Thanks for looking and commenting!

After my successful scratchbuild of some droppods (http://warseer.com/forums/showthread.php?t=127299), I have been inspired to convert a larger version of the Landraider to house my WIP Command squad for my Ultramarine army. Both the land raider and command squad will be posted in this thread over the coming months.

In the photos, the larger raider is obviously the one on the left, although the one of the right is also undergoing rennovating, the classic Ultramarine commander is shown for scale.

The main chassis has been hacked in two and enlarged to house new artboard and cities of death building components. The lascannon sponsons are scratch built from plasticard and are of the old-school sponson variety as I see this vehicle as an old relic from the Golden days when the Emporer was still alive.

I plan to make the door so that they can swing open (but have yet to realise how....suggestions would be welcome)

Only suggestion so far is that the true-scale sponsons look like they could have bigger Lascannons.

Otherwise, it's looking good.:)

would the guns actually be bigger in theory I mean a lascannon is a lascannon

Luke

Only one solution, more lascannons! lol. Chunk it up, go for it man.

22-02-2008, 20:48
Wow! Went for a bathroom break and so many people have replied. :)

Thanks for your comments so far.

I agree with starlight that the lascannons look a little small (althought the landraider is not intended to be truescale, just a larger kick-a** chassis version). However after a quick glance at the forgeworld website and their old-school sponsons, I think that the problem may be that the lascannon barrels are too close together since I took them off of some (now rather annoyed) Dreadnoughts. So me thinks I will try to re-model them so that they are slightly further apart.

Synapse: It was your amazing truescale work that inspired me to do mine (in fact I think I said that somewhere in your World Eaters thread). Except that since I didn't fancy building a whole army and a random squad in truescale would look a little odd, therefore a command squad seemed like the best solution.

I will pull together some sort of fluff for the command squad at a later date.

Don't worry about the weaponsizes, GW tends to make their weapons way too large anyways!

Hello there, here's an update:

1. This is the reworked twin linked lascannon sponson, as you can see I've increased the gap between the barrels and filled it in with square pasti-rod.

2. Heavy Bolter turret, sticking with guns I've put together the Turret, I will add a protective wall around it later.

Slaaaaaanesh
24-02-2008, 20:29
Continued from above........

3. I have found hindges from a local model shop which means that the doors can now open and close, however that does mean that the interior has to be finished so this is what the interior looks like so far.

4. This shot is of the Landraider from behind, nothing exciting just patched up the gaps with board

5. For those who are curious this is what the hinges look like. Tha company name is Kavan, a German company who make fine models accessories, the website looks to be, Kavan (http://www.kavanrc.com)

Slaaaaaanesh
24-02-2008, 20:33
Sorry for the triple post, this is the last lot for now.

6. A shot of the roof. I have added lights which are cut from the Cities of death skirting peices.

7. A final image to show how the tank looks at the moment.

Still to add is a storm bolter on the roof, interior detal, and rear doors.

Have a good week everybody! :)

I'm diggin' the pulpit thing on top. If you wanted to be really awesome you would leave off the sponsons and just put four lascannon devastators up there instead.

Slaaaaaanesh
27-02-2008, 22:45
I've had to redo the landraider main doors and been picking up bits and bobs from my bits box for the raider's interior.

I have also begun on the truescale command squad which will total ten men.

Here is the WIP veteran in an action pose, and a scale shot against a classic Ultramarine captain.

Thats a decent sized SM. Some people end up doing 'truescale' marines massively oversized, but that looks just right.

Hi Guys,

Here's an update, I've mainly been tidying up details around the chasis, and interior.

1. I've completed the areas behind the side sponsons with doors and end detail from the COD buildings. (you may of noticed that I have ripped the components off of my other landraider shown in the first post)

2. On the pulpit area I have mounted the Heavy bolter turret to the chasis, and added a Storm bolter. Decorative bracing sections have been added.

3. As I mentioned in an earlier post, the doors have been re-worked and open and stay closed much more satisfactory now. I've also added COD component detail at the track guard area.

I will be sculpting purity seals and Ultramarine iconography on doors and other areas with green stuff and going over gaps with milliput.

Would anybody be able to suggest other details that I could add, does the Raider look Gothic enough?

Next update should be the interior.

Son of the Lion

Oh I say, very well done chap. This is exactly how a landraider should look. The
comparatively smaller size of the lascannons looks fine to me - as has been mentioned above, GW have gone overboard with the scale of their weapons for a while now.

Spot on, keep it up.

I've been busy working and modelling away and have now condensed all the 40k related modelling into this thread with a contents page at post #1. I am currently using my webcam as my digital camera has gone on the fritz! So please excuse the slightly blurry pics for now.

So without further ado an update for the Enlarged landraider.

I have undercoated the model and have greenstuffed some Ultramarine icons for the rear access doors.

Double posting as I bring you up to date with the Droppods.

I have added the circular exhausts near the base of the pods as well as white undercoating.

Here are some shots of the still work in progress crashed Reaver Titan head.

I have tried to bring across the feeling that the head has been ejected deliberately from the body after recieving critical damage. That is why a the cables ends look so clean.

The first and second pictures show the head and base, the Tau are investigating the head for technology to steal. :)

The third is a frontal shot of the face, I've tried hard to distinguish the helmet and cockpit sections.

The final shot is of is supposed to be the little bird from the Warhammer Giant ontop of some oil barrels eyeing up the Titan.

As always comments and criticisms welcome.

19-04-2008, 00:04
What if you add a large parachute on the ground next to it? Have the parachute chords draped over the head and leading down to the ground next to the chute. Maybe half deflated air bags on the ground under the head too. It would be kind of similar to the ejection system on a F-111 fighter bomber.

Slaaaaaanesh
19-04-2008, 11:11
macattac: Nice suggestions, in flight peanuts...lol :p

Tommygun: Thanks for the suggestion. The parachute for the titan head is very interesting, I never knew that research had been made for real aircraft. I just thought that it was individual ejector seats for the pilots. Maybe I should model the Princeps flailing in the air, having being ejected post landing! :D

I will think about it as the head has currently been modelled to look like it landed and then skidded for a short distance, burying itself into the mud. I suppose the parachute could still be deployed to act as a retarding device.

Caption competition ends at the end of this weekend.

Hurray, I've actually picked up the paintbrush and finished my Droppods.

I'm pretty happy with them, but the highlights need thinning down and I'm umming about painting on some black and yellow hazard stripes on the 'frame areas' like Forgeworld have done.

:edit 24/04/08: I'm trying to embed image in my posts from picasa. Would anybody be able to help me trim down to the correct code. The drop pods looks great. The only thing I would suggest is smoke and burn marks on the bottom with smoke streaks going up the sides. Weathering powders or black art's chalk is good for this.

