painting: Pretty much the same as the rest of the army except the Helstorm. The base has burm marks on the base that shows that that area has had a lot of rockets shot of from there. It was a simple wash of Black Ink and drybrush Codex Grey in the washed area. For little cinders still going a simple dot of Blood Red then Firey Orange and finally Golden Yellow.

Basing: Same as the rest of the army.

Still to do: Nothing at all.

Ups: Just getting them finished.
Down: Nothing really.

Points:10 Swordesmen pts.60
5 Halbediers pts.25
Helstorm Rocket Battery pts.115
Total for this month 200
Total from last month pts.991
All around total 1191

@jme
Wonderful looking army. The Dark riders worked out really well. Clever combo of kits and bits for a great result.

@Dino
Well done on getting that lot done and your now traditional early post. :D
Really like the DIY Rocket Launcher. The scorched patch worked out very well I think.

Do me one, small, tinsy winsy favour. Give folks a few days to get there stuff posted before you start posting your WIP for this month. (let us get off the first page at least). :D

@Arhalien
Well done. You may not be happy with hte eternal guard but I think the Waywatchers may be your best painting yet.

@Netguru
Glad to see you back. Sorry I gave up on you and deleted you prematurely.
We missed you. (You raise the tone a bit around here from the rest of the rif raf). :D
I have added you back to the list. I have put you down for 3 months painting and two jokers. Hope thats OK and hope you can get back on track at some point ... now you have remembered us.

Your standard of painting remains high. (your standard of photography on the other hand....) The bits in focus look great. :D

DARK ELVES:

UNIT(S) : Dark Elf Nobel riding Dark Pegasus and Harpies of Karond Kar.

BACKGROUND/THEME: The army of Karond Kar.

In the tongue of men the city of Karond Kar is called the city of Despair. It is to this terrible place that thousands of slaves are bought. Men from the old world, Elves from Ulthuan, and more from all across the world all destined to serve the Witch king. The wailing spirits of dead slaves are said to haunt the whole city. The Dark Elves love to hear this sound of dread and despair. It fills their dreams with delicious images of suffering and pain.

Karond Kar is the bastion of our Beastmasters. Here are the stables where the beasts that serve our great cause are reared and trained, The folk of Karond Kar also tame the ferocious cold ones. Hatch and hand rear the beasts and train them to accept riders.
When a child shows talent for taming animals he is sent to the city of Karond Kar to study under the masters who dwell there. Beastmasters are also in charge of the slaves.

The army will be made entirely from vintage Marauder miniatures.

BUILD/CONVERSION: Straight out of the box vintage Marauder Assassin

PAINTING: Still having problems settling on a colour scheme for the elves but went with the same skin tones and hair colouring as the rest of the army and the obvious choice of colours for clothing.

BASING: The same as the other bases to tie it in with the rest of the army (Gritty sand, scorched brown highlighted with bestial brown and bleached bone mixes. I have left these looking more barron as I imagine the far north of Naggaroth to be).

STILL TO DO: Not much.

HIGHS AND LOWS: High: Lovely characterful mini to paint. No Low.

POINTS: Dark Elf Assassin 125

Not 200 but I was slightly ahead on this army ... I make my total : 1217 (Bang on track!)

Heroes:

Assassin. (125) Additional Hand weapon. (4) (129)

@Harry: Thx man. And as to youre other comments don't worry I'm starting another thing like TOP on Ammobunker with IG and will definetly not be doing that this month cause I really have to get my but into gear and started on it. DWARVES:

UNIT: Burlock Damminson

BACKGROUND/THEME: Can't really have an army based around the Engineers guild and not include Burlock......

Burlok Damminson is regarded as one of the greatest engineers of all time. In his youth he and his accomplice Sven Hasselfriesan made many great discoveries and invented some of the most outlandish and powerful machines ever to grace a Dwarven workshop - not that the Engineers guild was aware of most of their work at the time. However, following some unwise experimentation with pressure vessels, Burlok lost his left arm. After this near-fatal event, Burlok became much more of a traditionalist, although Sven continued with his illicit research until eventually dismissed from the Guild arfter enduring the embarrassing Trouser Legs Ritual. Burlok replaced his arm with a mechanical version, which he has tinkered with continually over the years. Nowadays, he is the terror of younger Engineers, who find it hard to believe that he was once considered among the most radical of their order.

BUILD/CONVERSION: Straight out of the box. Classic dwarf Lord mini.

PAINTING: Speed paint job. Dry brushed and washes all around.

BASING; Gritty sand, painted bestial brown, highlighted with Snakebite leather and bleached bone mixes with static grass still to be added after.

STILL TO DO: Forgot static grass! Missed bottom lip. Not done steam guages yet... bits of finishing up to be done.
Oh! and a back banner!

HIGHS AND LOWS: High : Already half painted in month one so quick to finish off. Low : Not finishing him off.

POINTS: Burlock Damminson : 255

Burlok is a Dwarf Lord and can be taken as a Lord choice in any Dwarf army. He must be fielded exactly as presented, and no extra equipment can be bought for him.

Weapons & Armour:
Burlok's Hammer, which bears the Master Rune of Swiftness (always strikes first); Burlok's Armour, this suit of Gromril armour bears the Master Rune of Adamant (+1T, shown on profile); Burlok's Machanical Arm, which is represented with two Runes of Cleaving (+2S in total, shown on profile).

VAMPIRE COUNTS:

UNIT: 5 Wraiths and 2 Banshaees. (I know this is not currently a legal unit, it may never be, but .... thats what I heard.

BACKGROUND/THEME: No theme selected. Vanilla Undead (at this point).

BUILD/CONVERSION: Straight out of the box, Perry wraiths.

PAINTING: Simple paint job. Just like the rest of my etherial stuff. Codex gray dry brushed with mixes of fortress grey and skull white. Job done.

BASING: Gritty sand, bestial brown highlighted with snakebite leather and bleached bone mixes with static grass applied to finish them off.

STILL TO DO: These are done. Except I was going to do glowing eyes and forgot! (I have a movemnt tray planned to give the unit some more impact as they lack the unit fillers some of the other units have).

HIGHS AND LOWS: Really quick to paint. The wraiths and banshaees seem to work well together. No Lows.

POINTS: Can't tell you I'm affraid but its well over the 200 points required.

DAEMONIC LEGION (KHORNE)

I have done a ‘hastings’ and am painting a greater deamon to spread the painting of one mini over three months. I just thought it would give me a bit of breathing space over the holiday period.

UNIT: Bloodthirster.

BACKGROUND/THEME: Vanilla Deamonic Legion of Khorne.

BUILD/CONVERSION: This is a very early citadel Balrog from the 1980’s

PAINTING: Just like everything else in this army …. He was painted blood red all over then given an ink wash (or two) with a mix of red and purple ink. I have then painted back up several layers of highlights. Claws, horns and fur painted black. Ready fro dry brushing.

BASING: Not really got into this yet but I am taking the themed bases even further with this model. He will be charging along a river of lava when it gets done.

HIGHS AND LOWS: Really looking forward to painting this guy and adding the center piece to the army. High : Getting a break from trying to finish 5 units each month. Lows : Still not getting my painting done in time despite this!

