View Full Version : Alphachickens Log

Well, I'm finally back to london.

To those who were waiting for the elysian vulture, I'm terribly sorry. Unfortunatly I had no space to carry it with me back here since its already assembled, and I couldn't risk giving it to the baggage service, so it will stay in Turkey till easter holiday, when hopefully I'll be smart enough to carry some paints there and finish it.

I've gamed couple of times with the elysians, and to be honest, I had no expectations using the D-99 rules in such small points (500), but I still had fun. I made that army as a showcase army of my highest quality, and it will stay in my room to show off to people =) I lost both of my games against space marines, thanks to horrible throwings by my demo-charge wielding guardsmen, either hitting themselves or throwing it 10 meters off the target.

So why open this log? Well...I can't decide what to do now as a new project till easter and beyond. I have some ideas in my head, I wanted to share it with you, and post them here as I progress and paint models, instead of making multiple posts for each army. I'm hoping one of them will arise as the better one and I'll keep up with it.

So, I got three armies in mind at the moment.

A- Space Wolves, being truescale, and heavily converted. They will be oldschool gray/yellow coloured. The following link will take you to the closed log where I stopped posting for now till I decide what to do:

B- Witch Hunters. I've recently read "Eisenhorn Trilogy" of Dan Abnett, which took the place of my favourite Black Library book from space wolves/gotrek&felix by far. A great series if you haven't read it, even if you hate inquisitors. The book is really pushing me into making my own inquisitor/henchmen group, plus a chimera and maybe one or two squads of stormtroopers. This little "army" could go with my blood ravens/elysians/cadians.

C- Raptors. Uhm, now we're talking for real. The raptors...I love them as much as I love space wolves. They're dirty, hard fighting, logically coloured space marines using the sm codex, but still there's room for great conversions. This will be my current high-prio project. They will be truescale, and heavily converted, and hopefully an infantry based army, if I don't go mad converting them to truescale.

So; again leaning on an amazing illustration of Karl Kopinsky, this is the look I'm aiming for:

First marine Raptor Bob finished

I've done a simple paintjob of two hours on him just to show you the colours/look I'm aiming for, I'm hoping I can do a better standart once I get going with it.

And the sizeshot, please notice that the Raptor is standing on a 1mm plasticard to cover up the slotta base

I hope I can finally start a new project before going mad =) Thanks for checking this new log, and hope to see you soon \o

That is a good looking marine you've made there, painted quite nice too. My only gripe would be the red, the monotone colour of the Kopinski illustration has a certain aesthetic value with the chipped paint and what not. Id throw in some more weathering with paint chips etc... Other then that, its a top knotch conversion, your a daring man if you plan on doing an army of these bastards to that caliber. I'd need to stumble into the kitchen and pour myself a glass of ambition.

11-01-2008, 08:39
agreed with MFV. That or make the green a shade lighter.

I know its only you test mini but watering down the white a small bit and layering it might help. Im no expert at freehand but the white just seems a little thick. More so on the Tactical arrow that the other. Might just be the photo though

11-01-2008, 09:00
nice green, very smooth.

12-01-2008, 21:52
I'm terribly sorry for the delay, but schoolwork and computer games are quite time-consuming  I finally had the time to convert&paint my second raptor today, with minor details to do, mud on the feet and paint chipping Metal Fingered Villain suggested.

Here he is:

I also realised that working with the round knee-cap legs need another type of truescaling, and got on my nerves a lot. So I'll be dodging those legs as much as I can. I tried using as few reds as possible here, and even changed the eye colour to yellow, and will do the same to my 1st marine.

+++ EDIT +++

I hated the 2nd marine. I just hated it. So removed the legs and starting doing it all over again. You can see the old failure here : http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v104/boyacininevi/40k/raptor2fini.jpg

The new one will be a bit taller. I guess the kneecaps are the problem, which make the lower part of the leg look really small, compared to the other type of legs but I'm really reluctant about cutting the lower part of the leg and makingit longer, so will try this:
I hope you like this one better.
Thanks for checking the log out, and hope to see you soon \o

14-01-2008, 01:29
I've repaired and painted up my 2nd raptor, I guess its fine now, atleast much better than the old version.

