Hi all I'm not really super smart with computers but while I was over my girl friends house I noticed that her pc has a program and external gauge that tells the temperature of the motherboard. I was wondering if a device like that could be modded onto a 360 to prevent it from overheating, or at least knowing when you should turn it off.

The answer is yes, basically take a thermometer and stick it on the back grill of your x-box and thats it.

once the temp gets above say 50 degrees, turn it off.

you cant mod one into the chipset itself as it invalidates your warraty and you would have to have an external indicator anyway.

I think I've seen some one build in an internal thermometer lcd. But then he also water cooled his 360 :p.

i always get confused with these topics. my 360 has never overheated...ever...nor even come close, and i play it pretty heavily...AND it's a launch 360.

I mean it's loud as all hell...but that's it really.

Mine is on my desk where it can get plenty of air instead of being placed inside a TV cabinet where it is slowly choked of fresh cool air until its insides melt. Not had a problem yet.