Thank you for your comment, not rude at all any input is appreciated. Is there a particular area where it looks thin? I guess the doors could do with one more layer of card.

Thanks for the advise on the further weathing and burn mark advice. I agree that the bottom should have darker smoke marks, this is my first foray into weathering a large model so I will try out some of your suggestions. Are there any good weather/ smoke damage tutorials out there?

Thanks Brother xavier, and hashmallum. Yes I made the pods myself, I had originally posted the WIP build pictures in another thread, but have combined all the 40k related posts into one thread.

Update:

I managed to paint on someof the hazard strips on the side of the frame sections, painting yellow was much easier than I thought. Two thin coats of sunburst yellow applied over white.

I then painted added more black drybrushing further up the doors and engine exhausts to finish the droppods off! Phew......

Tommygun
01-05-2008, 13:17
Those are nice looking pods. The burn marks make them look nice and toasty. And with the warning strips, no one will bump there heads on the way out of the pods.:D

Slaaaaaanesh
02-05-2008, 08:12
Thanks again Tommygun, without the hazard strips the droppod looked a little bland so for anybody who is thinking of making one, definitely add these little details.

Krootman, the templates can be found if you google 'droppod ' and it should be the santacruz blogspot webpage. There also WIP and comparison shots with forgeworld dropods.

Update:
I should really go and finish off that Landraider....

I've decided to finish off a squad off of custodian guard which I started about a year ago. Even though there a few small details to paint in, gems etc, I'm pleased with how the gold armour turned out.

I though gaming wise that they could be used with the Legion of the Damned apocalypse datasheet. So I would be needing to convert a commander, five terminators and a dreadnought. :p

Any other ideas on how they can be fielded? (as in substituting in either a space marine or witch hunters army list)

Shadowphrakt
02-05-2008, 16:42
You could field them as Grey Knights. Just a suggestion. The drop pods look ace BTW.

Slaaaaaanesh
05-05-2008, 22:22
Using the custodians as Grey knights could be an idea, thanks Shadowphrakt.

Update: Landraider. I have to sand the filler sections down and then painting can commence!

The overall scheme will be gold and Ultramarine blue detail areas over a black base.

Fantastic looking models.
I think that they'd work pretty good as Grey Knights.

Or deathwatch (greyknights being illegal in SM armies IIRC)...

You can take Grey Knight units as allies in a SM list. It's listed as one of the 'simplest' way to start using them, in the Daemonhunters Codex, if you already have an Imperial 40k army.

Nice work all around... I'm a little concerned about the Ultramarine logos, though. The skull in the center makes them look entirely too much like Khornate tributes, and that's just not right!

Interesting size increase for the land raider. My jury's still out on the sponsons, but it looks pretty good overall

I suppose in a friendly game the coolness of the models should be ok for counts as terminators.

I know what you mean about the skull, I was trying to go for the Ultramarine icons from Forgeworld. Kicking myself for not buying any when recently at the Forgeworld openday. :(

I think that the sponsons will hopefully look a lot better once the paint scheme thats rolling in my head for the tank is applied....fingers crossed!

Wow, great models. I love the custodes and the drop-pods. :)
What are they made from btw?

The Custodians are made from a combination of High elf spearmen (wing icons, helmets, spear shafts), and chaos space marine components (bolters, legs, arms and bodies, backpacks with upturned vents), with a bit of plasticard and greenstuff. Oh and a Chaos warrior cape and Black Templar powerfist for the sergeant.

This is my dreadnought/venerable dreadnought notice the Axe of Ultramar on the top to signifiy suggest at who is inside. The whole chest bit will be gold with the rest of the model's trim gold'ed' up also. The floating smoke launcher will be positioned just in front of the Axe once it has been painted.

http://lh5.ggpht.com/thebobonator/SCHoF-E0AQI/AAAAAAAAAG8/xfds_xW9eFA/s800/quadbikeweapon.jpg

I am also working on a new quadbike made from additional dark angel bits with relevant chapter icons removed, but I don't know what should be in his right arm. I'm thinking Ultramarine banner or icon (preferable since my freehand sucks)

Edit 090508: I have just bought another few bikers to go with him he will be the powerfist sergeant.

Your Venerable dreadnought is much better than the GW one I think. I always thought the GW Venerable dreadnought was a bit odd looking. Maybe you could add just a small amount of silver high light on the gold of the dread. Interesting picture of Calgar. I hope that's not you he is about to stomp.

It's been a while since an update so here is a montage of shots of a Tau Tigershark that I scratchbuilt over the bank holiday.

This is the first of the my Tau army that I will be tidying up and posting on this thread.

http://lh5.ggpht.com/thebobonator/SED3kurqTgI/AAAAAAAAAK8/mUgmD0ASKXs/s800/Tau%20Tigershark%20WIP.jpg

Again it was made from artcard layers super glued together, polyfiller is then added and sanded to smooth out the edges. I still need some seeker missiles to mount onto the bottom, and smooth up the cockpit area. Smaller details were constructed out of plasti rod shapes.

It's a little different to the Forgeworld models but I have reasoned that this is an experimental version.

:Tommygun: Thanks for the comments, I guess it's more of a cry for help 'AAAArgh you are on me leg you big blue Oaf!'.

Tommygun

I think this is the first hand made Tigershark I have seem. A very faithful representation of it. I know it is very challenging to do curved lines. You have done a great job of it. Do you have to use a paint sealer over the polyfill?

Dictator
31-05-2008, 18:25

Thanks for the comments, I am rather pleased with the Tigershark, those two Ion cannons were sat in my bits box taunting me for ages to do one! :) I have used polyfiller on the enlarged landraider and was able to paint straight over it after a GW black undercoat, so it should not cause too many issues.

:reply to Dictator:
Thank you also for your comments particularly the one about the forgeworld tigershark comparison. There are subtle differences in the details but the shape and weapons layout were based on scaled up blueprints from the Tau Forgeworld book.

With regards to the Dreadnought, I have painted a lighted colour on the banner, and have compiled a mock battle scene for you to enjoy.

I've begun on a WIP converted commander based on the Dark crusade battlesuit. The conversion is made from a battlesuit, and stealth suit bits, inspiration was taken from the French GW website:

http://fr.games-workshop.com/40k/tau/modelisme/o_kais/index.asp

http://lh5.ggpht.com/thebobonator/SEL2OOrqTiI/AAAAAAAAALo/wLku4msPz0w/s400/battlesuit%20leader.jpg

The other two are WIP conversions from the remaining stealth suits and two Tau sniper spotters. I was going to convert them into experimental battlesuits, but they are too thin to house Tau pilots. So I was thinking that they could be shield drones, or proxy Tau Remora drones thin and nimble remote controlled (hence the enlerged helmet area) drone robots who are able to jump/fly with stealth capabilities..

