I was checking the GW news section on the US website and came across this site...

http://gwuscommunity.com/

Apparently its a blog/forum by the US GW design team (or at least Dave Taylor) to form a "positive relationship and help drive the GW gaming community forward".

Not sure if this is old news, but figured I'd share! :)

Definitely a step in the right direction.
I remember the GW official forum years ago and I was really surprised when I tried to access it again and it was gone.
EDIT: It's a pity that gwukcommunity.com doesn't work.

Unfortunately so far it seems to be just an announcements board without any area for discussions.

Hopefully this will change over time.:)

Update:

Indeed it will.:) I asked Chris and he has said that over time discussion areas will be opened up, but they will be limited to the event topics at hand, which is understandable since that's what they have control over. So don't go pestering them with questions about 5th Ed, since they can't answer you... :p

Go GWUS Community Team!:D

Erratas? Surely you jest.

If they ever do put up forums they will be highly sanitized. There are many, many dissatisfied customers that will use it as a place to voice their concerns, just like what was happening on the old GW forums.

In todays market being without a strong communication channel with ur customers is detrimental.

Its a shame that GW have never understood how to use it.

Huw, there are a few people who are authorised to come on the forums......thats it. let s face it though, everything that is written is argued with so they are damned if they do and damned if they dont

HAHAH HAH HAHAHA HAHAH ha...heh. oh. You were serious? Yeah, if only there were some sort of already existing medium they could put their errata and faqs on. Something available to millions that they could easily update at their leisure. Maybe sort of like a book page that people could just pull up on their computer on a whim. You know, something like that. Ah, well, guess there's no such technology to allow the wide dissemination of information. Well, back to looking at porn on teh interwebz.

The important thing is, this new site is not part of GW's main website.

Most of the problem with the old GW forums was that the mods weren't able to IP ban people due to the forums being hosted on the same webspace as the main site.

Also, they picked some really bad moderators.

It's not impossible, even Rackham manages to run it's own community forum successfully, and they've had a hell of a lot more people attacking them than GW has.

Anyway, it looks like this new place is just for discussing GT's and games day, nothing else... which is a shame. A heavily-moderated games development forum would be great.

The problem with the GW internet community in general is not the articulate people who can, for example, write up a rational 7-paragraph explanation of why no-one ever takes empire halberdiers, along with suggested solutions. The problem is the 14 other ****** who insist on posting "empire halberdiers suck, the games designers are retards, GW sucks!" at the same time and rendering any discussion impossible to read with their drivel.

I had to laugh.
Sadly I think it may be more than 14.
However, you failed to mention my personal favorites ... those who write rational 7 paragraph explanations of why the games designers are retards and GW suck! They really get on my ti... You know who you are. :D I think I prefer the ******! :D

It's that kind of apathy that really lets this community down. :D

I wouldn't rate Rackhams forum management as successfull. At least it wasn't when CAOR was announced. Is was worse than with GW forums, almost. You could not discuss about anything concerning R and other manufacturers in the same post, or anything negative without being banned/censored. Of course, if the only measure of success is uptime, then yes Rs forum would be more successfull as it is still online (I guess, I haven't really cared for some time now). If things have gotten better (how could they, I don't know), then ignore me.

I think its just the problem that a massive percent of GW-playing Wargamers are either a tad too young to be expected to post reasonable comments, have never actually sat down and thought about possible in their lives or take every rant that others have posted as the truth.

I've been guilty of that in the past - when I read about Wood Elves and how cheesy they were from one gamer's viewpoint, I immediatly agreed with him...
