View Full Version : BladeWalkers Slaaneshi Warband Log

05-01-2008, 22:00
I have started a side project to my usual Space Marines and Deamonhunters. I will be using the new Chaos plastic kits (and a few old bits from the bits box) to create a Slaanesh Warband with members of the Flawless Host and Emperors Children. I was originally inspired by the winged Slaanesh Chaos Lord that I threw together and I am following up with a squad of Raptors from the Flawless Host. Wings will be reserved for Sorcerers and Lords, I plan to convert loyalist jump packs for the recently turned renegade Flawless Host Raptors.

Here we have my (nearly finished) Winged Lord that acted as inspiration, I took the picture in morning light since my camera is not the best in hopes of getting a more accurate representation of the color.

Here is the first WIP test model (Champion with Lightning Claws and Icon).

Here is the very much WIP Raptor with Flamer.

Here are the bases for the squad, I was inspired one night and I am pleased with the results on these bases.

Thank you for looking and reading, feedback is welcomed. Stay tuned.

Ok. everything looks like a 3yr old did it all. (although that would have to be a very talented 3 yr old :D )

Seriously these are some very awesome conversions. keep up the good work I will stay subscribed so I can watch how this turns out.

05-01-2008, 22:15
Looks promising so far! Someday I have to start a Slaneeshi army myself.

Looks promising so far! Someday I have to start a Slaneeshi army myself.

I thought about getting alot of the current demons (nude ones) as my wife wants a "titty woman" army.

Yes my wife not me I thought it was funny when she told me I about fell out of my chair.

06-01-2008, 00:37
I will be waiting for the new daemon codex before I add in the daemons. I plan to have 2 squads of Noise Marines for Troops and Obliterators for HS. Thanks for the comments so far, progress has been made. Pics tomorrow.

06-01-2008, 15:59
Here is the still WIP Raptor with Flamer. His tentacle represents his CCW and he will have a holstered bolt pistol. He will also have chaotic embellishments to his armor (and especially his jump pack) before he is done, but here is the raw miniature so far.

06-01-2008, 16:00
Here is the next Raptor WIP, he will be a standard squad member with CCW and BP. More progress on him and others soon. Thanks for looking.

06-01-2008, 17:35
Nice. Just started a small slaaneshi army myself so you started this at exactly the right time. :D

Mr Feral
06-01-2008, 17:51
Damn, the Possessed plastics look good mixed with other sets. My wallet suffers enough as it is. Good conversions, simple yet effective.

06-01-2008, 19:04
Thanks Mr. Feral. :) I am using leftovers from a Spawn box to add to the jump packs in addition to the Possessed. All of the new Chaos boxes go together very nicely, they are so much fun to play with I plan to make my Noise Marines from the new CSM box (with Possessed bits) and mail ordered Sonic weapons. Getting some pictures together now for an update, first weekend I have had in a while to sit and work on miniatures so the squad is coming together fast! Thanks for reading and commenting to all.

06-01-2008, 19:31
Really nice, i like the idea of using the possessed sprue for raptors. I dont know if you have them, but the possessed running legs would look fantastic with the jump packs. The bases also look very nice.

06-01-2008, 19:37
Good prediction Pravis! The rest of the squad have Possessed legs and more dynamic poses. These guys may need a few chains on them... :D

06-01-2008, 20:42
Love that shade of pink and fantastic work with the new plastics, the more I see of them and what folks manage to make the more I recon I'll have to get my hands on some despite loving metal models. Agreed it would be a good idea to pick up some of the current daemonettes before the new dex and plastics come out, be hateful if they go the way of the dodo.

Glad to have another slaaneshi log to follow in any case. :)

06-01-2008, 22:30
Just a not, I found the running possessed legs a real pasin to put together, although I am using humbrol precision poly, so that may be why.

Ah and the possessed arms have a tendency to break when stored in a standard GW case, so be careful there as well.

06-01-2008, 23:10
Nice painting style, you've managed to paint pink and make it look interesting without the usual pink neon effect all body effect.

The Slaaneshi god is turning his/her head favourably towards your dedication in their honour.

06-01-2008, 23:47
Thank you for the nice comments! I got in a good day of work on these guys and managed to rough in all the squad members. Now I need to add detail and bits, but these pictures give a good idea of the general feel I was going for. I want to take my time on finishing up details, but I am excited to put paint on them. Thanks for all the interest.

Here is the standing squad member we last saw, he now has a head and shoulder pads, making him much more fierce.