Not good unfortunately, I've recently been building loads of models and even started a Tyranid army (which I will post below).

Update:

As mentioned above I have recently started to build a 1000 point Tyranid army.

http://lh3.ggpht.com/thebobonator/SFlyq6MO_RI/AAAAAAAAAN0/oa4bQ8smg6o/s800/gaunts%20and%20warriors%20assembled.jpg

These are all the Gaunts and Tyranid warriors, ready for priming and painting. Also a taster of my flyrant in the top right corner.

http://lh3.ggpht.com/thebobonator/SFlydvgjR0I/AAAAAAAAANk/f51_DznHaBU/s800/baby%20tyranid%20warriors%202.jpg

Here are a close up of the 'Baby' Tyranid warriors. I made them out of Gaunt bodies.

Fluff wise these warriors are wtill in training so to speak, or some form of prototype. Becasue the head is a lot smaller there is no space for the Synapse implants. That is where the extra Synapse genus ripper comes into play, they are attached to the Warrior untill it has grown enough to absorb the Synapse upgrade into it's body.

As a bonus the Ripper attachment brings the model up to roughly the height of a normal warrior, so it's should be game legal. Would you allow me to use them in a game?

http://lh3.ggpht.com/thebobonator/SFlyh_Y-VmI/AAAAAAAAANs/F_VYcq6sA34/s800/baby%20tyranid%20warrior%20base.jpg

I've also attached a picture of the bases for the warriors as I think that they are quite nifty. I read on the net that if you drip superglue onto PVA glue, then the resultant reaction leaves a nice organic finish. After that you can add the sand and other fauna.

All the bases in the Tyranid army will have this base style.

The rest of the army will consist of a Flyrants and carnifexes. I will post the army list in a bit for people to critique it.

Thank you for taking the time to look and comment.

Hi there, I have made a massive effort to paint up all these gaunts as I feared that if left to sit on the shelf that they would never be painted!

So with the new leviathan purple wash in hand, here are the Gaunts:

Good point, I saw the effect on a scratchbuild eldar titan project log and thought that I should give it a go. I won't be doing it again, white backgrounds are the way to go.

Update:

Here is the 1000pt (aproximately) army list as promised.

1 x Flyrant: Winged Toxic Miasma, Implant Attack, Toxin sacks, 2 x Sything talons
3 x Warriors: Deathspitters, sything talons

8 x Genestealers: Extended carpace, Toxin sacks
8 x Gaunts: Flesh boreres
8 x Gaunts: Spinefists
8 x Gaunts: Spinefists
Hormagaunts: no additional upgrades

1 x Carnifex: Crushing Claws, Adrenal glands (+1 WS), Sything talons
1 x Carnifex: 2 x Sything talons, Acid maw, Adrenal glands (+1 WS)
1 x Carnifex: 2 x Sything talons, Adrenal glands (+1 WS)

I also have a Broodlord who I will be switching the warriors to allow the genestealers to infiltrate.

It is mainly there for casual gaming and to allow me to field cool conversions that I have been working on (the true inspiration for starting this army). With the new 5th edition changes will the army be effective?

:edit:
I will be removing the third carnifex in favour of the broodlord and a couple more gaunts.

I have scanned in the print out of my 'work' with the virtual cutting arm at the GW open day. The tool is fantastic, and I would love to have one at home to play with.

I began with a stock genestealer head, and as I remember used the following tools on him. The arm lets you feel the surface of the model on screen by providing force feedback.

Chisel: You can actually rotate the chisel 360 to change the cutting angle.
Drill: I used a ball shaped tool to pull horns out of his head. You can also start from beaneath the skin of the model and hollow sections out, before pulling the arm outwards to make a hole and reveal the freshly made chamber.
Spraypaint: you can obviously use this to colour components in, but usually the digital model will be sent to the relevant department to be rendered properly.

By pressing 'G' on the keyboard you could move the arm around to orientate the model and zoom in and out.

I just got hold of the chisel tool and hacked away. The force feedback on the arm is pretty darn cool, but you need to be patient with it.

Update:

I played a 1500 points battle with my Ultramarines against the Space Wolves yesturday and got completely annihilated! Gaming wise I didn't know much about SW so it was a major shock to see what ensued! Oh and did I mention they were 13th company.......

Turn one
Ultramarines, I move my two Razorbacks, Rhino, and two Predators 12 inches since we were too far apart to shoot yet! The space wolves then got a free move during every one of my shooting phases moving a total of 3D6! So the 15 strong unit of Fenrisian Wolves bounded 9inches towards my scouts.

Space wolves, psychic test passed, teleporting a unit of 15 Wulfen led by a space rune priest in terminator armour straight into the back of my predator. Apparently they were allowed to do that without deviating since the Psychic test was passed. The rune priest shoots his stormbolter and then they all weld into the back and sides of my tank. Despite needing 5's to glance and 6's to penetrate, the number of attacks were 4 x 15 = 60. Tank explodes, and the unit consolidates into my other predator. As you can see I did not know about this power so set up a defensive tank line, which was apparently perfect for Wulfen can opening season.

Turn Two,

Ultramarines, I shake my head and move my ramaining tanks 12 inches to get away. Fenrisian wolves together with the move during their turn have covered now about 36 inches in 2 turns (up stairs too) to reach my scouts. I proceed to shoot with my other unit of scouts and kill one regular space wolf marine.

Space wolves, psychic test passed, teleporting a unit of 15 Wulfen led by a space rune priest in terminator armour straight into the back of my predator. ........my tank explodes as they 'always' roll to hit on their WS even on a moving vehicle!!!!!! only one wulfen dies in the explosion due to their resistant power armour. Consolidate toward my rhino. His other troops advance their usual 12 inches rather than 6 inches as they are space wolves.

Turn Three,

As you can see the next fours turns were a bit of a farce. The SW troops advanced on me like they were on crazy juice, one unit all carrying power axes and other sergeants with power fists took down my remaining tanks. The teleporting runepriest and wulfen managed to counter everything I deepstriked onto the board, so bye bye, assault squad, and dreadnought.

Oh and I forgot about his wolf lord armed with terminator armour, rune charm, frost blade, and wolf tooth necklace. meant that all armour saves were rerolled, he ignored the first wound in any given turn, and the frost blade could kill anything on a wounding hit of 2+.

Oh and in case you were wondering the first squad of scouts hheld up the wolves for 2 turns of combat before being massacred which allowed the wolves to consolidate and then tear the next scout squad apart once they reached them.

