here are some side projects:

I converted/painted this Inquisitor for my brothers SM army as a Christmas presant
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v136/Rahveel/40k/Painted/PC060068.jpg
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v136/Rahveel/40k/Painted/PC060067.jpg

and this next guy is a bit special to me. some years ago my best friend (who got me into 40k) died, we had a lot of good times with 40k, but the one thing I will always remember was a marine named Eric. when my friend ordered his first box of SM's, one pair of legs was missing, un fussed he atached a spare nut (as in nuts and bolts you dirty minded ones ;p) to his torso, and declared him as having experimental bionics. well, Eric disapeared after my friend died, and I decided to do a tribute as a present to his mum.

in all his unpainted glory, I present Eric the Half Marine
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v136/Rahveel/40k/PC060074.jpg

a la dee dee, a one two three, Eric the Half Marine!

WOW! very cool and very nice paint job.

The paint on the inquisitor is a bit thick, but it might be the pic... anyhow, nice job.

kool! how did you do the red?

Rahveel
10-01-2008, 18:04
I just kind of roughly blend this formula... 50:50 mix of foundation (mecha-something) red and chaos black for the base, then a highlight of foundation red, and then a final highlight of 50:50 foundation red and blood red. it is more than just the 3 steps, but thats the main points I try to hit.

Half a Marine, philosophically,
Must, ipso facto, half not be.
But half the Marine has got to be
Vis a vis, its entity. D'you see?

But can a Marine be said to be
Or not to be an entire Marine
When half the Marine is not a Marine
Due to some ancient injury?

good day warseer's!

so I've been considering dropping my theme of fallen BT in favor of Nurgle (has always been my favorite god) but as this is a daunting task, and sets me back to square on in painting, I wanted to show some very WIP Nurgle Chosen (4 of 7). they will receive a great deal more nurglefication :)

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v136/Rahveel/40k/nurgchg2.jpg

here is also my first attempt at a nurgle Havoc w/ missile launcher.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v136/Rahveel/40k/nurgdev.jpg

any C&C is greatly appreciated! :)

thread necromancy! (its mine, and I didnt want to start a new one) :P

well, its been ages.... havent goten as much finished as I would have liked, but have made some good starts on things.

decided to forget the wings on the DP, he looks cool enough w/o them (IMO), and I think he still holds wysiwyg for flight.

very happy with how he is coming, about 60% finished now. posed with some friends for scale.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v136/Rahveel/40k/Painted/DPpvjpg.jpg

finished converting the nurgle dev squad (1 ML, and 3 bolters not pictured)
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v136/Rahveel/40k/nurgdevg1.jpg

been playing alot of PP as well, working on a Khador force
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v136/Rahveel/P1290077.jpg

you may notice the lack of basing on any of the models, I am waiting to do the bases until I decide what my new gaming table will be like.

I think flight works perfectly as is.

I really love the look of your army. I say stick with the fallen templars, they look great.

Looking nice. Can't wait to see more.

Rahveel
11-07-2008, 00:23
thanks guys!

after getting a good start on the DP, I decided to stick with the fallen templars idea, with a strong Nurgle Presance. fits with my fluff of roge templares fleeing to the Maelstrom, a warp-born deasese of some kind aflicting a large portion of the renagades. prior to the new codex (when I bought the models) I had planed to use the WB rules, but with the lack of any reason to do so in the new codex, I will include all gods. the DP will be Tz, and I will feild a unit of T-sons when I use him.

oh look... WIP T-sons....

Im glad your sticking with the fallen templar idea. Very excellent if I do say so myself.

I feel I must say your extreme highlighting on the sorcerors robe looks great. I might have to try that out myself sometime :D

With such wonderfuly painted and converted models, who couldnt help but comment!

And it seems this time youve taken the cake so to speak with those termies. Im simply speechless. If I had only 2 words to describ them it would be "awe inspiring". I mean each one is a work of art! Wow, im on a rant now. Anyways, great work. And please, keep up the pics :) It helps those such as I get stuff done, even if your stuff kicks my stuffs rear :D

*edit* Oh seems I never voted this thread. Which should be taken care of now.

11-07-2008, 17:52
when he is all finished up (I am much more inspired to finish him now!) I will take some good 360 pics.

or I just will after my next session... who knows? :P

he is the necron nightbringer, with some facial details sculpted over w/ GS, the tenticle arm is from the mordheim possesed model, and the weapon head and mechandrites are from a defiler. fairly simple conversion :)

Rahveel
19-08-2008, 07:38
well, not much done in the painting department. mostly working on rank and file, and nothing finished enough to show.

however, I was hoping to getsome feedback on my latest conversion;

Behold! Horu'Sek, Greater Daemon of Chaos Undivided! (with minion for scale)

still very WIP, just wanted to get some feedback on this guy, quite pleased myself. I am not to skilled at putty work, but its coming along better than I had hoped.