And to my surprise I sat down, converted and painted the 3rd one in one sitting. \o/

The structure and the finished marine

Shot with flash, poor kasrkin for size purposes =)

All 3 of the raptors so far, please note the fixed beakie marine

I hope you like them as much as I do, thanks for checking the log and hope to see you soon \o

19-01-2008, 11:30
well, I finally had the guts to format my pc, and had a wonderful time restoring it back to what it was =S

While doing it, the 4th and 5th raptors are done, and I added chipping to the elderly ones, I hope you like them.

first 4 raptors with their newly chipped armour
5th raptor

For some wierd reason, I also painted the poor ork kommando sitting on my table for the last few months, staring at the elysians. I must say Im quite unhappy with how it turned out, and hoping that someone could enlighten me whats wrong with it. Is the skin too light coloured? was the blending done horribly?

Ahwell, thats it for this week, thanks for checking the log, and see you soon \o

23-01-2008, 21:13
I really like the Raptors, your work on them reminds of some of the Space Marine pictures from the original Rogue Trader book with their osmotic gills and heavy piping. The wear and tear has been done nicely.

The Ork... Hmm, perhaps the eyes and teeth could use some work? If they were more delineated it would enhance the whole model I'm sure! Well done on painting him anyway, don't like unpainted models lying about!

Darn, now I have to finish my Impie escort ships! Such hypocrisy!

23-01-2008, 22:32
lookin good, i like how you've managed to get marine to look... well marineish

23-01-2008, 23:47
Hey, thanks for the kind words, I thought people lost interest in this log..

This week was a bad week for raptors, apart from assembly I didn't do anything for them.

But orks...hmm..

I actually went to gw to buy more marines to chop up and ended up with the new ork boyz box for some reason. I guess my faith in the holy throne was a bit shaken...well anyways, I ended up painting some and actually had fun:

I got 3 more lying on the table waiting to be finished. I probably won't do more since...well I just love imperium

Thanks for checking the log, and hope to see you soon \o

23-01-2008, 23:57
Orks Orks Orks :)

Your marines look superb, truescale is really the way to go!

24-01-2008, 00:08
Nice Raptors. Keep it up.

24-01-2008, 03:17
hey, if u like painting orks so much y dont u put ur marine army on hold and do an ork one.

24-01-2008, 17:04
hey, if u like painting orks so much y dont u put ur marine army on hold and do an ork one.

Well, I just know that I'll be bored around 40th ork, but its still a nice distraction to paint them, using bright colours like orange too...:D

Ahwell, a new raptor, my 7men tactical squads heavybolter wielder. I wanted him to have something special, so I painted the bolter in yellow, but Im not sure about it being the right choice.

There's also a lot of paintchipping on the model but the flash almost removed all of them, I'll try taking a proper shot so you can see them later on;

thanks for checking the log, and see you soon \o

24-01-2008, 17:42
Alphachicken, that some really nice Raptors you got there. Any more marines with heavy weapons, or even terminators?

24-01-2008, 17:57
I really like the yellow heavy bolter. The rest is great too, of course.

24-01-2008, 18:09
Alphachicken, that some really nice Raptors you got there. Any more marines with heavy weapons, or even terminators?

Thanks a lot, yes, I intend to make a devastator squad after finishing this squad with a veteran sargeant/pf. Terminators, well due to the doctrines (traits) I'll be picking I can't field anyone with terminator armour, and just 1 terminator squad. I'll probably just go marine heavy at first, but maybe later when I want to convert one into truescale in future

24-01-2008, 18:27
Cool with devastators, the yellow works fine, btw. But a shame with those dam Space Marine traits!

27-01-2008, 00:43
And the first squad is done!

27-01-2008, 11:12
Excellent! Bring on the rest please! The heavy Bolter is my favourite the brownish/yellow really offsets the camo green on them pretty well

27-01-2008, 19:00
nice squad

12-02-2008, 16:53
ohh that´s pure awsomeness right there. I love them not over the top and very good wheathering. man I don´t know what to say more than keep up the great work!

