Let's say a Giant charges a unit of Dwarves. The Dwarves take their terro rtest and roll a 12. They flee only 3" This means that the Giant in moving 12" to charge would still hit this unit. what happens

(A) Dwarves are wiped out
(b) Dwarves flee again

It would seem to be A to me, but if a unit had fled the turn before and then was charged by the Giant they would flee. However fleeing twice in a turn seems kind of strange.

Thanks for any help and polite replies :)

A - very simple: A chargee who is caught by the charger while fleeing from it, is destroyed.

Option A is in fact correct. You definately don't/can't flee twice from the same initial charge. Some people do place extra limits on only one flee per turn or phase though.

Failing the Terror test when charged makes the unit perform a normal Flee! charge response.

If this had been the Dwarfs' turn and they failed a Terror test taken due to proximity to the Giant or due to having declared a charge against it AND the Giant somehow managed to charge them in that same turn, then they would make a second flee move.

Yes option A is correct.

The reason:

1) A unit that *responds to a charge declaration* by fleeing and is caught by *its* chargers is destroyed. - Pg 22 Caught

2) A unit that fails its Terror or Fear test must "change its charge response" to flee. pg 51

3) Therefore fleeing from a failed Fear or Terror test is not an additional flight but the same as the charge response. The unit can therefore be 'Caught'.

Yes, of course.

I didn't read the original post as this situation, but now I re-read, the OP could may well have meant this situation:

Failed Terror test at the start of the Dwarf player's turn - and a charge by the Giant in the Giant's players next turn, while the Dwarfs are still broken.

Yes, then the Dwarfs will make another flee move (albeit in a different turn).
