Well long time lurker and occasional poster who spends far too much time in the M, P&T Project logs so I thought I would start my own.

I currently have a Death Guard army which I usually play at about 1500pts although I have enough models to field more. I am working on building this up to 3000 points so I can play Apocalypse. This is an army that I only started because I wanted to paint typhus and then thought he needs a few blokes to go with him. The next thing I know I have a whole Death Guard army.

To start with a few pics of some elements that are already done. I usually have way to many things on the go at once which seems to prevent me from getting things finished. I also don't get a lot of time to paint so don't expect daily updates.

Let me know what you guys think.

I like them. For my personal taste, I like that you've managed to make them look diseased, but also bright enough for tabletop use. And also no sign of the ubiquitous brown ink, for which I also applaud you! Too many Nurgle models are painted too dark, and so don't look as good in-game as they do under a spotlight.

Looking forward to seeing some more. Subscribed!

I interesting that you say that, as they do get a coat of chestnut ink. I do give them a fairly heavy drybrush after that though.

I will attempt to add some more photos in the next day or two.

Ok for some WIP shots. First up are a few more Plague marines to round out another squad. Its a little blurry but you get the idea.

http://i265.photobucket.com/albums/ii224/rupertbrock/Death%20Guard/MarinesWIP.jpg

Then a new Lord converted from Huron Blackheart, I am not completely happy with the way he has turned out at the moment and may come back a redo him at some later stage.

http://i265.photobucket.com/albums/ii224/rupertbrock/Death%20Guard/LordWIP.jpg

Then a Daemon Prince that seems to be taking me far longer than it should to finish off.

http://i265.photobucket.com/albums/ii224/rupertbrock/Death%20Guard/DeamonPrince.jpg

And finally I have managed to get hold of one of the old Great Unclean Ones. The photo is not the best, I couldn't get the camera to focus properly on him. For sure an old model it has a lot of character I am really looking forward to getting him painted.

Love to hear what people think.

I like your painting style. The Lord looks great to me, very unique, the head just looks unfinished compared to the rest of him. Great looking army so far, keep it up! Do you plan to add Plague Zombies? :skull:

Everything looks really good. I like the Huron conversion alot. I was thinking of using the model myself but wasn't too sure he could pass for a plague marine but you've shown he definitely can, I think I'll have to pick up the model and give it a go myself.

I like your paint scheme which looks pretty similar what I did for my test model, I'm curious to know what colors you used.

I paint the armour very simply, start with a base coat of camo green, then a wash of chestnut ink then a drybrush of rotting flesh. For most of the army that's it. I take a bit more time on the characters but no major changes to that formula.

Yeah I like what you've done so far, and the Huron conversion is simple yet effective. Good luck with the project.

Thanks for your comments so far. No updates on the WIP's from before but here are some vehicles for you to have a look at. Hopefully I will get some painting done this weekend.

Always a thumbs up from me for deathguard.

These are subtle, subdued colours, but they work wonderfully.

I interesting that you say that, as they do get a coat of chestnut ink. I do give them a fairly heavy drybrush after that though.

In that case then I think you've done a really good job, they look excellent for it. The ones I'm refering too are the "shiny" type with too much ink without enough paint over the top.

An army shot would be welcomed as well.

Again thanks for your comments. I do have enough for an army shot already however I am struggling to get one to turn out looking even half decent. What I do have however is some more stuff you have not seen yet.

First up Terminators. I got these guys just before I found out that new plastic were coming I have only just finished basing them though.

Next Havocs. With the new Codex models with the mark of Nurgle are allowed heavy weapons. I am trying to keep pretty close to the previous Death Guard list so heavy weapons are still going to be pretty limited. I decided to add heavy bolters as there is heaps of art floating around with plague marines carrying them, so I did up a squad of them.

Last is my old possessed. They were converted up under the old Codex when they could have weapons, under the new Codex they obviously do not fit. In the couple of games I have had with them since the change I have used them as Chosen but I am not particularly happy with that. Not sure what I will do with them now, what do other people think?

@durbar11 I have been working on this army for absolutely ages and when I got the flamers I just bought them from the local shop. They should still be available, along with the other Death Guard assault weapons online.