12-02-2008, 19:48
thanks for the kind words :)

unfortunatly after 6 years I've finally fallen for WHFB, so making some woodelves now, my truescale raptors and orange shiny orks are put on shelf for now.

I can show one last thing before a probable long break, which is my hopefully future inquisitors bodyguard painted, and a proper sizeshot with the other raptor marine.

Thanks again, and hope to see you in the future for more 40k ;)

12-02-2008, 20:28
I like that red armor, very cool.

12-02-2008, 20:42
Too bad you're taking a break from the Raptors. You were off to a good start.

Question, what shade of brown did you use over the green? It looks a bit like scorched mixed w dark flesh.

Anyways, good luck w/ the Wood Elves. They're fun. I have a small Spirit of the Forrest army.

12-02-2008, 21:12
I really like that Raptors you've done there. I've tried many times to fit the accessories on to Marine bodies but have never liked the way that they turn out. You've pulled it off really well! My favourite has to be the Flamer Marine.

Good work!

12-02-2008, 22:52

its extremly watered down scorched brown, quite simple :D

12-02-2008, 23:00
Really, I woulda sworn that it was a mix.

Thanks for the quick response.

02-03-2008, 23:58
Well after a long break of wow and university work (and some woodelves) I finally started doing some raptors again.

I had a spare terminator to chop off, and a nod to synapse and doghouse here, thanks for the inspiration ;) , I made him my captain. Since its fairly larger than my other truescale marines he'll have a fancy artificer armour made for him, a plasma pistol because they look cool, and a massive eviscerator!

Anyways he'll probably get painted this week, but here's a wip shot.

thanks for checking the log, and see you soon

He pretty meaty! The jump pack actually looks the right size for once :P Thats sword looks HUGE! What is that on th end of his beak...it looks like a gun sight?

03-03-2008, 09:14
el capitan over there is a beast!

Uhm yeah, it was supposed to be a rebreather, but I guess I couldn't sell it ;) Could add some wires I guess!

el capitan over there is a beast!

He's quite...absurdly comical large

03-03-2008, 14:36
I have to say, I'm disappointed that you'd disgrace a beakie helm with a "rebreather".

Tsk, tsk.

If only I had the patience to cut apart and up-size a bit, but lately I can't hold attention long enough to paint a head.

Keep up the good work, Chook.

03-03-2008, 15:18
I think thats the first time Ive seen an "actual scale" (I think thats the term, right? As opposed to "true scale") marine next to a guardsman, and its truely huge! Would make a nice display piece but I'd hate the thought of trying to make an armies worth...

Good stuff!

03-03-2008, 15:55

Im sure the artificers wouldn't even dare touch the beakie helmet if it wasn't absolutely necessary! ;)

Added some wireworks today, now I can undercoat and paint,

03-03-2008, 16:16
looking good alpha,

loving those raptors nice and gritty!

keep it up for the captain,

the dude-
tha lavadude!

03-03-2008, 16:44
Looking good. Dirty Marines ftw!

03-03-2008, 19:52
quick paintjob on him, I may fix couple of stuff, I hope you like him ;)

03-03-2008, 20:01
Looking nothing but complete and utter ace... and that eviscerator (by the gods, if that isn't eviscerator size, then I don't know what is) looks ******* brilliant... and HUGE!

As for the original drawing,

Nothing says marines are badass as much as them using swords for boot-knifes

11-03-2008, 03:10
Another week, and I'm 2 days away from easter holiday, 1 month of freedom!

Anyways, this time I took the truescaling a bit more seriously, and started sculpting a 13th company wolf.

The armour is pretty much similar to what doghouse and synapse did before, with few changes around the belt and neckguard. Im still very amateur when it comes to greenstuff and I think some places still need proper cleaning before I can add wolfy stuff like tails and charms and little trophies. Im also thinking about removing the torso and adding a proper belt since I removed the old one for fitting, although this can be fixed with grenades and pouches.

I added a shot with an old crusader helm, and an open one with my own googles and rasta(?) hair wolf head  If I use the crusader one, it'll have a topknot added on top.