----------------------------- Battle over after turn 6 ----------

Post match analysis:

Now I admit that rules 4th edition rules wise I am still having to refer to rule book regularly and I accepted the Space Wolves special rules as I trusted that my opponent would play fair. I didn't ask to see his codex for the same reason and didn't want to seem like I was rule lawyering.

So here is what I learnt from fighting space wolves:
1) The teleport 'gate' power from the wolf priest, should of followed the deepstrike rules ie scattered! (that meant that in turn one they could of been destroyed as my tanks were very near the board edge and terrain.)
2) As the gate power used the deepstrike rules when teleporting them, that unit cannot move that turn. Therefore all the wulfen should have stayed where they were while my tanks drove away blasting seven shades out of them!
3) Only Grey Slayers, Storm claws, or Long Fangs could have been teleported NOT Wulfen!
4) Fenrisian Wolf Pack CANNOT move in the opponents shooting phase! (even if they move as cavalry)
5) And the wolf pack move is on a D6 as per the fleet of foot rule.
6) The Frost Blade gives +1 strength with no save allowed, NOT kills anything on 2+
7) Runic charm: only re-roll 1 one failed armour save per battle. NOT every time! terminator armour, Wolf tooth necklace: always hit on a 3+, Wolf lord 75pts: the wolf lord DOES NOT have 6 wounds!
8) where is there a rule that allows Space wolves to move 12 inches in the movement phase and assault 6 inches in the assault phase!
9) units can only hit the tank on a 4+ if it moved up to 6 inches, a 6 if the tank moved up to 12 inches, and auto hit if the tank was stationary. (Therefore my tanks would not have suffered as much.)
10) five exploding tanks were the only things that killed anything ie a dozen wulfen. (a lot of sixes were rolled for penetrating hits due to the amount of attacks)

I would chalk this one up to a massive learning experience, and would probably play against this army again if the legitamate rules were used.

Question is would you play them again?

I think this happens a lot. Most people aren't trying to cheat, they just don't know the rules as well as they think they do. Trying to explain his misinterpretation of the rules, to someone you may not know very well would be awkward. You ether need to talk with him or create your own new chapter with "very" unique abilities.

Hi Tommygun,

I thought that I would give them the benefit of the doubt as his mini 40k rulebook was rather well thumbed, but still I think that the game would have been more competitive otherwise.

Have you ever walked out on someone mid game before? I though about it but obviously carried on till the end as even seeing five exploding tanks was quite a laugh.

Kasrkin
27-06-2008, 13:38
Woah, sounds rough. Personally I don't have any respect for someone who plays like that- surely he must have realised at some point that something was wrong, and that he was winning too easily. Sure, teleporting his Wulfen could have been a legitimate mistake, but moving infantry 12" a turn is pushing it IMO.

I had a simular experience at the hands of a dodgey Eldar player... completely at odds with my view of 'fun'. On the plus side however, it's hammered a need into my head to make sure my opponent is always having as good a time as me! Every cloud, I guess...

I have to say both your dreadnought and land raider are fantastic (especially the dread... I have a soft spot for Marine walkers, lol). Is the whole army going to be true-scale?

Just keep in mind that if use do use it, do it after you matt varnish your model. Otherwise you will simply dull out the gloss varnish ('ard coat)

I took these today at the Warhammer World launch event. Particularly love the three up battle scene that I posed.

pics:
1) three up battle!
2) death korp trench scene
3) Pappa nurgle, mainly because I asked about the slime effect and was told to use two part epoxy resin. As it dries you can tease it out and then a cause goopy effects. You can also add inks etc to them to tint the goo!
4) A tyranid skull on display in the WW store.
5) A life size plasma cannon, every half an hour the staff would ask people to target someone the WW hall, then roll a set of giant scatter dice. A (I think 60 inch) blast radius was then marked out, all person who was hit had to roll a 5+ invunlerable save. At the end of the day the person who killed the most people will win a prize. I fail my armour save when I was hit.
6) A Chaos guradsman peering through the fortress battlements and spying a Warhound coming to attack.

more images will be added as I photoshop them.

Thanks Eddon, As I remember:
Torso's and arms - Chaos space marines
Backpacks - Space marine backpacks witht the nozzles cut off and repositioned to be pointing upwards
Helmets - High Elf spearmen box set, this set also contained all the 'wing' like bits just trim the bits from the shield detail.
Force weapons - High elf spearmen poles with bolters added on.

I hope this helps.

So name suggestions for Bobblehead marine of NINE letters now please.

I've just had a search for Roman names on http://www.novaroma.org/nr/Choosing_a_Roman_name and found these:

'Capito' which means---> Big-headed
'Galeo' which means---> Helmet
'Varro' which means---> Block-head
'Lepidus' which means---> Charming, amusing
'Labeo' which means---> Prominent lips
'Fronto' which means---> Prominent forehead

I have joined the tale of 40k gamers as a way to get me a finished Ultramarine army. I tend to buy models and then get impatient after assembling them so give them a basic coat of paint ready for gaming.

What I want to do over the next couple of months is to finish off the models with highlights, battle damage, more interesting bases etc.... I've also not tried blending so I'd like to give this a try also.

Essentially this is a Space marine Armoured strike force, with a predator replacing the whirlwind because I don't have one. So thats a:

Landraider
5 man Terminator squad
2 ten man tactical squads with rhinos
1 command squad with razorback
2 three man bike squads
1 attack bike
1 Vindicator

This month I really want to finish that damn enlarged Landraider, it really is a labour of love, and with the new LOS rule I'm not even sure if it's going to be that helpful on the tabbletop but hey ho.

Given the stuff that I have waiting for me Warhammer fantasy this is going to be a lot of 'work' so your support will be greatly welcome.

Now off to watch the last episode of Topgear!

That's great Slaaaaaanesh. All my sculpts look like Gumby .
That is an idea, how about a Nurgle Gumby Prince? ;)
I vote for Capito or Varro for the name.
Are you going to paint him with the newer Ultramarine colors or the old school one with red gun and yellow shoulder trim?

Slaaaaaanesh
28-07-2008, 08:45
Thanks Tommygun, I think that I will paint Captain Capitus (as I think that I will call him now as it is quite fitting) in the newer gold trim colours with black bolter housing.

I will get some green stuff warmed up right now and have a crack at sculpting the name.

Here is the name sculpted onto the plinth. I didn't go for any fancy gothic text for my first go at this, and am pretty happy how the letters came out.

Haha, weebles.... Well spotted on the button dude, when pressed it says 'You've got the sonic and I've got the boom!' which is kinda what Cyborg from the teen titans says. Either way I wish I had the technical knowhow to change the chip etc to make it say 'Faith is my shield' or something recorded off of Dawn of war.

Obviously once he is full painted I will make a longer vid. Maybe film him on the dashboard as I drive around.