STILL TO DO: Lots

POINTS: First 400 points of 600 points for a Greater Deamon.

I have made some progress on him but no new photos. I will get them up as WIP this month.

Very nice work all round; I particularly like the dwarf lord, despite the (spposedly) rushed paint job.
Great wraiths too; that VC army is looking fantastic, and I think the basing has a gue amount to do with that:).
Out of interest, has any of the rest of the army been done with the new points values? :p

Hespithe's Bloodbulls of Khaarg

UNIT(S):
Khaarg the Immaculate - General, Doombull
3x 4 Bloodbulls w/ Great Weapons
3x 8 Chaos Hounds (Spiders)
1x 8 Chaos Furies

BACKGROUND/THEME:
Imagine an Ogre Kingdoms Tribe that has forsworn its fealty and devotion to The Maw in favor of a deity that promises more satisfaction on all levels than The Maw has ever provided. The Tribe has gone over to Khorne, and as is the norm for Chaos in all of its malevolent forms, such malevolent forms appear within the bodies of its worshipers, the Doombull more than most. Such mutation and fanaticism would boost the abilities of the typical Ogre substantially. The army uses the Beastmen rules set.

BUILD/CONVERSION:
Khaarg is based off of the Ogre Tyrant metal body, and keeps the weapon options found within that kit. The shield and gut-plate are scavenged from the 40K Chaos Defiler sprues. The flaming mane and hooves (and leg warmers) are greenstuff. It took quite a bit of cutting, griping, and bleeding before I was finally satisfied (convinced it wasn't gonna get any better) with the model.

The Bloodbulls are based from Ogre Kingdoms Bull Ogres with just a few tweaks and an intense Khornate Red paint scheme. I'm hoping that not too many people have trouble recognizing these guys as Khornate Minotaur Wannabes, but I expect a little flak none the less.

The Spiders were a trip. I was initially looking for a few BfSP boxed set spiders but was unable to find enough. A friend tipped me off to a local party supply store that had bags of spiders that should be about the right size. Best tip yet.

The Furies are Ral Partha Gargoyles. I've always liked these better than the GW Furies. I also use them as a Harpy Warband when playing Mordheim.

PAINTING:
I'm hoping that all of the models will satisfactorily fit the Chaos Ogre theme. Skin tones will be Khornate Red, and most other colors will be darker to emphasize the flesh tones.

BASING:
Fairly typical, in order to match the gaming terrain we use most often. Sand, painted in earthy browns, and then flocked is pretty much the norm.

STILL TO DO:
Next, Exalted Daemon and 16 more Bloodbulls.

POINTS:
Doombull - General, Hellfire 'Mace', Heavy Armour, Shield - 304pts
3x 4 Bloodbulls w/ Great Weapons - 687
3x 8 Spiders - 144pts
1x 8 Furies - 120pts

Total: 1255 pts thus far...

Oh, it was all rushed. I didn't start painting till the 27th this month and I had to be finished by the afternoon of new years eve. As I knew I would not get much done after that! (Its hard trying to paint lying down in a darkened room :D)

Thats why I went with a couple of single characters, a work on the greater deamon and the smallest undead unit I could come up with. I shall takle a few bigger units this month.

No, I am still working on the current points. How could I possibly know the new points values? The new book is not released for months yet. :D

@Hespithe
I love these guys. Wonderful theme, great conversions, nice bases, fantastic use of cheap rubber spiders. Whats not to love.

If I had to change one small thing I would have gone with a brighter red on the furies and I would still add some brighter red markings to the spieders. They just look a little flat compared to the wonderful, dramatic skin tone of the ogres. I think it would help tie those units into the theme of the army a little. (But this is a small thing. I really like this army).

 that really hurts....

.....only 'cause its true :D

Well hopefully ill get fully back on track, y'see when you have a full time job.....and a missus thats demanding for my time its hard to find time to actually paint.

As for this month ive decided that out of the four units thats ive painted all but one is a ranged unit, so alas i need some brute strength which is coming in the form of a unit of 5 knights and 4 ironguts (which i had lying around the place like a bunch of ogre groupies) so that should be at least 300 points if not closer to the 400 mark so, god willing, ill catch up.

If not ill lurk.

Whichever seems easier.

Harry, have you considered making a paper banner for that Dwarf of yours? He looks a little incomplete without one. I'd personally keep the banner, but most people clip the banner pole off these days, and argueably for good reason.

Considered it but I am thinking of going with something a little more solid to be more in keeping with the 'current' Dwarf standards. I left it untouched for know as I had not decided exactly what to do with it.

Well guys, I must excuse me but last month has been hectic for me. I got struck by real life syndrom and the time I had free I opted to play games.

So I must use my first joker. But I will make up for this I will try to paint 400pts this month so I still have a 2400pts army when finished.

@Dino. Sorry I took the first post from you, Ill try not to do it again! :) As always great looking army, shaping up to be a big force! Oh and I think Im going to start on my Dragon this month, or maybe some chariots.

@Arhalien. Your army is fast becoming one of my favs. Looking forward to seeing more!

@Net Guru. Good to see some more of your stuff! I want to see more!

@Harry. Looking good as always! After looking at your stuff took me back to my early hobby days. The old plastic dwarf warriors were some of the first models I bought!

@Hespithe. Liking these more and more. Had a thought for a Hunter. Instead of the normal sabre cats, you could use the old Arbal the Undefeated flesh hound.

@Deadorc. Ive always thought Lizardmen and orange go well together! Looking very cool!

Keep up the good work guys.

Sorry for the horrible pictures. Shoddy Digital Camera Attack.

Huw Dawson's Dwarven Throng

UNIT(S):
One Runepriest with 3 Runes of Dispel.
One Engineer (Will be with Bolt Thrower A)

BACKGROUND/THEME:
Sadly, nothing out of the ordinary. My "theme" is an overall colourscheme of crimson and blue-grey.

BUILD/CONVERSION:
The Runepriest was straight out of the box, tabs clipped and mounted on slate.

The Engineer (Malaki Maliksonn) was originally the engineer from the Gobbo-Hewer. The other Engineer will be one of the slayer crew so I can have a little theme.

PAINTING:
The engineer was great fun. Orange beards are so fun to paint. Unfortunatly the runepriest has a very poorly sculpted beard - it simply fails to stick out enough to make drybrushing and inking effective.

BASING:
Slate for the Runepriest (he being a hero, after all)
Snot Green with GW flock for the engineer.

STILL TO DO:
Other than taking better photos...

POINTS: Runepriest Malikkson (In honour of the model the engineer is based off): 149.
Engineer Korrak: 15.

Total: 1170pts.

Hah! Eat that, you silly digital camera! Didn't expect I'd come back with vengance, eh? The pictures are still awful, but at least they're actually usable.

No army shot this month - couldn't get a picture that was in focus. :) I'll grab one next month.

UNIT:
9 Poison Wind Globadiers

BACKGROUND/THEME:
Rats

BUILD/CONVERSION:
Straight from the blisters

PAINTING:
Nothing fancy, just dark angels and highlights. Globes were done with Varnish

BASING:
Green ink and sawdust

STILL TO DO:
3 backpacks

HIGHS: Getting them done in a hectic month
LOWS: Not getting them entirly finished

POINTS:
Around 90. Total of around 1100

@everyone who hasn't posted yet. Where are you all?! Not been slacking have we :p

A combination of things. Not had easy access to the models I need to finish or my paints and brushes has delayed things a bit. I'll try and finish them and post pics on Monday. That'll still be within the first week of the thread starting. :D

All the stuff so far looks good. Congrats guys.