Any critism is very much welcome, I'm open to all and want to improve my sculpting =)

Thats it for tonight, hope to see you all later \o

11-03-2008, 03:56
I am in awe of your work Alphachicken, so much so I now feel compelled to create an entire company of true scale SM. Any advice on converting DA cloaked models to true scale?

As for the rasta versus crusader, why not go for both? I'm sure I'm not the only one who would like to see what you do with them. Perhaps practice your green stuff sculpting on one, and post how you go for critique.

Keep up the inspirational work!

11-03-2008, 14:25
im sure thats a paul dainton pic (karl Kopinski hasnt been with GW for well over a year now). great pic nonetheless - just the way i like my marines: big long legs!

greatwork on the raptors too - i love the pouches and the truescaling is nice and simple, enough to make them stand out! great work, keep it up

Uhm, I think it'd be easier with robed plastic marines, I'll make a template today when I'm free, just woke up
Did this template, it should be fairly easy really, since you don't have to match the size of the legs or make the joints perfect, just cut above the kneecaps(or under them, got to try to see which works better) add a 1mm plasticard, it doesn't have to fit perfectly, and cover the rest with greenstuff.
I hope it helps =)

Is he now? He was one of my favourite illustrators in gw with Paul, who just make marines look like demi-gods, sad to hear that :cries:
Thanks for the crit Synapse, it means a lot coming from you since you're the one with doghouse who got me started on this kind of work :D

11-03-2008, 21:25

Some details done, now onto the arms with lots of fur! ;)

05-04-2008, 03:57
Truly the Emperor smiles on you for finally giving the Space Marines the thorough upgrade of badassery they so truley deserved. Bravo sir! Now I'm gonna have to try this!

05-04-2008, 11:31
The Raptors are excellent mate and the 13th company guy looks fantastic. Great work on the GS parts, I'm impressed.

I did make one of those robed DA models taller in the same way for a friend of mine. I found that it's best to cut below the knee and then add the spacer and GS over it.
It's probably the easiest way to truescale actually.

15-04-2008, 12:26
Easter holiday is gone and I'm back in London, time for hobbies! :)

First things first, the pre-heresy spacewolf is finished, here's the final pic:

He looks absurdly huge on tabletop compared to my friends marines so I don't think I'll be making an army of them, although I love the model so far ^^

Since the new space wolf codex' release date was rumoured to be the end of the year I stopped working on them (praying for new plastic accessory sprue) so I'll be painting and modelling some eldar till then. I bought a battleforce and poked my head inside for the first time at eldar models. I always admired how people painted their vehicles, using the 1-piece hull like a canvas, so I'll be starting with the wave-serpent first, here's 6 episodes of animes worth painting:

I just sprayed it white and started shading it slowly, trying to blend as much as I can without getting bored with the model. Next on will be painting on some fancy stuff, I'll most probably be doing biel-tan as craftworld so I guess it'll be green thorny wines, but I may change my mind and go with the ice-blue/blue scheme. I guess time will tell..

Anyways, thats enough talk for today, I don't want to bore you to death, hope to see you soon with more of this serpent

16-04-2008, 03:16

Thanks Doghouse! its great to hear a compliment from someone I look up to ^^

Today I started doing the wines on the waveserpent. Its a fun task which takes time, but the overall result looks nice, and its not even finished! The wines will get shades and highlights after Im done with them on the other side. I hope you like it:

more additions:

Thats it for today, thanks for checking the log :)

That Space Wolf is huge! He awesome, are you going to paint him up soon? I like the look of your grav tank as well. Nice vine and symbol combo.

Thanks for the comments Norseman, unfortunatly I forgot him back in Turkey after playing a game at a friends house, a classic fault of mine now, living in two places is a bit annoying at times :cries:

But...to make all space wolves fans happy, after reading through the rumours a bit more, I made my first Grey Hunter for the new codex. I guess I'll start building the basics slowly, and leave the details till the codex comes out..

He has bp/ccw, and a bolter, just like the chaos marines, and the painting is 13th co/pre-heresy scheme, which I always loved. Unfortunatly I couldn't get my hands on any of the 13th co waterslides, so all the details and markings on him are freehand, I hope you think it looks just about the same.