Does anybody have any ideas on other locations I could film him at or funny things that he can be doing?

Wooohooooo, I like this midget Marine, definitly one of the funniest convertions I have ever seen. ^^

I also like this upscaled Land Raider, would fit my upscaled Termies also good paintjobs till now. Aaaaaaand last but not least good job on the letters for "Capitus", capitus is in some way related to Latin .... comes from "capere" me thinks, but ATM I have no idea what that was translated.

Enough from me right now. :D

Thanks Lu&Pu, I've been a follower of your thread for a while now nice truescale marines.

I got the word capito from a Roman names website (see post# above) and it is apperently a nickname for 'Big headed' so I thought that it suited quite well. So I changed it a bit to Capitus which sound more like a 40k marine name. I've never studied Latin but I will do some searching about that word to further my Latin knowledge.

loving it. hmm, not quite Bob though is he?

You should have seen how little head movement he had before I spent the other morning widening the gaps around the base of the head! I would prefer to have a more manic noddy bobby head-y but still he does shake his head well! :)

Oh, thank you, didnīt know that your do that. ^^

Up to some Latin right? Actually I learned it for four years and wrote my "little latin" but didnīt used it for more than a year now.
Anyway looked up the word "capere" which means "to conquer" or "to grasp".

Your version is the right one, because "Capitus" may come from "caput, capitis" which means "head" or "capital".

Mmmmh thatīs it I guess. ^^

I've been working on the Landraider today and It's starting to look a lot nicer. I thing that I will give highlighting a go tomorrow and then post some pics.

Bobblehead wise I have primed him and will get started on the paint job soon.

-------------------------------------------------------------

I also recently had my second 5th edition game with my freshly painted Tyranids. It was a three way annihilation game against Dark Angels and Chaos, as they are my regular friendly opponents. I won by one kill point, the final score being 5 : 4 : 3 to Tyranids : Chaos : Dark Angels respectively.

One highlights included:
Seeing a whole combat squad of Dark angels get pie plated off the board in turn one by a Defilers battlecannon!

my four bases of Rippers wipe out the three remaining Chaos marines (literaly rolled 1,1,2 for the three 3+ power armour saves! Then went on to maul a Chaos sorcerer in the final turn. (+1 kill point!)

Disappointment was the Hive Tyrant, he didn't seem to have a particularly big impact in the combats that he fought in, even with 6 strength 6 attacks on the charge. The defiler was eventually immobalized by him though.

Learning that 'ramming' troops is actually quite pointless. A chaos Rhino rammed my rippers, but being fearless and in synapse range just moved out of the way leaving the tank looking a bit daft.

Denying a kill point by lurking the one remaining hormagaunt behind a wall. (the other 7 hormagaunts were wiped out in one DA rapid fire bolter round!)

The hunter screamer Carnifex being the 'tank killer' that he should be cause a DA predator tank to explode.

Watching said carnifex model catch one of it's talons in my shirt and get knocked onto the ground. Thank goodness the carapace armour works in realife too! I've only got a few painting chips to sort out only.

A very fun battle over all, however even with the minimum of upgrades given to the models, I regularly forgot about Bio acid, and feeder tendril rules untill after the turn was over :( .

Nice work on the marine...I'd also thought of the "weebles wobble..."' thing, too (lol). It's also like the Mr Potato Head 'Darth Tater' character, or the kids toys where you have sportspeople with blown-up heads.
But it does look really good, though.

Nice work on the Tau and the Land Raider, btw.
I need something like that for my Ogryn unit, but it'll be a series of cages full of mad-as-hell Ogres waiting to pound people into the ground, but they'll probably just bounce off enemy units like they usually do.

From my Latin studies, capitus is a variation/declension/whatever meaning 'head' (e.g. 'per capita' when you're talking about GDP/economics meaning 'per head' or 'each/per person') and it spawned a few English words like 'captain' and also 'decapitate'.

Slaaaaaanesh
10-08-2008, 23:22
Thanks andyg2006, Darth tater, and the Optimus Prime one that the do too are quite funny. Captain Capitus.... It's staying even if the general concensus is for 'Bob' Haha.

That Ogryn transport vehicle that you have describes sounds awesome. Let us know when you start a thread on the build, maybe base it on a baneblade chassis then you have more room to fit the cages. GRRRR ME ANGRY OGRYN SMASH EVIL DECEPTICO....(I mean) TYRANIDS!

:UPDATE:
As promised here are two of the truescale command squad. Basically these guys are the command squad accompanying Roboute Guilliman (which I have modelled fresh with his Gauntlets). But that is why the retinue squad contain a techmarine, an apothecary, librarian, and chaplain. These marines were also created directly from the Primarch's genetic material which explains why they are a little larger than the normal marines. Well that's my justification fluff out of the way.

Here is the Chaplain made to look the like the concept Ultramarine artwork seen in a White Dwarf when the current Space marine codex was released. (I'm trying to find a picture of said artwork) The marine is one of the first I ever owned, and the simulated plasma burn effect that you can see is from me holding a magnifying glass and melting the plastic. .....ah miss spent youth!

I also tried my hand at creating moulds by pressing bits that I wanted into milliput. After it hardened, I lubricated the surfaces and added greenstuff.

In total there will be ten of these 'truescale' peeps so stay tuned for the other three for this week, the other five will arrive next week as I tidy one or two things up on them.

Thats very kind of you to say, I am getting braver and trying out much more intricate detailing such as the imperial eagle (with mixed results) and have gained a new respect for professional sculptors who work at this scale.

Another veteran marine holding up a double headed cyber eagle. Nothing too major hear:

1) Cut the body in half and then pinned at the right height.
2) Greenstuffed in the torso and vents
3) Pinned in the powersword from a Grey Knight Terminator.
ET VOILA!

http://lh5.ggpht.com/thebobonator/SKcq1BHJ4BI/AAAAAAAAAgM/HydKJrPTDVs/s800/heavybolterjpg.jpg
A heavy bolter marine. Yet another stretched grey knight with a heavy bolter arm from an old school Chaos Havoc type. Greendstuffed the shoulderpad and then added further detailing. Lastly I pinned in the backpack from a heavy bolter marine.

I realise that the most recent have been stretched conversions (cheating a bit :D) of already quite awesome models but the final three (coming along next week as they need more work) are more traditional truescale attempts. i.e. using terminator bodies as bases.

Today I had a 1500 point battle between the Dark Angels and my Tau.
The battle was quite close untill the very end with both sides seemingly unable to cause anything but crew shaken results on penetrating hits.