C&C welcome!

My first impression was holy s**t! After I got my jaw off the ground I thought thats the most bad ass techno demon ive ever seen. Then I started looking at the detail and the the 2nd pic. After that i kinda got confused on what its going to actually be.

I hope im right on the techno demon, but even if im wrong, I know youll make it badass whatever form it will take.

my whole army will get a good fluff write up at some point, but basic idea behind this guy is thus;

when the crusade of BT my army is split from was engaged in an extended campaign against the Word Bearers (the campaign that eventually led to their fall) a number of chaos artifacts were retrieved. lacking the tools to properly destroy them, the BT locked them away from the general populace, in their most secure vaults, until such time as they could be handed over to the proper authorities.

proper procedure was not followed, and stored in the same vault was the machine spirit of a Land Raider destroyed in the early parts of the campaign. over time, the blasphemous artifacts leached corruption into the Machine spirit, granting it a terrible and maligned intelligence. the now fully sentient machine began to build itself a new body, absorbing other machines, much like a space hulk adrift in the warp.

so yes, techno daemon

Simply *********** amazing idea. Im going to have to steal the model idea, but the fluff is so good I wouldmt dare steal that.

Mr Feral
19-08-2008, 20:12
Horu'Sek is probably the most random and surreal conversion I've ever seen!

I must also say what a great job you've done on the rest, the Daemon Prince is superb and the overall theme is class.

Good work!

Rahveel
19-08-2008, 21:25
Wow, thanks Mr Feral, your Red Corsairs have been very inspiring to me!

Random and surreal is exactly what I was hoping for, my regular CSM's are pretty mutation free, and not to chaotic, so I really wanted my deamons to hit the opposite end of the spectrum.

:realizes he hasn't posted his lesser daemons here:

Alright. Your daemons are beyond impressive. They're just so...intriguing.

Your greater daemon actually reminds me a bit of the Malice Umbral - the last boss from Shadow Hearts: From the New World

bluebugs
20-08-2008, 05:47
Holy wow! Inspiring to say the least. I was going to do a mixed daemon squad (as in every model different) but then I figured some rules nazi would say they were all to drastically different to count as the same thing. But now, I don't care.

Rahveel
20-08-2008, 20:16
@bluebugs
To hell with them! they are daemons, of chaos no less. I checked out you'r CSM log, and you defanatly should. :)

@loveless
thanks! I never actually beat Shadowhearts, do you have a pic of Malace Umbral?

yay, a (small) update!

i needed 2 oblits. i dislike GW's Bits. I had 2 older plastic cold ones i have had kicking around my bits box for a few years, so they got the chaos treatment! still highly WIP, butt you can get what im goin for :)

09-10-2008, 08:04
These are all amazing! I'd really like to see more pics of the techno demon - it's such a conceptual object. I love the concept, we need more strange chaos entities - everyone always gives their guys heads, arms, legs, etc you know the normal things a demon prince would have or whatever. It's refreshing to see something different!
Those are some mean looking oblits too. Wouldn't want to be on the receiving end of that.
Cheers!

Rahveel
09-10-2008, 15:23
thanks! he really was ment to be more of an 'entity' than the normal GD's, and like the rest of my army, I really wanted him to stand out in a crowd. (and with any luck, get some opponents who say "what in the hell is that??"

and spent some time working on wings for him,

Very awsome work. I especialy love your terminators and deamons. That big ball of techno goo reminds me of some crazy Beholder type creature :P And on behalf of all Tomb Kings players, I'm glad you did the Ushabti model justice :D Though I'de love to see those wings back on him. Even if they touch the ground that's ok, it just like they would normaly when thair really big, kind of drag along behind him slightly.

Not to be a fanboi here but I can't help but look at your techno demon and think " We are Borg, resistance is futile, prepare to be assimilated ". Don't get me wrong, it's a class looking conversion [ one I might pinch/yoink for an upcoming Ad Mech detachment I'm brewing up at a later date] and I'm actually quite fond of it.

I'm glad to see someone else has discovered what I've most recently come to learn. That there is this place, you can find it once you shed convention, and your brain takes a walk off of the map. Only there can you find this kind of inspiration.

I'm impressed by your GS-fu, converting, & painting all the way around. Kudos to you sir.

the ushabti daemon prince needs a lot of work still. I am not yet close to being happy with his cloak, but I like the direction it is going.

and yes.. the greater daemon is going to be an unholy terror to paint...