Without further ado:

18-04-2008, 12:24
Me likey yousa stuffsa!

19-04-2008, 06:27
Me likey yousa stuffsa!

^^ thanks

Tonight was a lot of greenstuff work, but no painting, first off, 2 new grey hunters;

And my favourite of tonight, the longfang. I've made it static and bored looking, kind of a nod towards the very old metal ones which I liked a lot, the new rules (rumoured) say that longfangs will have chainswords aswell, so here we go...

And thats it for tonight, hope to see you in the future :)

19-04-2008, 10:53
Oh i forgot, nice steal on the renji hair, bleach ftw :D

Whoa man he looks cool!

20-04-2008, 22:09
hey what happened to all the serxy raptors?

not that i dislike the wolves (thyre very cool), but i thought it was refreshing for the raptors to get some loving. and i loved the equipment - the pocuhes, pipes and ammo and stuff that you gave them. i love marines like that!

keep up the good work

20-04-2008, 23:23
Thanks for the comments =)

I will probably return back to raptors later, right now Im just too damn excited to hear about the wolf codex and want to improve my painting a bit instead of conversion skills, although they're lovely to look and fun to make, Im not sure I can make 40+ truescale infantry at the moment =/

But synapse you've been doing lots of chapters lately, why not add Raptors to it aswell? ^^

22-04-2008, 09:02
Got 2 more grey hunters completed tonight;

I also found these wolves to use as fenrisian wolves (fingers crossed that they don't get taken away in the new codex) I think their size is okay considering they have space marine stats, and the models are much much better than the gw goblin wolves.

23-04-2008, 06:27
Those look like Reaper wolves.

Looking good, looking very good.

Back up a few posts though...

Why the hell do people put hearts on Eldar craft? Is it some subliminal "must make them gayer than they already are" impulse?

23-04-2008, 07:00
Why the hell do people put hearts on Eldar craft? Is it some subliminal "must make them gayer than they already are" impulse?

Could be the fact that a heart is part of one of the most major Craftworld's symbol. I dunno, maybe that's the reason ;)

Loving the Space Wolves, probably my favorite chapter of the bunch. But I must echo the request for more truescale Raptors... those were brill!

24-04-2008, 11:08
Sorry for the late reply, my laptops motherboard failed, and I'm without a pc in my house right now, writing from school. Life without computers suck, as its proven again.

Those look like Reaper wolves.

Why the hell do people put hearts on Eldar craft? Is it some subliminal "must make them gayer than they already are" impulse?

yeah they're reaper wolves.

The reason behind all the heart&eldar is the fact that the heart is the symbol of the biel-tan craftworld, appareantly symbolising rebirth, as it is what the biel tan craftworld are trying to do, recreate the old eldar empire once ruled the space.

About the wolves, thanks a lot for the compliments, it is my favourite chapter aswell. I will probably make more truescale raptors later on, but I must tell making truescale armies are almost impossible, infact the only person I've seen that has accomplished such an act is migsula, so I don't think I'll be patient enough to build a whole army of them anywhere in the future

Thanks again for the compliments, right now I'm working on more wolves, a predator and a vindicator for them, but till my laptop gets a new motherboard, I probably won't be able to post them up...ahwell... :cries:

05-07-2008, 07:34
Sorry to hear about the laptop.:(.. but your marines look great!

10-10-2008, 17:26

This will be my 3rd year in London, only 2 years left of the university now, and a whole new year for making new models!

Fortunatly we got the new SM codex now, so lots of opportunities and new ideas, and cool models.

This years first project will be...Raven guard! being one of my favourite chapters (raptors were their successor) and having probably the coolest character in the book, they'll be my focus this year. There'll also be some space wolves to add my old army, and maybe some IG, if we get a bit of rumours to push me.

Ohwell, without further ado, some of the brainstorming and its fruits:

I'll shave off the studs on the legpiece a bit later on, and add a skull symbol on the chestlock when it dries and there'll be lots and lots of cleaning and sandpapering to do, but this is the general idea. I'm not optimist enough to say that I'll be making an army of these chaps, as it takes quite a long time, but probably a vanguard squad will be made to start with, and maybe a redo of shrike later.