Here is the meltagun raptor, I wanted him to look as menacing as his weapon.

Here is another standard squad member with claw for CCW and bolt pistol.

Here is the last of the 3 standard squad members.

Thank you for all the feedback, I look forward to updating the log when I find more time to work on these guys.

06-01-2008, 23:48
Here is a very much WIP group shot. Stay tuned.

Here is a sneak peek of this weekends progress, straight from the chopping board...

I hope to have a significant update to share by the end of the weekend. Thanks for stopping by.

dammit - i've just been putting together my own slaaneshi raptors and i've done practically the exact same thing! and I thought I was being original.

they look good though, so that's okay :D

12-01-2008, 23:25
Very nice, i dont believe that the spinelike things are off of the possessed sprue...

12-01-2008, 23:32
The "baby wings" are from the Spawn sprues. Those sprues have lots of great tentacles, eyeballs, and other lovely tidbits. I bought the Spawn box just for the bits, I may make the torsos they provide in the box into Daemon Princes down the road. The amount of bits I got just by getting one of everything (except terminators so far) was amazing compared to previous sprues and box sets I have purchased.

13-01-2008, 02:45
Damn those arms do make great lightning claws and the squad as a whole looks better than what I was mulling over doing myself, time for a rethink. Can't believe I'm liking plastics. *laughs* I was trying to eye them up from the sprue but couldn't judge without actually having hold of them, cheers for the pictures, great unit. :)

In the same boat myself, have two possessed boxes and one spawn box on their way to me simply to add to my bits box.

13-01-2008, 20:38
Good to hear you are still at it Arkzein!

I think I have most of the bits work done on the Raptor squad and I only plan to do a small amount of green stuffing of joints and what not. So here they are!

First off is our flamer mutant friend, he has just a few bug bits from the possessed and csm sprues:

Next is the meltagun mutant, his giant spear mutant arm theme was carried over to the jump pack. The bits are from a chaos vehicle sprue:

Crabclaw man had his jump pack dressed up with a chaos symbol and some toothpick ends for spikes:

As always, thanks for looking and feedback is welcomed. Last two guys on next post...

13-01-2008, 20:40
Trophies for my favorite chainsaw armed mutant (vehicle accesories):

And our last guy is the charging, screaming, monstrosity that I like to call Bullhead (bits from chaos helmet and toothpicks):

13-01-2008, 21:05
And our last guy is the charging, screaming, monstrosity that I like to call Bullhead (bits from chaos helmet and toothpicks):

If you could put some extra speakers (maybe off a cadian vox/backpack) onto the jumppack with some wires running to the bullhead`s head it would really push the screaming angle. Great work!

13-01-2008, 21:30
Good idea! I'm thinking of using the exhaust ports of regular backpacks as speakers for my Noise Marines when I move into that project. I think one squad of Emperors Children Noise Marines and one squad of Flawless Host Noise Marines will be my troops. The EC will be shooty and the Host will be assaulty. I plan to make the EC squad first to bring my tiny army up to 400 points and combat patrol games, then I will add the other squad and Rhinos for both. That's the tentative plan for now, we all know how things can change.... first things first is to prime and paint this squad before I have to move!

Here is a current group shot, I like the overall feel and I will use them plus the original winged lord as inspiration for the rest of the modelling in the army.

24-01-2008, 17:24
I went out of town and then was convinced by my wife to finish painting her 5 man Black Legion Terminator squad, so this is why my log has not been updated. However, here is a pic of the Terminators and the Raptors are touched up and ready to be primed in the next day or two. Terminators for now, more to come. The goal is to finish the Raptors and Terminators completely before I need to pack up and move across the country. :D

Termies 90 percent done:

25-01-2008, 15:26
Ok, I finished the bases and all that is left is to spray seal these terminators and the side-track is done. Should be able to prime the Raptors today and get a good amount of painting in this weekend. Here is the Black Legion Terminators, a rush job but I am pleased with the results for a tabletop paint job.

As always, thanks for looking and stay tuned for me to get back to painting pink.

25-01-2008, 15:34
Looking good, I love the raptors and can't wait to see them painted.

And where are you moving to in KC? Be prepared for cold no matter which part you're heading into.

25-01-2008, 15:48
Thanks for the comment! I am moving to the Overland Park area of KC, I grew up in Kansas and look forward to living there again. We will have a dedicated game-room (my wife is also a wargamer) and are thinking of starting a game club once we get all set up there. Do you live in the area Tualarc?

