View Full Version : Anvil without the line

So semi inspired by the gun line thread on the general discussions forum and wanting to find a use for the large blocks of infantry I have painted for my dwarves I put the following together. Basically I took my gun line list, kept my runelord composition and put some infantry blocks around it.

General purpose is to suprise my opponent by being as mobile as possible for a dwarf army.....

Comments on its composition and the perceived weak spots would be most welcome.

Runelord: Bruenor Goldenhammer.
Armour: Rune of stone.
Weapon: Rune of Fury and Rune of Cleaving.
Staff: Master Rune of Balance, 2 * Run of spellbreaking

Thane: Beltar Goldenhammer
BSB: Strollaz Rune

Thane: Gunrig Goldenhammer
Weapon: Master rune of swiftness, 2 * Rune of Cleaving
Armour: Rune of Stone

20 Warriors:
Shields, Standard bearer and musician

20 Warriors:
Shields, Standard bearer and musician

15 Longbeards:
Shields, standard bearer and musician

14 Hammerers:
Shields, Full command
Master Rune of Grungi

14 Iron breakers:
Full command
Rune of determination

10 Troll slayers

6 Miners

The idea is

Refuse a flank and set the Hammerers up in the centre of the line with the BSB and Strollz them, the 2 warrior units, the long beards and the Iron breakers forward 6". The anvil then uses the run fat boy run ;) rune to keep the lads moving forward.

Slayers anchor the refused flank to prevent fast cav getting around the back

Miners are there to hunt war machines and lone wizards

18" move in the first turn. For once as a dwarf player I want to go 2nd :D

No warmachines eh? You're a bold man Murdoch.

No black powder at all.

Thought the combination of the anvil and the BSB to move 18" in turn 1 would be good for the surprise factor involved! Get ancestral power off and you have a brettonian style 1st turn charge..... Assuming I go second and my opponent doesn't twig.

Is there any way to fit in MroChallenge or anything of that nature? It never hurts to have one of those in a Marching Dwarf army.
Also, Have you considered putting in your thane in your Warrior units? Hammerers and Ironbreakers are tough enough on their own to hold out against anything short of Chaos knights.

Other than that. I can't really think of anything to add.