Excellent army. Were the vehicles painted with the same camo green - rotting flesh combination? Because they look great and it seems there are more colors there. But it might be a camera thing. I also find the second termie from the left disgustingly beautiful:D

Yep the vehicles are painted in the same way, it looks like there are more colours as I don't paint the camo green as a completely solid colour and the ink wash is always slightly patchy. It shows up more prominently on the tank because of the large flat areas.

That's my favourite of the terminators too.

Well I have had a long weekend and therefore made a bit of progress on a few things. However my camera seems to be playing no talkies with my computer. I have one new pic though. They were put together as possessed before the new codex. They question is what do I do with them now? They no longer fit the rules for possessed, any suggestions?

http://i265.photobucket.com/albums/ii224/rupertbrock/Death%20Guard/Possessed.jpg

Hopefully I will have some more updates in the next few days. They have had a few outings as Chosen but I am not really happy with them for that.

For those out there still paying attention some actual progress. First up a Vindicator, this is the first of three to form a Linebreaker Squadron. I will get to the others in due course.

The next pic is a WIP of the old Great Unclean One that I managed to get hold of. I really like this model it has heaps of character. It's way to small to use as one now but I thought maybe it could be used as a Herald of Nurgle when the Deamonica codex comes out. Anyway I'm enjoying painting it so that what counts.

Lastly is an update on some WIP Plague Marines I have shown before. I'm not particularly happy with the meltagun and it will get some more attention soon.

I have stalled a bit on painting the Huron conversion, I am stuck with some of the detail, not sure what colours to paint the things hanging from his waist. Suggestions? Huron is also going to be a member of a chaos version on Masters of the Chapter but I need other models to fill out the other 'Captain' roles. The CSM range seems a bit light on for Chaos Lords in power armour that will convert nicely into Death Guard.

Mr Feral

I'm paying attention! *jumps about*

I like what you're doing here. Perhaps some purple on the dangy waist ornaments on the Huron conversion?

Thanks Mr Feral, glad someone is out there. I will give the purple a go and see how it looks. I will hopefully have some other updates too.

I am also paying attention! I'm working on some Death Guard myself, hoping to get some a log put up today or tomorrow.

folnjir
19-02-2008, 10:53
Thanks Torknik glad you like them, hope to seer your stuff soon. Also check out Cadavers log too.

Update time.

First up a lord and a sorcerer in terminator armour. I have actually had these guys for a while, but only recently photographed them. So they are an update for everyone out there in Internet land.

Next are two spawn, for when the sorcerer uses the Gift of Chaos power. The first spawn is the old metal one, the other is a really old beast of Nurgle.

I have made some progress on some of the WIP shots I have posted before but you will have to wait for those, until my camera is working properly again.

I have also bought some more Plaguebearers and I have a Great Unclean One to put together. I am planning on unsing them with the already posted Plaguebearers, some Nurgling bases and the old Great Unclean One, will count as a Herald as a new Daemon army.

As always, would love to hear people comments and feedback.

Mr Feral
19-02-2008, 11:06
Nice Chaos Lords, I like the choice of older miniatures there. Did the Terminator Lord come with spikes? It seems to be lacking something from the original (in a good way of course)

Horray for Plaguebearers, can't wait to see those.

Update time. Its been a while but there has been some progress.

@Mr Feral, yep the Terminator Lord did have some spikes on the top but I got rid of them as I didn't feel that they fit to well with the Death guard style.

First up with some updates, Bikers. I really only did these as I thought they would be fun to convert and put together. They don't gel completely with the Death Guard style of war, but as i said they were fun to put together.

http://i265.photobucket.com/albums/ii224/rupertbrock/Death%20Guard/Bikers.jpg

Next up are what I thought were going to be the last infantry I was going to add to the army but now I have seen the FW stuff I think they will have to be added eventually.

http://i265.photobucket.com/albums/ii224/rupertbrock/Death%20Guard/PlagueMarines.jpg

And a final pic of the Lord conversion. Needs some glass added to the base but apart from that all done.

http://i265.photobucket.com/albums/ii224/rupertbrock/Death%20Guard/Lord.jpg

I have also got my act together with putting the images in the actual post. Yay me. Might go back and do the same with the early posts too.

