On a friends site there was a story contest (you know, each write a bit more of the story). It was all fantasy/nothing happens, so I decided to liven it up.

Essentially, Larrikel has just been put to bed by her grandfather who has told her a boring story about her mother etc...

Suddenly, Larrikel was awoken by a roaring that shook the small wooden building. Instantly alert, she burst out into the street, where she was surrounded by villagers, all staring at the heavens. Her gaze shifting, Larrikel could not understand what she was seeing. Ripping through the sky, tearing the clouds apar, were great fireballs. They disappeared over the hills and were followed by a tremendous crashing sound that shook the village.

This terrifying visage continued to what seemed like hours in Larrikel's mind, although it was probably only a matter of minutes. Fireballs continued hammering down over the horizon. However, eventually it stopped. As Larrikel slowly uncurled herself from the ball she had formed on the floor there was a final roar, this time far closer, and then an ending explosion very nearby. Showered in debris Larrikel seemed to lose consciousness, but opened her eyes eventually.

Most of the village seemed to have been destroyed. In it's place was a great tower, conical in shape, and singed on the bottom. The sides unfolded, and out of it appeared, like apparations, ten monstrous figures, clad in great blue armour. The greatest of the warriors stepped forth, removed his helmet, and with a bellowing voice declared:

'Surrender to the might of the god emperor and his Imperium! For the emperor!!!'

Some replies; I've been told it destroys the feel of it, as with little technology they can't face the SM. The worrying thing is that they want to turn it into a book :s

Better get her grandad to start summoning from the warp....

The insistance on lack of technology suggests that some of the people are locked into a preconception even though it's meant to be a community story? An argument for the SM's continued existance: There are lots of mud dwelling citizens of the Imperium where SM's recruit from... Some people argue that magic is just technology that people don't understand. ;)
If it's going to actually be printed into a book, using the SM would probably be a bad idea.

Grandpa is a servant to Chaos?? Uh oh! Better summon the inquisitor! As Larrikel's insight might be needed, she can be inducted into the service of the Imperium. :D

...just what kind of "stories" was grandpa telling her anyway...? O_o