This' it for now, hope to see you later with more updates \o

11-10-2008, 11:51
And voila!

Laters \o

11-10-2008, 19:00
very cool, good size chest everything seems well proportioned. his right leg/left side of photo one seems to have crease in it, just seemed odd. He looks really good though I like it alot.

11-10-2008, 19:03
I second that. Great conversion and painting, and the proportions are on spot, but his right leg seems a little strange...

18-10-2008, 01:11
Okay, some new models from the table:

The crimson fist has a very "basic" painting now, I know how simple he looks and will add purity seals and fix that awful looking face this week when I can see proper.
Next to the ravenguard one, his legs fixed

A sizeshot with a tip-toe jp marine

WiP stage

Thats it for now, see you next time

21-10-2008, 20:00
Some new things:

Beutiful old IG models, I bought a box of them 2 months ago and finally started painting them, decided on the standart colour scheme, but I started trying the new inks, or washes, which work okay really considering the time they take to apply.

I actually like these models so much, I'm not sure wheather or not to wait for the new IG models that are rumoured or start making a mech-ig army now

A little sneakpeak on the truescale business, the crimsonfist chaps turning into a 13th co wolf =o

08-11-2008, 11:50
While I was doing my elysians 2 years ago I'd painted two or three tau models which I liked a lot. Continuing a similar scheme here's a clean WIP edition of the battlesuit I've started recently.

Here he is next to a stealthsuit painted last year:

And the very first tau model I've done which was the basic idea. It was based on some army presented on Gw's page, now removed I guess, and imo the battle scarred and military look of it is just great.

Thanks for checking the log, see you soon \o

08-11-2008, 12:23
Wow some brilliant stuff in here mate, the weathering on thhe suits is great, and the steel legion look fantastic too

Thanks sheep!

Last night I wanted to do something with greenstuff, and out of nowhere this guy got created. I'm not sure what regiment he is, what kind of armour is that or what to name him. He looks like some kind of heavy infantry but...we'll see. If it looks better when painted I might do some more.

I had a slight trouble with the gasmask early on. After trying one or two different concepts I stuck with something that looks like the cadian one.

Ohwell, up to you to like it or not, I'll get on with painting it.

Early stage armour and the horrible snout gasmask

And the final one for now!

Thanks for checking the log, and hope to see you soon \o

Great stuff Alpha. The weathered crisis suit is fantastic and i can't wait to see the guardsmen above done. The armor plating reminds me of the tau though :p.

10-11-2008, 07:38
The guardsmen looks great, the gas mask reminds me of the ones used by F14 fighter pilots, or tie fighter pilots lol.

I'd go with carapace armour, drop troops and chem inhalers for doctrines, hideously expensive, but they won't run away :)

Slapped on some paint;

He looks alright I guess, GS work is a bit rough on the edges but I'm nowhere near where I want to be with gs craftsmanship, hopefully these exercises will get me there

I guess it can be carapace Sheep, but I really hate the idea of drugging my soldiers, I guess it can be a heavy infantry force, kinda like shock troopers cadians should be with proper armour, I also remembered some regiment called volpone(?) bluebloods, I recall them from gaunts ghosts novels I've read back in the day, so...it could be them if painted like that. Although I'm not sure if they use hellguns or lasguns.

Anyways back to workbench, I'll try to create some more, thanks for checking the log and see you soon \o

Great job man! I really love the first Assault guy.. The chain sword looks.... Mean.. :P Keep it up man. I hope to see more of the heavy IG guys too.

This log is absolutely mantastic. Need moar, please.

I get a sort of Tau Auxiliary feel from out gas-masky friend. Also, points for Steel Legion.

12-11-2008, 01:44
Chookie, I'd scrape off the Imperial marks and repaint him, make him a gue'la aux for your tau battlesuit.

Its been a while, unfortunatly I lost my interest on the hobby lately due to reallife issues, but I think I'm back for good.