Mr Feral
02-03-2008, 10:18
Nice DG! I dig the Bikers, I must do some of those sometime. You mention the new FW DG goodness, that should be good (I'm damn tempted myself). Sweet Lord as well, is that a wooden stock on his Bolter?

folnjir
03-03-2008, 04:41
Thanks again Mr Feral. I like the bikers too, they wee good to put together and paint. Probably not that useful in game terms but they look good and that's pretty high on my list of priorities. Yep that is a wooden grip on the lords bolter. It's the one you get in the Death Guard box its the bolter for the Aspiring Champion.

As far as the Lord conversion goes, Nice job only jarring bit I saw was the Khorne Icon hanging from his belt.

Cypher would probably convert into DG fairly well (hes already wearing a robe.)
and theres always Fabious Bile...

Thanks for the comments. The icon hanging from his belt is actually an Eldar symbol he also has a couple of gems (soulstones?)

I have some updates too, not Death Guard but some terrain. I have put together a couple of buildings. After all what the point of having a large collection of the forces of chaos without an Imperial city for them to despoil?

Some really nice painting and conversions here..
My one thing I would like to mention though is on the bikers. The wheels look like they are just off the showroom and pristine. Nurglelfy them a bit, or at least add some sand or whatever you use to base them and make them a bit muddy...

For the glory of Nurgle....

Well for those of you out the following this its not dead, just being made quite sick by work and study. However with the Easter break comes some updates.

Thanks for the comment Mutantdale, the bikes now have taken their bikes of road a bit and no longer have brand new show room tyres. (no pics of them though).

I do have pics of two Aspiring Champions, they need basing obviously but are pretty much otherwise done and I thought I would share anyway.

http://i265.photobucket.com/albums/ii224/rupertbrock/Death%20Guard/RIMG0247.jpg

The one with the sword will be added to the Havoc Squad. Originally they were not meant to end up in close combat but nearly always do. on a side note, the last time these guys were on the table the only casualties caused by the plasma guns were 4 Death Guard. Yes they all fried themselves without killing any of the enemy.

http://i265.photobucket.com/albums/ii224/rupertbrock/Death%20Guard/RIMG0250.jpg

Next up is the old Great Unclean One or Little Unclean One as I call him. Once again need basing but otherwise pretty much finished.

Lastly an update on one of the buildings I posted before. It is still WIP and I am not happy with the flooring on the ground level. I may just re-base coat and start again.

http://i265.photobucket.com/albums/ii224/rupertbrock/Death%20Guard/Build1WIP.jpg

Thats it for the moment, as always would love to hear comments and feedback. I will try to make the time between updates shorter next time.

have you considered any areas of Nurglistic infestations in the buildings, patches of slime and rust here, a Nurgling there. (that kind of thing?)

I hadn't actually thought about that. As I want to be able to use these with other armies I have which are mostly Imperial. I do have some ideas for some Nurgly (is that a word?) objective markers for Apocalypse.

I was hoping to have more tan this done by now but stupid things like work and study seem to keep getting in the way.

Nice log. Old school Unclean One FTW!

I like a good DG log. Its nice to see the excellent PM models mixed in with some clever conversions for once. Too many DG armies are just plastic marines with lumps of greenstuff randomly thrown on.

Man, I need to get back into Plague marines- such fun to paint and model.

Hey there. Your models are really cool, but I think they will benefit from having a dark brown edge on the bases. Other than that, I can give nothing but praise of course, as they look really awesome!

But! Seeing as your models are primarly green, the green edging on the base makes them look less defined. Also, I think the whole green base thing is pretty unrealistic to begin with.

If you paint them brown, like the dirt you put on the bases, it will make the base more realistic and your models stand out more.

Try it on one model to see if you like it.
Keep it up though, great stuff! I really like the bikers, though the tires should be muddied up a little. And then there are the Spawn. Absolutely awesome!!

Your army is looking rocking mate, the simplicity of your colour scheme is one of its greatest strengths I think - it allows you to paint cool looking models relatively quickly.

I think your Possessed work perfectly fine in the new Codex, after all with the Possessed abilities being randomly determined you can't really model to represent what they've got in game, so yours are fine, and look damn cool too.

Thanks for your comments. I have not done anything on this army for a while, I do have some stuff that I have not put pics up for, I might try and put a few up.

If you are referring to he pointing champion he is one of the old 2nd ed Death Guard champs with a little green stuff added.