@Huw_Dawson. Like I said about orange & lizards, red & dwarves just go together. Looking good, some brighter pics would be nice tho.

@Knighta. These guys look amazing. Its been so cool watching how peoples painting has improved over the past 6 months (I know mine has!). The globe effects look very cool and the whole army looks very evil! Excellent job!

Alright, time for me to post here too. I haven't managed to finish every little bit quite yet (give me another day, I'll have the minis painted, I swear!).

@jme: Your army is shaping up real good. You have a strong, clean scheme. No fancy techniques really, only very neat and clean painting. I like the bases too. They are simple but I think that they complete the colour scheme very nicely. The polished look on the helmets looks great with the rest of your army. I still think that the clinically clean technique looks a bit off on the mage in close-ups but on the tabletop, he looks good.

@Dino: Woah, your army looks impressive. So many miniatures with their strong colour scheme. Very solid painting as always.

@Arhalien: Is it just me or did your photographing skills improve drastically since the past few months? Those photos look ace, thumbs up. The elves are looking great too. It's scary, but I'm kinda starting to like that scheme.;)

@NetGuru: Good to see you back in action. Somehow, I'm afraid I can't see that much of the actual painting in the pictures but the gun crew looks very neat. Now hurry up and get stuff painted!

@Druchii-Harry: Ah, even more Marauder darkelfy goodness. This assassin is ace, I love his hair. Might I ask how you did the hair? Brown basecoat and straw-blonde drybrush or did you use a wash or some magical trick? I seem to do pretty bad at painting hair. Your whole army is looking impressive; like a crazy, evil zoo. Any plans for the next (=current) month? Maybe a core unit?

@Stunti-Harry: The simpler techniques you used on your Dwarven Lord works very well; here's a man who knows how to get much stuff painted in a reasonable amount of time and to a very good level. I vaguely remembering seeing this miniature in an old White Dwarf. Funny to see how totally different your Dwarfs are compared to your Dark Elves. The Dwarves are almost excusively rank and file; looking impressive the way your took the army shot.

@Undead-Harry: Simple, very well executed and effective again. I think they would look kinda odd if they were the only etherial unit in the army but along with their translucent brethen and sisters (and coach), they make a very cool aspect of your army.

@Demonic-Harry from Hell: I have to admit that I don't see much difference to how I remember this guy looking last month but I'm sure you have done a brushstroke or two.;)

@Hespithe: You made a good choice in spiders. The BfSP ones look too uniform and have too awkward poses (due to making them fit on a cav base) to look good as a swarm. What rules are you going to use for those spiders?

@Dead Orc: As Arhalien said; nice-looking mounts indeed. The choice of colour for the metallics is unusual for Lizardmen but it allows you to go for orange Saurus (which looks very cool). Now get them finished already!;)

@Huw_Dawson: Sorry mate, can't see much in those pictures but from what I see, I think you did a very good job.

@Knighta: Looking good; this effect on the globes looks terrific to be precise. I'm still having problems with the bases though; the sawdust looks like....well, it makes the army look like it's sitting in a ratcage. ;D

Looking forward to seeing more of your stuff, guys!

Gotsome pics of December's efforts (or rather lack of in the case of 2 of the models...).

UNITS: 4 Ironguts

BUILD/CONVERSION: Straight from box. Fancy stuff is being saved for the characters and Maneaters.

PAINTING: A little more effort went into the first 2 Ironguts compared to the rest of my units. The other 2 Ironguts suck.

BASING: Sand. Paint Scorched Brown. Drybrush Codex Grey. Drybrush a couple of areas with Graveyard Earth. Add Scorched Grass and drybrush Kommando Khaki.

STILL TO DO: Neaten them up when I have time.

HIGHS AND LOWS: Got the first 2 finished really early then lost motivation to do the other 2.

POINTS: 192

TOTAL POINTS : 1213

You may wish to take the photography comment back if you see my HE log ;)
You're growing to like the scheme?! My one objective is now clear; get Sigur to admit to liking models that dont have red or purple on them :p

@Catferret: good to see you've got your stuff painted this month! The first two are excellent, and the second two, despite what you say, really donm;t look that bad to me; better than what I could do anyway ;)

Feedback time! Sorry I didn't do it sooner, my PC just went crazy...

jme: I love the glossy black armour. It really grabs attention. Nice crisp whites and pinks too.

Dino: Excellent work as always. Speed never seems to reduce your quality. Keep it up.

Arhalien: Wood Elves look awesome in grey. Nice change from the usual greens. Almost LotR-ish in fact. I like.

Netguru: Excellent highlighting on the black and great clean white. Nice job.

Harry: Assassin looks ace. Reminds me of some one but can't place it.
Burlok used to be a favourite model and character of mine. Nice to see folk still using him.
Undead are great as always. Still my favourite of your armies.
Has there been any progress on the Thirster? Either way it looks cool.

Hespithe: Great colour choice. Very eye-catching and great to see the plastic ogres with some variation!

Dead Orc: Love the contrast between the Skinks and Cold Ones.

Huw_Dawson: Fuzzy pics but stunties are fuzzy too! Still look good though. Keep it up.

To all: Congrats on yet another completed month and reaching the halfway stage. Good luck with stage 2!

EDIT: Sorry Knighta, I missed you! The Skaven look great. A consistent quality across that many models is hard to achieve. Congrats.

Hurrah and rejoice, for this time round I have pictures! Managed to borrow another camera, though am not used to it (hence the lower pic quality)

My painting for December: Guld the Greedy, Bucther with a Bangstick, Dispel Scroll and two Tooth Gnoblars = 190pts

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v133/zarkthedamned/Miniatures/Brassbelly%20Ogres/2007-12-guld-front.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v133/zarkthedamned/Miniatures/Brassbelly%20Ogres/2007-12-guld-back.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v133/zarkthedamned/Miniatures/Brassbelly%20Ogres/2007-12-guld-side.jpg

And an especially crappy overall army pic (meh, it's all in the other threads anyway, this is mostly for size of army)

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v133/zarkthedamned/Miniatures/Brassbelly%20Ogres/2007-12-army-shot.jpg

In total so far (if I remember my points values correctly):
Tyrant Orgath Dragoneater (200 - equipment varies)
Butcher Guld the Greedy (190, as above)
3 Maneaters with Heavy Armour, 2x Great Weapons, 1x Brace of Handguns (270)
3 Leadbelchers with Bellower (175)
4 Ironguts with Full Command (232)
1 Joker (0)

Total: 1,067

This month I will hopefully be getting some work done on my Rhinox Riders - they weigh in around 500 points so I have a fair amount of time. I have already done some Gorgers (will post later) for January (technically my Butcher was done in November but I had camera fail problems)

And here are my Gorgers for January - http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v133/zarkthedamned/Miniatures/Brassbelly%20Ogres/2008-01-gorgers-front.jpg