First, I must say DoW2 really got me excited again about eldar. I've always loved playing eldar on multiplayer on dow series, and finally it got me excited enough to atleast try to start an army (yet again).

I do not have a name for my craftworld yet, but basically I'm thinking about a really small one, infact so low on population that they refuse to use guardians in the army, just relying on aspect warriors. I disliked the idea of eldar using the citizens in the army with 5+ armour while being the dying race all along, and I refuse to use them. I also want to paint all of the aspect warriors in the colours of the army, not having each unit different colours, so it goes well with their fluff of having just aspect warriors.

Anyways I'll add more to the fluff as we go on, naming characters and such, I'll give you several photos of what I've been experimenting lately, I hope you like them =)

Here's my farseer, I cut the thingy on his helmet and the paroah beard on the chin because I thought it made his head look really big. The rest was painted quite quickly, but I think the purple/white scheme looks very well from a distance.

Here are the shining spears WIP, I'm planning on having 3 of these guys + the autarch on bike with them. I've always loved this unit and I think they're ignored on most armies who use harlequins, which is another fantastic CC unit. I'm not sure about the lances colour, I might make it metallic like the default scheme, or keep it bone like this.

I'll add more in the following days, I hope you like them =)
C&C is most welcome, laters \o

Hey again,

After giving some thought on how much I love the jetbikes, we discussed the making of this army with some of my friends, and I turned to Saim-hann craftworld.

I repainted the jetbikes so far, still going for the all-same colour aspect warriors though (I believe the only ones I'll be using are avangers and spears)

I hope you like them;

Next on the list are the riders of these 2 + autarch..

And the shining spears done,

Been a long time since I took a good look at your log, Alphachicken, but I’m happy that you decided to finally stay in the hobby. Is crucial that you keep your own inspiration at top to keep focused or at least that’s my 5 cents, having recently figured out that -I-munda is my own way to keep going. Keep up the good work and I hope Il will see some of your “Alphachicken-Trademark” converting, Eldar style, soon.

07-03-2009, 13:40
Thanks a lot Slobomeister, it's been some time since someone wrote something, I was starting to think about dropping the log :(

Mini update for today, I made my first troop-choice jetbike rider, with a shruiken cannon. I converted the cannon from the guardian support platform gun, since there's no cannon bike model anymore, and I had to swap the rider with a proper guardian since the jetbike rider models are almost 20 years old now, and they're showing their age.

More to come later, thanks for watching the log :)

07-03-2009, 15:09
Could you take a picture to show the size comparison between your true scale marine, an imperial guard, an eldar, a tau, and any other races you might own ?

07-03-2009, 15:17
I hope this helps;

08-03-2009, 19:30
Some updates, I painted 2 more bikes and a vyper jetbike;

Next up, more bikes!

12-03-2009, 23:57
Hey again,

Been a busy week, I've completed 4 more bikes, and started on dire avangers now, since I'm rather tired of painting bikes for a bit =)

I haven't done the head rune yet, but this' how the colours will work. I hope you like him. I'd appreciate if someone could write something, self posting 3 times really feels horrible, feel free to comment or crit the models :)

13-03-2009, 00:03

How are you doing my friend... Keeping well?

Havent you been a busy boy of late? These eldar are coming along somewhat faster than my green skins...

Possitive points...

The red is so Rich and Vibrant... Really stands out and the whole Sain Haim thing looks and works so well. The vipers and jetbikes are great, and good work on the decals to get them looking so good and straight... (unless htey are hand painted... in which case wow...)

The Avenger youve done looks good too...

on the avenger you have clearly used a wash or something to get the recesses back...

on the bikes, the red looks flat... are you planning to try and get the recesses back on the bikes via washes?

All in all breath taking... good work Alpha

my name is Daniel and i am a wargamer

Hey gonzosbignose,

Thanks for taking an interest, yeah the symbols on the bikes are all freehand, the waterslides just didn't work for me very well, and after doing couple of snakes, your hand gets used to it

About the blacklining, yeah I used the new citadel washes on the bike riders/avangers. I'm really unsure about using it on vehicles though, it may look good, or it may remove the all "shiny" look of them. I'll probably paint the next Vyper with lining/shading and see how it looks, since the vyper model has the most lines on it, and if that works out well I can just go back and shade the old ones.