A five man jump pack squad were reduced to the two men. They then assualted three Crisis suits and won by one wound. The resulting leadership test was failed, only two was rolled for the Initiative test which meant that they were wiped out (marines are I4 so automatically won the roll off). The same two assault marines also chopped their way through a 9 man Tau firewarrior squad in the same manner. I had never appreciated the importance of the Initiative stat line untill today.

The Tau forces eventually triumphed, whittleing the arrogant soldiers of the Imperium down to only five men.

Without further ado here are some photographed highlights.

http://lh4.ggpht.com/thebobonator/SKnSluVQg0I/AAAAAAAAAjI/AZgpEfnn6So/s400/br1t2.jpg
At about turn three, a (two man) Crisis and Stealth team launch a surprise attack disabling the dreadnought and annihilating a command squad in one turn. (the command squad were in the middle of the image after leaving the rhino which was taken out after two turns of Broadside fire!)

On the otherside of the battlefield in turn four a Predator rumble into the village and only manages to immobilizes a Devilfish (out of shot on the right of the photo) despite firing three lascannon shots at pointblank range.

A survey of the battlefield after turn six. The Dark Angel's board edge is on your left and Tau to your right.

Unit of the match award went to the Broadsides who accounted for the majority of the destroyed Dark Angel armoured units.

Lessons learnt form this battle:
1) A high initiative is important when rolling for 'fleeing'.
2) Markerlights are extremely worth the points investment.
3) Assault marines are very effective in combat.
4) Try to keep a landspeeder moving at least 12 inchs a turn.

Now I don't know about the rest of you on Warseer but I'm not minted. I've managed to get two tanks out of one kit.
Buy one Vindicator, after a couple of hours and snipping and glueing and you get a Rhino free!
http://lh4.ggpht.com/thebobonator/SLLrMp4_dOI/AAAAAAAAAmk/Y-zc766J_xY/s400/vindicator%20shell.jpg

Basically I figured that the Vindicator sprue created a shell over the rhino, and was a bit of a waste. So with the sprues that you get with the rhino chassis I made another frame for the second tank.
http://lh3.ggpht.com/thebobonator/SLLrRKP0sbI/AAAAAAAAAms/CpJsv202gxM/s400/vindicator%20frame.jpg

I've added shin guards to the Titan and have begun the joints on the toes. The beginnings of the weapons have been made also. I think with this standard base I should be able to make more weapons options as I go along to fit the standard bracket.

I need to find my neodyium magnets as they are now crucial for the arm, waist and gunmount sockets as I want them to swivel and be able to separate the torso from the legs for transportation.

Also thinking on what to base him on. I think that several layers of thick artcard laminated together could do the trick but this is one massive base!

Definitely no half assed here I hope! :) I think I will do it Imperial stylee although loads of chaos symbols would look cool too!

Does anybody think GW were a bit tight with the dice? (six small dice and one scatter) I know that veterans have loads from previous boxsets but for a starter it's going to take forever to roll the Ork attacks on a charge!

Your titan is coming out nicely. Have you thought about colors yet?
Your pictures make him look like he just passed out in a college frat house.
Now clean up your room young man! And set some traps, you have a rodent problem.;)

I have no idea what color to paint him yet I think that I will make him Imperial. I do like the darker metallic colour scheme of the chaos warhound titan painted by GW. So maybe something mean and moody with subtle bright colour details.

Any suggestions?

Any suggestions?

Black chrome with a little silver and black.
You will have to put several coats of sealer on the card stock and sanding to get a good surface for metallic I think though.

Slaaaaaanesh
07-09-2008, 22:47
@Tommygun: Thanks for the metallic colour pics, what sealer would you suggest or is it varnish matt/gloss that you are referring to?

Some progress shots.

The legs were braking left right and centre so I spent a session reinforcing them. The feet have now had the toes added (pistions to come) which have added to the stability. The top right of the pic shows the placements of the magnets for the waist.

I've spent the last couple of days working on the guns, unfortunately the plasma cannon ended up being too heavy after the coils were done, so I'm trying to find another way of making one or binning the plasma and building something lighter like a twin laser disruptor.

Any suggestions?

I can't think of a brand name, but a hardware store should have a combination wood sealer/primer for painting.
You have to paint it on, then sand it with something like 380 grit sandpaper.
Next paint it on again and sand again until you get a really smooth glass like surface.
I used to do this with model rockets. It is a pain, but it can be done.
This is the main reason why I prefer plasticard. It has a smooth surface that can be easily painted.

Guys I have made a massive poo of things. I don't know how but the templates that I printed out (I checked each 5cm scale and they were generally only out by 1-2mm) have made me a massive Warhound Titan when the origional should only stand 10 inches tall. Is this how big others have turned out as using the popular titan templates?

This baby is 14 inches tall and is more suited to represent a Reaver Titan (which is 16 inches tall), If I model the missile pod at the top and add the more recognisable round body armour and leg armour plates then this can be passable, and also new guns and maybe a new head too.

What should I do? Keep it as a Warhound (maybe this is truescale? :) ) or slightly re-model it?

Fluff wise this could be a developmental prototype where they began by simply making a larger scout titan before revising the design to the current forgeworld version.

Either way here is a scale comparison:
http://lh4.ggpht.com/thebobonator/SMe_GoqCe3I/AAAAAAAAAt4/p5ybDZjgR00/s400/forgeworld%20tit.jpg

Onnnn the plus side I have made some funky glowing crystal objective markers with the left over template sprues from the Black reach box set.

Tommygun
11-09-2008, 00:41
My titan is 13 inches(32cm) tall. The template, I believe is over sized.
When you see a Forge World titan next to every day objects, you see it is not as big as you imagine it to be.
If I build one again, I would print the templates 70% to 80% their normal size.

P.S. I like your crystals, I will have to play with the spruce when I get it tomorrow.

Thanks Tommygun for letting me know that I haven't done something silly like print the templates out ridiculously large! :)

Now that my silly panic has subsided, I have continued my Warhound titan build. Mainly onto the cosmetic things now, as you can see in the picture I have added detailed top plates and frills, loads of pistons for the legs, mesh grill for the head (teeth to be added next) and engine exhausts at the back.

I'm double posting here because the next series of pics is a set of four.

We had a three way 750 point battle in urban terrain. Here are the three armies.
http://lh6.ggpht.com/thebobonator/SMqqOX16pBI/AAAAAAAAAus/yQYRKCkDUGk/s800/3armies.jpg

Me playing as the Ultramarines and got completely pinned by the Chaos player got the first turn and planted his vindicator of the streets effectively cutting me off. I tried to make a dash for it and blasted him with my two razorback lascannons, but both failed to penetrate!