And some comments-
jme - nice work on the conversions so far, interesting colour scheme well executed.
Dino - good looking Empire there - I like the Hellblaster Rocket conversion, good use of the spare Hellblaster bits.
Arhalien - I like those Wood Elves, the dark colour scheme works really well, gives them a sinister undertone - far more 'don't go into the woods' than GW's bright green tree hippies.
NetGuru - Very clean work on the white uniforms of the Cannon crew, and a good looking force all round. Though I expect those uniforms won't be white for long :D
Harry - as always, excellent work. The Wraiths in particular are looking very ghostly, and neat work on the Engineer and Marauder Dark Elf. Can't really comment on the Daemon till it's done, but the red is looking great so far.
Hespithe - again, a great batch of Ogres - they really look like they bathe in blood - alwthough I must admi, the use of musical horns as actual horns seems a little odd and out of place (guy on the left in particular)
Dead orc - those Cold Ones are looking good, can't wait to see the unit finished. The orange contrast will be striking to say the least.
Huw_dawson - I know what it's like when camreas attack - but the minis look neat enough in them. Hope you get better shots sorted out so I can get a closer look.
Knighta - excellent Skaven - the green looks to be very vibrant without being too bright and garish. The poison globes are well executed also.
Catferret - excellent Ogres as always - puts mine to shame :(

Ok got somerthing done for this month. Sadly Pictures are getting steadily worse. Might replace them later down the line if not destracted. Which is likely.

UNIT: 25 Orc Boyz with Full Command and Extra Choppas = 205pts

BACKGROUND: Krunch's Choppa Crew are amoungest the Least Subtle of Blackfangs troops, which is saying something. They have a regular insulting rivalry with the other Orc Mobs in the army whho they claim "'ide Behind doz stoopid wooden sheilds coz dey is cowardly ladz. A nuvver 'and is fer a 'nuvver Choppa. Like Gork intended!" Of course their quiet worring casulty record gives those more cautious boys plenty of ammo in return. Still plenty more where they came from.

BUILDING/CONVERSION: Majourity of the Unit is from last editions boxed game. Only the standard bearer is converted, using an orc Spear arm to lift the Banner higher and prouder.

PAINTING: after a few experimenst I used the same Skin I used on my Gobbos. I also added Snakebite leather to my palette to break up some of the much larger model.

BASING: Not done sadly

TOTAL POINTS: 1020

STILL TO DO: Basing

HIGHS AND LOWS: This unit was actually a bit of a slog. Blame the season though.

Ugh I don't think I got any painting done this month, which is quite sad.

I think thats me out then, as it would be my 3rd joker I think?

To be honest I have completely lost track of where I am at since the festive season and I'm not sure whether January will be any better :(

Anyway, whatever happens I'll at least post up the wip pic I took of the Swordmasters I was working on many moons ago... and if I get the chance I'll do it tonight.

Cheers.

P.S. everything is looking awesome this month - I don't know if those slave girls know what they are in for though... ;)

So finally got some usuable pics

UNITS: 5 Executioners

BUILD/CONVERSION: Straight from blister

PAINTING: Nothing special, boltgun metal and a laquer black armour (chaos black then gloss varnish).

BASING: Snow, for some reason none of the bases for the executioners have turned out any good so I will have to redo the lot at some point when I get time

STILL TO DO: Redo the bases.

HIGH: Only having to paint 5 models for the month :D.

LOW: Having the bases turn out so poor, and yet again having **** poor pics

POINTS: 55

TOTAL POINTS : 1195

Now for the pics:

Now for some comments:

@ jme: Very nice looking Dark riders, though I have to say I'm not a fan of the flock going right up to the hooves on the raised legs, I cut those parts of the model off on my Dark Riders (also made using glade riders)

@ Dino: your empire is looking really good

@ Arhalien: I'm really liking your WE, particularily the dark subdued scheme

@ NetGuru: The cannon crew look fantastic, the white clothes are done brilliantly

@ Harry:
DE: looking good, but that army has to be getting on the heavy side based on all those rocks doesnt it?
Dwarves: Burlock Damminson looks great
VC: Really like those wraiths, I have to say this army would have to be one of my favourites in the whole TOFP
Daemons: Not much to comment as as they are the same pics as last month, but still looking good

@ Hespithe: The Bloodbulls look really good

@ Dead Orc: Bah, even your bad pics are better than mine, Lizardmen are looking really good too

@ Huw_Dawson: Looking good, may we both have better luck with photos next month!

@ Knighta: Really like the effect on the globes

@ Catferret: Don't see what your going on about with the second two looking not as good as the first two, all look the same great quality to me

@ Zark the Damned: Very interesting 'tooth gnoblars' I must say, and is he standing on a flying carpet? The gorgers look good too, squigs for heads on rat ogre bodies?

@ Ad-Hoc: Looking good, atleast I'm not the only person who is getting steadily worse with their pictures every month

This month I should be painting up my last 5 Cold One Knights, and then find 50pts of something else to paint up

Beastlord Rakarth's Hunting Party (work in progress name)

Hehe, again I'm late and it's getting later each month. Anyway, I have the December stuff finished!

UNITS:
- Highborn Beastlord Rakarth and Bracchus
- 5 Cold One Knights
- 5 Dark Riders with repeating corssbows and Musician
- 10 Executioners of Har Ganeth
- 6 Shades
- 12 DE Warriors with RxB and shields (musician)
[- 12 DE Warriors with RxB and shields (musician)]*
[- 20 DE Warriors with Spears and shields (full command)]
[- 1 Cold One Chariot]
[- Sorceress on Foot]
[- Sorceress on Foot]

*[...] = painted before the start of the TOFP

this month:
- 12 DE Warriors armed with repeating crossbows and shields including musician
- DE Executioners of Har Ganeth Command Group (note the absolutely black banner of dread and doom)

BACKGROUND/THEME:
*is inventive* Real evil elves hunting for slaves and fun.

BUILD/CONVERSION:
Nothing at all. I did one little conversion on the RxB elves, giving one of them a "yes, headshot"-pose, representing that out of any RxB-armed units I field, only one model kills anything every game. The conversion basically consists of chopping up and repositioning the right arm as well as resculpting a few fingers afterwards.

PAINTING:
The first week of december went very well, then tests came up. Around christmas, I was distracted with commission work for two weeks. After that I got back to painting druchii a few days ago but it still didn't go as well as planned.

Paintingwise, I also did no great experiments. Basic purple-and-metallics on the RxB dudes, some yummy red-layering on the Executioners (the top of the banner pole and the champion's cloak mainly.

BASING:
Look, it's grey rubble! Awesome! I need to add snow later on.

STILL TO DO:
Quite a lot, as you might see in the pictures. Snow on the bases, highlighting on the shields of the RxB elves, finishing touches on the red rims on the Executioner armour, a banner, two little details on the swords and - last but not least - I have to turn the musician's formidable handle into an actual sword. The good news: I finally ordered the blade last saturday.