To Tualarc or anyone in the KC area that plays 40k, we would appreciate any pointers for cool shops or clubs in the area. Thanks!

26-01-2008, 21:24
Proof of progress and a good look at the basic idea of the color scheme. The areas of mutation will be much brighter (closer to the Lord in the first post of this thread) when I am done. The Liche Purple/Mithril Silver combo is my new fave, good thing because there are 5 more primed Raptors waiting to be painted....

Flashed Out Picture of Progress:

Thanks for stopping by! Finish these guys by the end of February and start Noise Marines in March... stay tuned.

29-01-2008, 20:58
I ended up mixing colors to get a more muted pink, the Tentacle Pink is just way bright on a mini that has Liche Purple. So here he is nearing completion, I'm trying to decide how to do his Flawless Host markings still. Feedback is appreciated. The Champion is a color plan for the entire squad, I plan to do the next 5 as a group once this guy is done.

Mr Feral
29-01-2008, 21:33
I like the pink, that's cool. As for painting the Flawless Host (a great colour scheme IMO) do the lighter pink first then the purple carefully over. If you doing the purple first (as it seems you have done) a white basecoat then Tentacle Pink will do the job.

29-01-2008, 21:43
Thank you Mr. Feral for the tips! Are you aware of any other iconography or images of Flawless Host marines? I started this on a whim and now I'm getting really into the idea of this squad from a fluff standpoint too. :)

29-01-2008, 21:49
Lovely pink again, goes well with the purple. Must admit I myself as well am more a fan of the warlock heavy shades than those that veery more towards pure tenticle pink. Squad should look great when done. :)

Try this link (http://wh40k.lexicanum.com/wiki/The_Flawless_Host) for Flawless Host information. As far as I know, that's all the information on them. There was also a conversion of a plastic Flawless Host Chaos Lord in the codex as well.

*EDIT* The Flawless Host Chaos Lord is on page 67.

29-01-2008, 21:58
Thanks guys! There is also a really great flame pattern Flawless Host guy on page 20 of the new Chaos Codex. Both of your guys painting and modeling are an inspiration to me so thanks for stopping by in my little project. :)

29-01-2008, 22:12
Fantastic, so many good ideas I really should not try and copy as I'm poor at the moment

30-01-2008, 00:51

I live right on the border of leawood/op, so I'm definitely in the area, meeting a couple new gamers would be a splendid thing. As far as good shops in the area go I've been going to 31st century for a good 5+ years, the owner Joe is a standup guy. I'm not aware of any clubs in the area, as fantasy is really the game I've played, so I might have to pick up a 40k book and learn how to use my black templar.

EDIT: Forgot to mention the painting, I love the colors. I've got a Slaanesh fantasy band and I've gone with the purple/pink color as well. I can say you've done a grand job and I'm looking forward to seeing your raptors, maybe even in person :)

30-01-2008, 01:09
Thank you for the info Tualarc. I'll be sure to PM you and exchange info as our move date nears. I have always been interested in a Fantasy army so a trade of information sounds in order. ;) I appreciate the comments on the painting and I hope to be able to replicate the colors I mixed on the squad. I will try to remember to post up pics of the painting steps as I do the remaining squad members.

31-01-2008, 15:01
A picture of the basecoating in process. After grey spray primer, I basecoat the armor with Liche Purple, weapons and trim with Mithril Silver, mutations with Warlock Purple, leather and straps with Graveyard Earth, horns in Bleached Bone. Once I have all that done and touched up I begin to wash and dry brush them. I have a few more hours work on basecoating still (including lots of neatness touch ups) but every picture I put up keeps me working toward getting them done...

Ideas and feedback are welcomed, thanks for stopping by.

Hmm purple...
I like the Raptors (I also happen to be doing some as well :D, everyone likes Raptors!) so far, looks promising.

31-01-2008, 15:16
I took the picture in the sunlight to show the colors a bit better. The Champion in the back shows how the colors get more natural and muted after washing and drybrushing. My hope is to make the squad go together by doing them all at the same time.

21-02-2008, 19:54
I have too much to do to get ready to move! I will have to suspend this project for a few weeks, dangit! I wanted to make the deadline of moving day to finish them up but (as things usually are) the last minute is when everything happens. :)

I didn't want to go more than 30 days without an update and I promise I won't go that long before we see some finished Raptors!

PS I also have most of the bits and a plan for the first squad of Noise Marines conversions, so this warband WILL live on... soon.