13-03-2009, 01:19
The Eldar look really good, a further accent on the red might make them even better. The symbols look flawless, really impressive. Also the first time that I see a red Dire Avenger. Are all of the Avengers going to have red and white helmets or are will there be black and white ones, too? At the moment I am undecided what I would prefer, although with black, I think, the eye lenses would come out better.

13-03-2009, 18:09
Hello, thanks for the comments :)

I played around the idea of making them with black masks, but after a while I decided to make them red like this. One of the sabertooth card games had a saim-hann dire avangers illustration on it like this, which I always loved :

Today I sat down and painted 4 more, they're all mising the helmet rune which I'll do when all 10 are finished. I also bought the wave-serpent they will be riding but it has to wait after easter to be done.

As always C&C are very welcome, hope to see you soon \o

13-03-2009, 18:51
Really nice Saim-hann. I like the powerfull red. A thought, how about painting some light dust and grime around the air intakes?
Nice mouse btw, Death adder ftw ;)

13-03-2009, 18:57
Thanks for the picture with size comparison. That marine is really huge compared to a normal one !

14-03-2009, 10:25
Fantastic looking Saim Hann, especially the avengers in a red scheme look sick :p

15-03-2009, 16:24
Great work pal. I suscribe totally to 'realistic' sized Astartes, yours are so perfectly executed!

Please continue to show us this kind of work :)

16-03-2009, 18:39
Cool new stuff man. You’re going to be able to pull off a few stunts with all them bikes. But... thats not the limited collector’s edition GoW2 "miniature" I spot?

06-05-2009, 20:46
Well a big update time.

The codex is out, the valkyrie is out, and I'm....tempted.

I could post some more wip pics, but there's the 4 pic limit. It was probably one of the most fun kits I've ever done, and I enjoyed it deeply. The side doors can slide, heavy bolters can pop out of them. The cockpit was especially done well, as an owner of the old FW kit, I hated it, and this one had plastic side pieces to paint seperately, which helped a lot. Theres still a valkyrie freehand to do on the nose, but I couldn't resist putting up some pics!

I hope you like it :D

06-05-2009, 21:39
that interior lighting looks fantastic... a quick rundown of how you did it? pretty please? :D

06-05-2009, 23:11
Thanks rewolf31;

I hope this helps, I basically marked where the overhead lights would be which you can see on the edges of the hull. Then I made an imaginery invert V, started going down with dark blue, then lighter, then lighter, gradually almost white. It was an experimental thing for me aswell but I think it looks realistic enough, Just think about where the light would be reflected from.

And I finished the model with a simple noseart.

wow thats awesome!

How did you paint the brown?

Also thoose stormies look verry goood! Could you also give me a run down on how you painted them?

07-05-2009, 03:23
I must say the interior lighting effect is very interesting. It makes me want to buy my own Valkyrie just to try it out myself. ;)

11-05-2009, 05:05
awesome work!

12-07-2009, 17:54
Stuff looks awesome man.. Definatly subbed so I can keep viewing the great stuff you are producing

17-09-2009, 02:21
Thanks for all the nice comments, unfortunatly I was on summer holiday for 2 months, and couldn't check warseer much!

wow thats awesome!

How did you paint the brown?

Also thoose stormies look verry goood! Could you also give me a run down on how you painted them?

The brown is graveyard earth, highlighted with bleechedbone/Graveyard earth mix, and shaded with devlan mud.

The kasrkin were catachan green/graveyard earth basecoated. I did the highlights with same colours mixed with bleeched bone. Then I shade with devlan mud, as always. This "3" paint way makes it look quite realistic, and the matte colours go well with the "serious realistic guard" feel.

I actually painted a second Valkyrie during my holiday, I'll take some shots of it if I can and post them :)

Its 2 weeks till I move back to london for the last year of university, I hope to remake spacewolves again, which was my first army. I guess I'll be on warseer again then!