The resulting vindi pie-plate scattered a mere 2 inches and reduced the transports to rubble (as shown in pic). The Dark Angel predator came round to add to the problem but a lucky krak missile shot wrecked it.

http://lh6.ggpht.com/thebobonator/SMqqbLGjoZI/AAAAAAAAAu8/qRlB9u_DEcs/s800/ultrapinned.jpg

http://lh6.ggpht.com/thebobonator/SMqqVgRBEcI/AAAAAAAAAu0/BzaYB2j8sZk/s800/hidefromvindi.jpg Staring down the barrel of the Vindicator!

http://lh4.ggpht.com/thebobonator/SMqqfk6Lk0I/AAAAAAAAAvE/-bGW5mUsHQg/s800/map.jpg
A view of the battlefield post battle.

The resulting battle was a complete victory for Chaos all due to the Vindicator, and it wasn't even possessed! The Dark Angels were woefully unlucky and barely scratched any armour. Either way an entertaining battle with a couple of lessons learnt about placing deepstriking models and the ridiculous potential charge range of Khorne Beserkers!

Grrrrrr Titan got teef!

Just the detailing phase now as most of the structural build is done now. Progress has been made on the shin armour, Vulcan mega-cannon (finished), the Titan head with teeth, and the plasme cannon (front yet to be finished).

http://lh4.ggpht.com/thebobonator/SNAQX_rousI/AAAAAAAAAvw/SIdoo5vYJDI/s800/titan%20teeth.jpg

Things to be done are:
caps on the joints to cover the tube ends, the back of the toe plates, and the odd shape for the gun mountings. All the rough edges will then be squared off with miliput.

Also thinking about buying the small sheet of brass etching for extra imperial detailing.

Cool thanks for the heads up about the codex falling apart. I think that I moght photocopy the pages that I will need for gaming then only refence those in a shiny plastic wallet. I will keep the codex with me when I use it so GW don't accuse me of being a thief!

I noticed that the scout bikers come with five different heads!!!!! more for my bits box but what can we do with them? (aside from the obvious of mixing them with existing scout models)

I was worried that the Thawk was a little thin as it won't be able to fit a rhino from the assault ramp as the real one can. I will get some pics to compare.

Feel free to mentions criticisms/comments etc, that's why we have these thread on here. :)

Hi Guys I've been busy making up the droppods and scout bikers and they are lovely kits to put together. I have a few issues though:

Firstly which weapons option should I put on the front of the bikers? All three with grenade launchers sounds cool, or should I only give it to the sergeant as he has a higher BS?

Secondly I'm thinking about not putting in the harnesses in the droppods and leaving them empty. In particular I am annoyed how GW have released a 10 model capacity droppod then increased the carrying capacity to 12 in the Space marine codex!

I've also made a scratchbuild today for my Hamster, who we had to put down because his Tumor had gotten much worse, I feel really weird for being sad over a little mammal.

Wow it's been a week already! Feeling a lot better about putting the little fella down but it was for the best. Thank you Melchor and Tommygun for your thoughts too.

I gave Fairy power spray on these models that I picked up over the years via ebay and have been pretty pleased with the results.

I've only tried it out on metal but have read on the forums that it works on plastics without melting the figure.

My method was:
1) Take a clean takeaway box with lid and spray some Frairy juicy in the box, since I was only doing a small amount, I concentrated it around the corner.

2) Put in each model peice that you have taking care to of removed as much superglue as you can.

3) Once everything is in then close the lid, you would probably notice that some of the paint is already coming off and forming a brown sludge.

4) give it 20mins and gentle shake the box to dislodge omse of the paint and generally mix the components more with the fairy juice.

5) leave for another 20mins.

6) Fill a bucket of water up and take an old tooth brush or a cheapy poundland one and gentle scrub the brush over the mini. Do this whilst submerged in the water then the pait flakes won't fly everywhere.

7) repeat untill all models are done and then give them a wash of warm water.

8) Dispose of the the left over used fairy juice and water in a safe place.

Precautions: please if you are doing this do it with loads of ventilation and some rubber gloves and wear eye and mouth protection. Also line the floar with old newspapers etc...

And here are my results.

Ultramarines vs Dark Angels
2000 points battle
Objectives x 3
Corner table deployment

http://lh4.ggpht.com/thebobonator/SPYsCZ6Y92I/AAAAAAAAA3w/GZ-ojX3-vMA/s800/setup.jpg

Turns one and two saw the two armies consolidate near the objective closest to their respective deployment zones.
http://lh4.ggpht.com/thebobonator/SPZQrTWsrvI/AAAAAAAAA5A/Lp8uUJlQDmU/s800/turnonandtwoee.jpg

In turn four the Chaplain space marine charged in with his remaining assaulty marines to challenge Azreal after the army had shot out the squad attached to Azreals squad who were able to enjoy a 4+ inv save.
The titanic battle lasted two turns as Azreal cut down the assault marines in one sweep of his sword, and eventually causing enough wounds to cause the Chaplain's rosarius save to fail.
http://lh3.ggpht.com/thebobonator/SPYskB0UebI/AAAAAAAAA4A/FxJ-Pj68L2c/s800/azraelchaplain%20copy.jpg

The battle went on through to a climatic seventh turn finish. The Dark Angels had captured objective 3 and objective two had been secured after Azreal and Deathwing terminators were finally laid low under the intense lascannon and bolter fire.

However objective one had one last marine protecting it and from the other the Dark Angels at objective 3 came one sniper like shot from the heavy bolter marine to wound the Ultramarine but would his armour protect?

The bunker afforded him a 3+ save which was increased to 2+ as he went to ground. A roll of 2+ would secure the win for the Ultramarines........the dice span....and settled on a ........1! The game was a Draw.

And also my sincerest condolences those little fellows always have a little warm place in our hearts. Can remember when Lus guinea pigs died, one because of senile decay (if you can say it like this, it was way older then 10 years old) and the other one shortly after the first one because of somewhat like a tumor or so (it had hole in his chest around a two-euro-coin big).

Yeah getting over the loss of the Hammy, even though of getting a new one!

I have now milliputted the gaps in the Thunderhawk and added bomb housing bits under the wings and added the heavy bolter wing turrets too. So I'm looking to build eight of the missiles that they carry (sorry can't remember their name at the moment).

And don't worry I haven't forgotten about the Titan!

The thunderfire cannon and conversion beamer look great.
I think if you mount it on the shoulder, people might confuse it with a missile launcher.
I would mount it to a modified back back.

Id say Held in front ala Assault cannon linked with cables to the pack

I like Col. Wales' Assault Cannon idea. You could even modify an AC arm to accommodate the Conversion Beamer.

Good luck!

You could mount that conversion beamer onto a type of servo arm. That is just incredible. One of my favorite weapons from 2nd ed.

Well I finished the Thunderfire cannon's side sections last night, just some random plating detail. I think that it works well enough, just needs rivets now which I should be doing this weekend.