POINTS:
-Highborn Beastlord Rakarth and Bracchus - between 470 and 550 really, depending on the equipment)
- "Hunter" Noble on Dark Pegasus - 175
- 5 Cold One Knights - 145
- 5 Dark Riders with RxB (including musician) - 127
- 13 Executioners of Har Ganeth (including full command) - 173
- 6 Shades - 84
- 6 Harpies - 78
- 12 RxB Warriors with shields (including musucian) - 149

Total: 931 + 470pts for Rakarth = 1401pts

@Catferret: Nice-looking ogres again. I think they lack one more colour but ...you know, that's good old me.

@Zark the Damned: Hehe, I like that one. The whole concept is looking very good, including the flying carpet and the booblies and all that.:p Makes him look mighty and more impressive than usual Ogre miniatures which generally are more in the "dumb, savage monster"-corner of things. Your new stuff also looks great so far. Very imaginative conversions.

@Ad-Hoc: Well....those are some darned black black orcs, aren't they?

@Doi: Those dark elves do their name justice.;) It's not easy to see in the pictures (I always find it a paint to take pictures of miniatures not ranked up but in "lose formation".)

Me, I have no idea what to paint for January. Maybe a Cauldron, maybe a Character, maybe a Cold One chariot. Not sure if I'll find much time to paint until the end of the month though as it's semester's end with all the exams and stuff.

Right folks, I'm just popping in to say hello. I still haven't finished my entry (yes, that's the 8 models that were suppose to be done for November's entry!) but I hope to soon. Unfortunately I've just lost all my enthusiasm for painting at the moment & I don't know why. Always seems to happen, i'll go months when i'll do quite a bit of painting & then go months without wanting to paint a thing like is happening at the moment. Obviously I need to try & sort this out as I do want to stay in the TOFP so hopefully you'll see some stuff from me by this weekend. I will be back soon to comment on everybody elses stuff.

Ive finished my entry and will try to get the photos up tommorrow, weekend at the latest.

Unfortunatly im putting the giant on hold for a few months, i did start to paint it but i soon realised that it was going to be a bigger job than i first realised, especially over xmas and new year. So instead ive painted my General and a cannon.

@JME
Fanatastic Dark riders/reavers, love the conversions and the army as a whole is amazingly done.

@Dino
Still loving the empire, the bold bright blue really makes the army stand out. The simple yet effective rocket conversion is brilliant, thats actually what i would think as a genuine rocket launcer anyway not the WW2 style one that GW makes.

@Arhalien
Brilliant work as always, i never really like black/grey for woodelves but you have done a great job.

@NetGuru
The pictures are a little bit blurry but the one model on the cannon crew thats in focus is looking great, presuming all your models are painted that good then you have a brilliantly painted army.

@Harry
The vintage dark elves are as fantastic as usual, i wouldnt have thought to use that as an assassin though, but with the other models you have he will fit in well.

The dwarf is fantastic, ive always loved that model. Plus i never commented last month as you were late posting and ive been off warseer over xmas but is that santa dwarf a real model or a conversion becuase ive never seen it before?

Im loving the vampire counts, im looking forward to seeing your army being built, as a former rumor merchant the next 3 months could be an insight into the new vampires. You dont normally dissappoint with rumors and the etherial black coach and wraith unit are sounding great, plus if even half the rumors ive read elswhere turn out to be true then im gonna be very happy. Ive got almost 3000 points of vampire sitting unpainted and unloved ready to be resurrected (ahem) in march.

Not much to say about the daemons, still painting the same unit from last month, its looking good so far though, its a lot bigger than i was expecting.

@Hespithe
Great looking army, the spiders are such a good idea and fit in with the ogre theme more than wolves would, the red seems a little bit bright but that may be the lighting.

@Dead orc
Nice looking lizardmen, they will look even better when finished, orange lizards are cool.

@Huw_Dawson
I think your camera is still little drunk from new year. Good looking dwarves, well malaki is, the rune priest is a little hard to make out with the bad focus.

@Knighta
Nice bold skaven as usual and im convinced you are using ground parsley as your basing material.

@Catferret
Awesome ogres like always, the blue is great and the skin is even better. Had any ideas for the tattoos yet?

@Zark the Damned
Nice looking ogre butcher, and even nicer looking :p gnoblars. I like the idea of the magic carpet, although god only knows how it can get of the ground.

@Ad-Hoc
The photos are very dark so its hard to see the models properly, but from what i can see they are looking very nice.

@Doi
Once again a blurry photo, did i miss a memo or somehting about all this months photos having to be out of focus ;) but seriously the executioners look fantastic, simple paint job done well, plus your bases are good as always even if you dont think so yourself.

@sigur
Fantastic as usual, the red and gold really makes the executioners stand out as elites, once the bases are done they will look even better.

Well thats a whole lot of comments from me, its only the 9th and already almost everyone has posted their photos. I thought i was going to be early this month but it seems everyone else was even earlier. My photos will be up in a day or so.

Great work everyone. Damn what a long post :D

Zark: Gotta love nekkid wimmins. :D Nice idea. And you say they give +1 to cast? Rather than distracting him? Cool flying carpet as well. Nice touch.

Doi: You, Harry and Sigur are to blame for my next army after the Oggies are finished. I needs me some evil elves. Nice work on them, purple and black looks great. Good work.

Sigur: The quality on your infantry is incredible! Wish I had the talent and motivation to paint all my models to that level. The bases seem a little plain in comparison, maybe a little dead grass somewhere for interest?

And yes, I know I need another colour but can't decide what. I wanted to avoid the arms dunked in blood thing typical of ogres but am lacking inspiration.

Tarsus and Jonahmaul: Tsk tsk. The wait had better be worth it! :p

Hmm, bit worried about this month atm. I have a Fives match this saturday, and depending on whether I make the first IV or not I'll have a match next saturday too, meaning that I'm not going to be able to get into GW for some time to buy the wardanceer noble and command I need for this month. Even if I do manage to buy them this month is ludicrously hectic atm; Play next week, play in a couple of weeks time, house drama to arrange for the 27th of February, Hitory essay for tomorrow, English presentation saturday.

Here we go again :(

Sure it'll work out ok Arhalien. You keep saying you're never going to post then pull off some awesome work last minute.

Right, this month I can do 2 Irongut Standard Bearers and be slightly under points, or I could also do the first Maneater and then be way over.

I'll see what I can finish by the end of January.

Thanks Catferret; nice to know someone has confidence in me ;) It's quite a light month in terms of wood elf painting for me (heavy in terms of High Elf painting for the Band of Brothers on the Ammobunker) so I should manage :)

THE TALE OF FANTASY PAINTERS : MONTH SIX.

Hello, fellow painters.

Happy New year.

Saulot : Orcs and Goblins : 3 Months painting : 1 joker

So sorry for not being too active in these parts the past month or two. You know the drill-- work, family, yadda yadda yadda.

Good news is, I'm back on the saddle and ready to ride this thing to completion. I'll be able to post an update of my little waagh! by the weekend.

Until then, I shame in your presence. :p

(Quick shout out to jme, Harry, Doi, and sigur-- I'm primarily a Druchii and your respective stuff is blowing my mind! Very nice to see such characterful armies shaping up right before my eyes!)

Thanks for the comments, Tarsus and Catferret. Cheers! ;)

I needs me some evil elves. Nice work on them, purple and black looks great.

