Making this poll for a friend deciding between armies. It's either...

A. Tyranids ( Tyranid Hive Mind Brood + Tyranid Endless Swarm + Carnifex +Hive Flying Tyrant ) 350$ Approx.

B Space Marines (Space Marine Battle Company) 450$ Approx.

He has played almost every army out there, and wants to finally buy and army and stick to it.

My votes for the nids, more models, more fun, and cheaper.

I would go with Nids since they are as common as Marines are.

Tyranid.. because endless swarms of bugs are awesome and full of win.

if he is okay with a real non-humanlike army (in ways of conversions..) iŽd say go for nids - they are quite fun and always hungry :)

I say 'nids, 'cause nids have wee gribblies.

As a 'nid played I have to say 'nids. In my experience Tyranids have a lot more room for creativity than space marines when it comes to painting and modeling

Tyranids, they are just alot more fun to paint IMHO.

Nids

Just make sure he picks out a really good paint scheme for those nids or has a excellent painter.

Indeed, everyone has a space marine army. Nids for teh winz!!!11

And they are a really cool, characterful, fun army with lots of options. Marines, on the other hand, have.... marines.

I'm sure it's been mentioned, but the battle company comes with so many things you'll never use(like so many extra rhinos), that unless you play a special scenario you'll never put them on the table. With different builds for the Nids, he could spend that extra $100 on other units to round out his force and have a few different builds going.
Nidzilla, Gene Machine, and Quick Lic being just a few options for him.

nid's, more flexibility, much more fun to paint and marines are everywhere

'NIDS, 'NIDS, 'NIDS!!!

If there is EVER a choice between someone starting with Space Marines or anything else, always go with anything else. Because there are thousands of people who don't ask, and they pick Space Marines. I'm big on variety. Not that I would ever use xenos scum... but if someone else doesn't care, choose the non-Marine so we can increase our choice for slaughter.

Well I 2 armies (Tyranids and Marines)

So before I shout one or the other let me ask you to ask your friend to consider the following before making the decision:

1) Does he play most of his games at home, nearby or away at a club?
2) Of the regular guys he plays against do any regularly play marines or nids?
3) What is his painting skill like and does he enjoy painting?
4) Does he have time for long battles or does he prefer shorter ones?
5) What aspect of the game does he prefer, shooting or assault?
6) Can he handle huge casualties or does he prefer to hold on to his troops?
7) Does he plan to keep evolving the army or find a combination that works and stick with it?

Now for the analysis. Depending on what answers were given you can add or subtract one point, so:

1) If you answer home or nearby -1 if you answer away at a club +1
2) If some play marines -1 if some play nids +1
3) If he is a decent painter or enjoys the painting -1 otherwise +1
4) If he prefers longer battles -1 otherwise +1
5) If he prefers close combat -1 otherwise if he prefers to shoot +1
6) If he can handle losing lots of troops -1 otherwise if he panics easily +1
7) If he wants to keep building and changing his army -1 otherwise +1

Now add up your score.

-7 to -2 Another devourer is among us, go get em tiger, *hiss*.
-1 to +1 You are indecisive, just make a choice already and be a man.
+2 to +7 The Adeptas are calling you my battle brother, heed their call.

Does this help you?

Looks like the power of maths has compelled yet another to the foul xeno cults.

Thats a pretty hardcore way of choosing an army alphastealer, I just navigate towards teh fluff.