And thanks everyone for your input on how the conversion beamer should be held. I agree that over the shoulder would be too much like a missile launcher, and wouldn't an assault cannon type look too tau stealth suit? I do like the idea of the integrated arm weapon like the servitors. (he could always switch the weapon back to a bionic arm after the battle) The back end would also be mounted a huge backpack, the main idea that I had was to have retractable stabilizers or extend out from the backpack. This would show the master of the forge leaning back in a firing pose.

I remember a game for the PS2, Zone of the Enders where one weapon had to fired with stabilizers and took a while to charge, but the cannon blast that came from it was immense! Thats how I imagine the Conversion beamer to work like. How about everybody else?

That is odd, I was thinking of something similar last night.
I saw this anti tank missile last week where the missile launcher had a brace from the missile to the chest of the person launching it.
Did a Google search but could not find it. That could work too.
It matches the fluff about how the launcher has to be kept very still for it to work correctly.

The mech boyz and Dreads came out really well. I have never used an ork dread or killa kan.
Do they live long enough to reach close combat if the only weapons they have are close combat ones?

Slaaaaaanesh
31-01-2009, 11:13
Thanks Tommygun, I've not actually used them in combat, but I've read around some forums etc and have looked at the unit profile. It seems that the Deffdreads are best left to smash things up and benefit from the extra attacks, while the killa cans are piloted by Grots/Gretchin and have a higher ballstic skill and so should be set up to benefit that.

I'm not sure if the dreads will make combat that often, but with all the other armour that needs shooting up and the cover save that the Mekboyz generator provides there should be a fair chance that they will get there!

Well in theory anyway. :)

Thank you for you comments, there is still a lot of detailing to do but I'm pleased with the structure so far.

These models are currently on display at Warhammer World miniature museum here are some stand out conversions of the Chaos Space marines by Huw.

Particularly the Chaos lord with a siamese body.

I love the possessed conversion, it reminds me of the marauders from Warhammer online. So note to self, Ogre torsos with Chaos Terminator legs fit together well.

Hello a belated thank you to Tommygun, Bomblu and Mdiscala.

I've recently found some more time to paint some Orks, well this afternoon in fact. I already had twenty models prepped, undercoated and skin painted in dark angels green.

So whilst I was watching the Bahrain F1 GP I decided to add a few more layers. However I found that progress was a little disappointing, after the 2 and a half hours I had only painted the cloth (trousers, cloths covering the torsos) in brown and the base coat boltgun metal for anything metal (shoota weapons, helmets Ork bling). For twenty Ork boyz is this a slow painting pace? Roughly how quickly does everybody else paint?

I will endeavor to add pics over the next few days as the camera battery has been playing dry recently.

Right here is what I have been getting up to of late wargames wise. I have been taking part in a tale of three gamers with me starting an Ork army. My friends have been starting their own forces too namely Blood ravens and Eldar we are in the third month of four at the moment and are rather enjoying it.

Along with regular army building we have been building HQ buildings and objective markers also.

Please check out the blog on http://taleofgamers.blogspot.com/
Any comment/criticisms in my warseer blog please.

BTW if you want to see just one army/players army progress then just click on one of the labels on the left hand side of the blog.

Proper new stuff now. I suddenly got the urge to make some Chaos hellblades and helltalons (thats fighters and bombers to you and me).

Here is a WIP of the squadron. This lot will set back just under 1000pts and would should be a fun but vulnerable (only AV10 on all of them!) addition to my chaos army for appocalypse battles.

For those unfamiliar here are the forgeworld models.

Hello guys.

@Tommygun: what do you mean by two sizes? The fighter type are the five smaller ones in the pictures, and the bomber types are the two slightly more central. PS and I've been stalking your city building builds for while very nice work mate.

@Shadowprakt: thanks good to be back dude your imperial fists are looking good, likeing the weathering on the armour.

@Mascharius: Thanks, my mind's eye wants me to do aleast another five fighters and two more bombers but I think that might be overkill. :)

Thinking weapons wise how would I go about making bombs for the helltalons?

Fortress town! :D

With template and foamboard her is the progress so far. There are four normal sized bastions and one half size one to attach to others. An for a laugh I have made two damaged bastions with basic internal flooring so snipers can shoot out of them etc....

The tape in on two of the towers is how I hold the pieces in place as the glue dries.

And a shot of a tech priest inspecting his latest work.
http://lh6.ggpht.com/_KmRSs3Dp9S0/SoldCC3cU7I/AAAAAAAABGQ/mz6IW2_1RzY/s800/minifortressWIP3.jpg

We used them in a game the other night and added a bit more tension to the affair by blocking line of sight and allowing troops to enter the buildings as we normally play with trees and hills.

Pretty pleased with these so even before the cardboard detail needs to be added. After that, a bit of texturing of the walls with baking soda and PVA glue (a tip from Tommygun).

Nice big collection of fortresses.
The static grass on the ground is fantastic!
Just wanted to warn you to use baking powder not baking soda.
The soda doesn't foam up and won't give you enough texture.

Thanks Tommygun, the grass takes a while to glue down but one settled gives a nice jungly board to play on. :)

I'd just copy and pasted what you mentioned about the baking powder on bugbait's thread here to remind me:

Just a note on the baking powder technique.
Don't use baking soda.
I have found it is best to apply the diluted PVA glue with a water spray bottle set to mist.
Then slowly sift the baking powder over the glue with a fine flour sifter that is kept at least 30 cm above the surface.
Keep in mind that the baking powder does foam up a little, this is part of getting the texture.
Try to get it done in one coat, unless you want a really rough surface, as a second coat will get quit rough.
Again, try it out on a scrape piece a few times before using it on the model.
I pick up this technique from a book called "Roy Porter's Model Buildings Masterclass".
It is by far, the best scratch building guide for buildings, I personally have found.

Right baking POWDER, baking POWDER, baking POWDER..... off to shops later to purchase.

I like them. I would suggest adding wire to the broken areas to simulate rebar coming out of the cement.
I make rebar with a thick piece of wire that is wrapped with a second thin piece of wire.
Basically the way GW makes their razor wire, but paint it a rust color.
A little bit of square aluminum mesh would be good too, if you can find it at a craft store.

Thanks for the referrencing picture, I agree that adding a few well placed structural wires like in the GW Cities of Death bits would add to the effect.

Thanks Cragum, I wouldn't mind a game against your guard....... although i'm running scared from the basilisks and masses of templates that my mates guard army can bring to the table these days! :D

Update wise I have build two more walls and did a tester column to see the effect of the melty superglue on the foam. Also added some polyfiller to see how it would look as texture. Currently waiting for some Chaos knights to dry from their undercoat too.