I hope you don't use this scheme for your evil elves too. Purple and black are nice but they need some pepping up with reds, browns, oranges, greens and blue!:D

Sigur: The quality on your infantry is incredible! Wish I had the talent and motivation to paint all my models to that level. The bases seem a little plain in comparison, maybe a little dead grass somewhere for interest?

As I wrote in my posting, I'll add patches of snow and maybe some dead grass as on the other DE but I just didn't have the time this month.

P.S.: They kicked you out of the guild? Who's going to run the Word Association thread now?:eyebrows::p

I may or may not have anything to paint this month...

So I thought I'd spoil you and put up some pictures of my army that were shoddy when first took, and some stuff your not going to see in this event as valid mini's to post up.

My entire army at the moment:

My BSB (Thanks to SilverStu for giving me this! This model is possibly the hardest dwarf I've painted, and I didn't get a banner so I've been having banner troubles with him.)

Just checking how the other half are doing - though of course you're still more than half of the Tale. I don't have time to comment on everyone's work but it's great to see the whole thing is still going strong after six months! Still 35 or so of us guys.

Keep up the good work!

Oh, and if anyone's at all interested we (fives team) got well and truly slaughtered on saturday, and we expect the same to happen in the match tomorrow ;)

Work has been hectic and still is but at least to a lesser extent and I don't want to play my last joker- feels like I'd be giving up. thanks in advance for your continued indulgence.
@Huw- glad to see you got the little fella painted, sorry I didn't have a spare banner top mate.

Hi, and welcome to warseer!

I'm not sure how Harry is handling such requests. I think, according to the rules, people sign up at the beginning and then no new participants may join until the next round (after 10 months). What you can always do is joining the lovely people of the Warseer Painting Support Group in M,P&T General discussions. It works pretty much the same way as the tale of [manymany] painters but without the "200pts a month" regulation.

Looks awesome. The fire below the cauldron is aces, as is the blood. I love the shade of red you achieved on the wing thingies on the front of the cart too.

As for me, I started painting a Maneater today. Finished converting both my Butchers too. What a productive day. :) No pics though. My flatmate has just gone on holiday and taken the camera with him.

Hello everybody. As some of you might remember I started off the tale of Fantasy Painters with a Nuln army. I posted my work the first month and disappeared after that. The reason is that I’ve had serious health problems regarding a nasty traffic accident and contracting pneumonia at the hospital, not a nice combo. Now that I’m back home and feeling much better I’m following your work and it’s incredible. Congratulations everybody.

Though I can’t jump back into the TOFP, I’ll open my own thread as soon as my wrist gets better and I can start painting again.

Regards and sorry for dropping out with no notice.

A dwarven pillar box, with a organ gun converted to look like a mini gun?

Arhalien
18-01-2008, 15:05
Right, unless something goes particularly wrong (ie, another team member isn;t there tomorrow) I won;t be playing in the match tomorrow; we're playing against the Rugby Fives Association (rough equivalent of the MCC ;)) so they're an entirely adult team; we're therefore fielding an upper sixth former instead who plays squash (is still better than me though ;)).

The point of this rambling is that I'll be able to get into GW tomorrow to buy my stuff for this month. At this point we reach a problem.
I was originally going topaint a wardancer noble and a wardancer command group, but I'm planning to order some old silver helm pieces tomorrow for a future conversion (in case the pieces are culled along with the other bits) so I was thinking therefore I could order the other stuff that needs ordering for this army; BSB and the 10th waywatcher. While I would buy the other 3 waywatchers in a blister it would still mean that almost 2/3 of my painting for this month wouldn;t be arriving until next weekend, and I;m worried that that may not be enough time.

So, erm,l sorry for the long post, but does anyone have any advice on that, or any particular preferences on what I should paint?

jme
19-01-2008, 02:02
So do you not have the wardancer noble and command yet? Im sure no one would mind if you only painted 100pts or so this month (the 3 waywatchers), and 300pts next month (all the wardancers and noble). Tho I must say Im looking forward to seeing your wardancers.

Arhalien
19-01-2008, 11:55
No; not yet. I think that maybe the BSB may be better to get as i should be able to paint it faster; less flesh, and with the waywatchers I already know how to go about painting each area; I don;t have that advantage on the wardancers and so it would take a bit longer.

Great work everyone... expect a lengthier post in a few days, just wanted to let everyone know I haven't forgotten about you all :) ... December and January's work is completed but having been in New-York for the whole of January and therefore about 3500 miles from my beastmen I am finding posting pics rather difficult. I will rectify the situation once long-island runs out of iced-tea... been here 3 weeks now so they can't have that much left ;)

Arhalien
23-01-2008, 11:11
Right; taking Armos' post as an excuse to post this ;)
I decided to buy the waywatchers and bsb for this month on Saturday; the BSB was out of stock by 1, so hooefully it should arrive this saturday. The waywatcher blister I bought has been assembled, but I haven;t got around to spraying them yet.

I should make it.... hopefully.

I am a little behind schedule... I have finished a Maneater but not started on either Irongut Standard Bearer. This is mainly due to work on a commision modelling project for somebody and the GS work is heavily cutting into my time. I also blame mounting enthusiasm for Gorkamorka.

I finished one of the 2 standard bearers today as well as starting the next one. Hopefully I can finish him in the next day or 2. Either way, I still have enough to post in the February thread and only be a little short at worst.

I start a new job on Monday which will heavily cut into my painting time as I can't paint at home due to crappy lighting. I should still be able to meet target though because I sensibly left characters til near the end. I can just paint one Butcher a month for the next coupla months and then 2 Maneaters for the final submission. Still got 2 Jokers to play with though...

Arhalien
24-01-2008, 23:31

I didn't like the original pose and wanted him to be leaping into the enemies ranks: so he's not daft, he's brave :D

Well, I got this month's submission done. And probably enough for the entire rest of the project!

Basically I entered the Yorkshire Open WHFB Tourney (Leeds Heat) with my Ogres - this Tourney was on Sunday. I decided to enter it on the Monday before. Cue one mental week of painting to get the entire army ready! (Monday was writing the list, Tuesday was assembling guys and converting characters, Wednesday was spray undercoating, Thursday was neatening up the undercoat and the first unit, Friday and Saturday were painting and basing the rest).

In total, 9 Ironguts, 2 Bulls (I stole the last from my original unit), 9 Trappers and 2 Butchers.

So, this month's submission will be the Gorgers and my Trappers (pics to come).

Did well at the tourney, came around 5th (iirc, can't remember the exact results but was around halfway in the top 10 - thus qualifying for the finals in March) and came out with Best Sportsmanship award to boot!

Was a grand win for Ogres in general - both Corai and Wildcard from the Ogre Stronghold also placed in the top 10, and both won awards (Wildcard Best General, Corai Best Army)

I assembled my dwarf warriors unit, but when I came to moving them to my painting table, dropped about 4 on the floor. I gathered them back up, plonked them on the painting table, started drybrushing... then discovered I was missing 3. :o I went on a mad hunt for the missing three dwarves, found two, thought "eh, I have a spare Dwarf from my Longbeards anyway" carry on drybrushing...

