I'm no 40K newb, but can anyone define these acronyms for me? I've looked in the glossary and made forum searches without any luck.

RAW = Rules as written.

RAI = Rules as intended.

Does exactly what it says on the tin.

I'll illustraite with a few well know examples.

Quote from rule book, paraphrased.
"Units carrying rapid fire weapons may not assualt"

RAW-rules as written approach. Your tactical marines and Guardsmen may now never assult, as they are carrying rapid fire weapons.

RAI- Rules as intendended- Read this line as "Units firing rapid fire weapons that turn may not assualt."

Another good one is Codex Space marines. The unit entry for terminators does not list them as having Terminator armour.
RAW- Terminators don't have Terminator armour
RAI- Yes, they do.

There are many clearly silly things brough up by RAW, but where intention is unclear, it's the best we've got to play by. It does often end up turning on one word, phases, or comma, which may or may not have been though about, correctly proofr-read, or even been meant to be read as rules, rather than background.

Sorry for being vague, that above description covers all the bases quite well.

you will also find that a lot of the 'common ones' that we use on her turn Blue, if you hove over it, then it shoudl bring a Glossary Box up saying whats meant.

for example if i typed: BT it should turn blue and then say Black Templars... (or some such other thing thats has BT in there name)