Then it suddenly hits me that the missing model is my standard bearer, who is sitting under my lamp fully painted.

i've been having lots of troubles with work and time constraints, and haven't been able to post up last months (and tbh probably won't be able to this month).
But i'm still in!
By the end of month 8 (7 and 8 are a 385 point unit) i will have roughly 1200 as i have used two jokers.

General of the Empire: 216
Warrior Priest:148
Battle Wizard: 150
21 Handgunners: 193
5 Crossbows: 40
15 Knights: 385 (+50 points of banner- undecided)

Which is between 1132 and 1182 for the end of next month.
from mid feb onwards i should be back to being able to post pics and such

Firstly may I just apologise for not having been around much this month. Things have gone from bad to worse at work. I have been popping in to see how everyone is getting on. (But have not found the time to post). Lets see if I can do some catching up.

Well guys, I must excuse me but last month has been hectic for me. I got struck by real life syndrom and the time I had free I opted to play games.

So I must use my first joker. But I will make up for this I will try to paint 400pts this month so I still have a 2400pts army when finished.

If this plan worked out this month post your 40 points and I will change the joker to another months painting.

@Dead orc.
Three colours and based FTW.
Still liking the orange. Look forward to seeing this unit all done.

Congrats on passing the driving test. Nice one. Got a car yet?

@Harry. Looking good as always! After looking at your stuff took me back to my early hobby days. The old plastic dwarf warriors were some of the first models I bought!
Youngster. :D
I hated those Dwarf models when I first saw them but I really like them now.

Sorry for the horrible pictures. Shoddy Digital Camera Attack.

@Demonic-Harry from Hell: I have to admit that I don't see much difference to how I remember this guy looking last month but I'm sure you have done a brushstroke or two.

Dark elf hair... Snakebite leather then snake bite leather mixed with increasing ammounts of Bleached bone. Skull white in the final mix.
Yes the beasts theme of Karond Kar really starting to come through.
Thinking of doing cold One knights next to add too the 'zoo theme'.

The Dwarfs are quite a contrast. Another block of troops for this month on the way. Miners!

No difference at all. Same photos! didn't have time to take any. Sorry.
I had doen a couple of brush strokes ... have done a couple more brush strokes this month too.

Hey guys on the fantasy side of this. I am from the 40k side of things just dropping by the say heya. It seems (unless I missed someone) that Harry and myself are the only ones crazy enough to be doing multiple armies.
I was clearly a bit tooo crazy. I have had to drop one of my armies from this side and as you have probably realised I dropped out of the 40K side after only a couple of months. I must swing by and see how everyone is doing over there.

Gotsome pics of December's efforts
Usual high standard.
Army shot looking great.

Kurt Russel escape from New York? Rooster Cogburn?
Burlock still going strong.
Mine too.
Not in photos but theres been a bit since.

My painting for December: Guld the Greedy, Bucther with a Bangstick,
Mmmmm. Frisky. Great model. Love the concept really characterful addition to the army.
Love the Gorgers. another brilliant idea. Great fun.

Harry - as always, excellent work. The Wraiths in particular are looking very ghostly, and neat work on the Engineer and Marauder Dark Elf. Can't really comment on the Daemon till it's done, but the red is looking great so far.
Cheers.

Ok got somerthing done for this month. Sadly Pictures are getting steadily worse.
LOL you have come to the right place. this is cr@p photo's central. :D

The boyz look great.

Harry:- Always a pleasure to see the Classic models. Especially done to such a high standard
Cheers.

I think thats me out then, as it would be my 3rd joker I think?

To be honest I have completely lost track of where I am
Me too. :D
If you were to pitch up with over 1000 points on next month thread I don't suppose anyone will ask too many questions. ill leave your name in the list for now shall I?

So finally got some usuable pics

UNITS: 5 Executioners

@ Harry:
DE: looking good, but that army has to be getting on the heavy side based on all those rocks doesnt it?
Dwarves: Burlock Damminson looks great
VC: Really like those wraiths, I have to say this army would have to be one of my favourites in the whole TOFP

Executioners looking suitably 'dark and sinister'.
Army as a whole looking as cool as you like.

Thanks.
My DE built for 'home' games only.
VC my favorites too.

[SIZE="5"]Beastlord Rakarth's Hunting Party

this month:
- 12 DE Warriors armed with repeating crossbows and shields including musician
- DE Executioners of Har Ganeth Command Group (note the absolutely black banner of dread and doom)
Looking great as always and what a colourful contrast your executioners make next to to Doi's. (Its all the red! :D)

Is the crossbowman back right corner making an obscene gesture?

@Harry

He actually is/was an Marauder Dark Elf assassin. They did five different ones. I will post the others up sometime.

the Santa Dwarf is a Perry dwarf from the late 1980's. i would have to guess but I think he was a Norse Dwarf. I obviously added the sack of pressies.

Most of the rumours are true and Vampire Counts are going to be hard has hell. (ahem).

Thats what they all say.:D

Doi: You, Harry and Sigur are to blame for my next army after the Oggies are finished. I needs me some evil elves. Nice work on them, purple and black looks great. Good work.
Good Timing. coming soon!

Cheers and nice to have you back.

My BSB (Thanks to SilverStu for giving me this! This model is possibly the hardest dwarf I've painted, and I didn't get a banner so I've been having banner troubles with him.)
http://i190.photobucket.com/albums/z99/Huw_Dawson/BSBFrontNobanner-1.jpg
Great mini. my favorite Dwarf. You have made a really nice start on him.
How come you don't have the banner top?
Have you a solution yet?
I might be able to help.

sorry but this is just the best thread ever
Cheers! :D

Just checking how the other half are doing - though of course you're still more than half of the Tale. I don't have time to comment on everyone's work but it's great to see the whole thing is still going strong after six months! Still 35 or so of us guys.

Keep up the good work!
Thanks for your ongoing supprt sam. I must come and visit you guys. I have been very slack.

Just want to say this is good work all,

Also how long is the tale going to last and is there any plans for a new one ..... I find if I have a reason to paint I can make myself work more.
I hope to do the same thing again next year. it has helped me get loads of stuff painted I simply would not have done had it not been for this thread.

I think we started in June?

If I get 400 points done this month, including finishing off the Swordmasters, do you think I could beg Harry to stay in?
Swordmasters looking great.
I refer you to my earlier post. if you can get back on target ... Your in!

Harry

I would like to know : may I join the tale of Fantasy Painters? I have Empire, Dwarves, O&G and High Elves to paint... Maybe it's too late?
Yup, It is probably a bit late but hopefully we will be doing this all again next year and it does not sound like you are going to run out of stuff to paint any time soon so.... see you in a couple of months.

Hi there fellow fantasy painters, Wonderfull stuff people and keep them coming. Im sorry to say I think I have to leave this great project. I moved in December and it took alot more time than I thought it would take so to sum it up.. I did paint some stuff 7 black orcs and a spear chukka, thats almost 200pts for this month but Ive been digging my own grave.. I have almost only big units of infantary left to do... 2x 20 gobblins 2x20 orcs well I hope you all understand... Its with a heavy heart I have to resign... keep them great minis coming folks!! and it have been a balst
Really sorry to see you out. You have bought agrteat deal of creativity to the party.

Thanks for your answer, Sigur.

I will follow your advice, and take some photos for this thread
My advice is start your own project log. Great fun.

Hello everybody. As some of you might remember I started off the tale of Fantasy Painters with a Nuln army. I posted my work the first month and disappeared after that. The reason is that Ive had serious health problems regarding a nasty traffic accident and contracting pneumonia at the hospital, not a nice combo. Now that Im back home and feeling much better Im following your work and its incredible. Congratulations everybody.

Though I cant jump back into the TOFP, Ill open my own thread as soon as my wrist gets better and I can start painting again.

Regards and sorry for dropping out with no notice.
I was so sorry to read this. hope you are on the road to a full recovery.
Sorry you had to miss out but hopefully you will be restored to painting fitness to join us next year. All the best.

As others have said this is really nice. Your best painting so far I think.

Good to see the event is still going. I wish I could have continued with my project but school and work just got way to busy to handle any personal hobby.

Everyones stuff looks great.
Cheers. sorry you couldn't find the time ... Maybe next year?

Yeah, whenever I say I'm going to Joker just ignore me...
Always have up till now.

Just like Arhaliens "I never going to get this months painting done" posts.

Well, I got this month's submission done. And probably enough for the entire rest of the project!
Nothing like a deadline to 'spur you on". Just don't post it all next month!

Just checking in to say hello & let everyone know i'm still alive. Will post a proper reply later to comment on everybodies stuff. I still haven't got my stuff for December finished let alone think about painting stuff for January due to a general lack of enthusiasm & time but I don't really wanna drop out so i'll try & get my backside in gear soon!
Yes ... you must. :D

i've been having lots of troubles with work and time constraints, and haven't been able to post up last months (and tbh probably won't be able to this month).
But i'm still in!
By the end of month 8 (7 and 8 are a 385 point unit) i will have roughly 1200 as i have used two jokers.

General of the Empire: 216
Warrior Priest:148
Battle Wizard: 150
21 Handgunners: 193
5 Crossbows: 40
15 Knights: 385 (+50 points of banner- undecided)

Which is between 1132 and 1182 for the end of next month.
from mid feb onwards I should be back to being able to post pics and such
All sounds good to me.
Best of luck. Look forward to seeing it all come together.

Well thats me all caught up with everyone. And what an enjoyable read these threads make.
What a nice bunch of chaps you are.

So I better go and do some painting then ... with only 5 days to go before the new thread.
(I have made a start but may have to joker the Dark Elves as things stand).

Quintuplet post ftl, Harry? ;)

I tried every banner that comes with the warriors or thunderers, and none of them worked :\ Hence the iffy ending of the stick. ;)

And I'm intested with what you said about my BSB... PM? :p

Had to take the pics in a hurry so they are not the best, but just wanted to get something up - so it shall do =P

Hey all... back in the UK and straight back into work I'm afraid so only a very quick update from December's work (I am pretending to be using this pic to explain colour-correction to a client which is why I'm getting away with it here)

I have more pics to show but will have to wait till later... If I have time tonight I'll post them but I have a date so I'm kinda hoping I won't :p

comments on everyone else's to come but it all looks great..

Very (VERY) nive Armos, as ever ;)

RIght, I've started on the waywatchers; painted 1 and am WIP on the second. I seem to have got in the speed-painting rut at the moment so quality is down a bit.
I've also decided that I'm probably going to joker this month; I could get the BSB done in time but it would be a rushed job and I want it to be good. It also gives me a bit of a breather next month and a chance to start on march's painting (first wardancer regiment) early, possibly during half term.

Right then folks, as promised I'm back to give some feedback on everyone's work. I'm going to be commenting on each thread as I go along so some of you will get comments in different places sorry.

@ jme - nice looking Elves. I really like the Dark Riders too & the bases really bring the army together.

@ Dino - more nice looking Empire & the army is coming together very well.

@ Arhalien - awesome looking WE mate, they are looking the tits.

@ Netguru - extremely well painted Empire, hope that you can pop on more with updates.

@ Harry - lovely looking DE again. Dwarfs are also looking good although the army shot makes it look like one massive but really long unit of them! As you know I love your VC & this month's effort is no exception. Really like the Greyish look you get out of your etheral stuff. It also looks consistent but different enough to not make them look uniform (hope that makes sense!). GD is coming on nicely but I'll give full comments when that bad boy is finished.

@ Hespithe - more good looking Bulls. Your army looks quite small in the army shot even though it's nails!

@ Dead Orc - nice looking Saurus riders. Orange & Green complement each other really well.

@ Huw Dawson - very shoddy pictures but from what I can make out they look well painted & judging by your previous standard I'm sure they are.

@ Knighta - well done for keeping the horde going! Those globadiers are very good & your standard just from the start of the log to now has improved a great deal. Not sure if this is just because you had less to paint this month but excellent job.

@ Catferret - very nice Ironguts. The army looks very nice all together.

@ Zark - very nice looking Butcher. Really like all the nice little extras on it. Really brings to model together & makes it look like a centre piece. Love the Gorgers. Realy like the Squig faces (don't know if you've seen the Khorne one in Firebase but that's cool as too!)

@ Ad-hoc - very dark pictures but from what I can make out they are looking very nice.

@ Doi - really liking your DE army & this month's effort is no exception.

@ Sigur - some more wonderful DE. The standard of the DE on this thread are all very high & your's are probably my favourite.

@ Huw_Dawson - that army shot is confusing, too much paint on the table!! Now I can see the clear pictures I was right, very nicely painted!

@ Kraxnar, very nice looking swordmasters. Haven't read rest of thread yet but sure nobody would mind you double posting & staying in.

@ sigur - Cauldron looking awesome, can't wait to see it finished.

@ Alex - dude, no need to apologise for anything. I hope that you are on the mend & get better soon. Sounds like you been through a hell of a lot. Hope to see you back here for next years Tale.

@ Dead-Orc, nice looking Scar-Veteran. Your making me want to paint my LM though now & I've got NG to get done!

@ Danny - Hellstrom is coming along very nicely.

@ Armos - beauiful looking Warhounds. What do you do for a living?

Phew, I've finally managed to get round to posting. Sorry everyone I've been so slack the past two months, especially with our numbers dwindling. I'm working nights this week which actually means I've got more time to paint as the missus is in work which means I can watch the wrestling to my hearts content while painting. Yes that's right, I said Wrestling! She watches Neighbours, Coronation Street etc. & I watch Wrestling (actually i usually just listen to it & paint which is why I think my painting has not really got going recently).

So, can someone tell me where we are suppose to be by the end of this month?! Not sure how many posts/points we should have? Think that if I get my stuff posted for this month I'll be 2 months off which I can offset with my two jokers although if I get back into the groove of painting I may double post some months. Also, where's Hastings gone?

Yes, shoddyness into decentness. It took four attempts, mind. ;)

In case you're wondering, I have a friend that quit Wargaming to concentrate on other things (Mostly his DVD collection) and I ended up buying huge hordes of minis and books for 30. Hence the chaos of my desks. Of course, now I want to do every single army I have a book for, something that gets highly annoying when you're painting Dwarven chainskirts...

Thanks Harry; well, it's not an obscene gesture (this isn't the late 80s when miniatures were allowed to do rude gestures after all.)..

...alright, it could be seen as a rude gesture.
