Nice big box arrived this morning, tore the wrapping off and my new copy of Starship Troopers was inside.

First thoughts are pretty good, the rulebook is pretty comprehensive and there is an easy start guide.

I could resist putting a bug together and they are the sort of models that take time to get right but once you've put a couple together then it becomes second nature.

couldn't resist a comparison.

cool, well, i'm getting one as well, the arachnids are nice and the mobile infantry look awesome, not too keen on the skinnies though

I think the models are kind of disappointing after all the hype, the bug warriors jaws need to be way bigger, and their legs shorter .

watch the films, they're pretty much in scale

I think they are pretty much in scale as well and I used the shorter of the two leg types on the sprue.

how much scope for conversion on them?

have watched the films multiple times, doesn't change the fact their jaws are too small-

they need to be much larger in proportion to the body in order to look like either the movie or cgi series versions of the bugz . in those the bugs looked front heavy and menacing, all these bugs look like they're leaning away in fear because of the way the aliens bodies lines look .

what are the rules like? anyone tried them yet?

erm, brimstone, do you have any idea for a UK supplier?

Well, I'm not Brimstone, but you could try Leisure Games (http://www.leisuregames.co.uk). Fairly nice store to visit in person (Finchley Central Tube's closest, up the hill and turn right - it's about 1/2-3/4 mile up the road), not personally used their mail order but a friend has and has never had any problems to my knowledge.
Although chances are any independant games store will carry it.

Failing that, you could always get to Salute on saturday and see what Mongoose's stands got. :D

I ordered mine direct from Mongoose although their postage rates could better.

You could try Sai-Lauren's link and most independent stores will probably be stocking it.

has anyone played a game of it yet? If so how do the rules compare to 40K.

Anyone know when the WarStore is supposed to ship thier copies? They have the onsale date on thier website as the 22nd, I was curious as to if folks who preordered it would perhaps get it early or on that date.

Well, they DO encourage you to support the local gaming shop! :D

Easiest answer is on here (http://www.mongoosepublishing.com/phpBB2/viewforum.php?f=13), specifically here (http://www.mongoosepublishing.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=7026&start=0).

I was really looking for a Portenters opinion. I have read the opinions on mongooses forms. I would like someone who is a little less biased.

Thanks anyway.

Well, last night and today, I lined up two SST opponents. All I did was show them stuff and tell them what I have picked up by reading the rulebook. I do have 8 MIs and 3 bugs done. Tonight while I watch BBC, USA detective programs, I'll be gearing up my bug assembly line.

Since we are usually home when the deliveries are made, the special deals from The Warstore will be coming to my place. I should try a little "fee collecting"....naw, maybe not.Hehehehehehehe

Getting assembly and painting done has been touch and go (honey do list and real world). The bugs are going well as are the MIs.

One regular opponent (32 years now) will have his game special deal by Saturday. He had it shipped here (I get to ransom it....heheheh)

One opponent is using the companies site to to check the game out. He'll likely buy it on-line at some discounter or other. (his wife is now disability retired)

The forth opponent is finishing up painting a hundred or so 25/28mm minies for WAB.

One of the "potential opponents", now has the "special deal" I bought. I will be volunteering to help him get going on cranking out Bugs.....then 8 MIs.

Another potential (the forth) will be reading on-line. He'll buy the game to get the book. He will look for the rules only first.

Grrrr. I'm impatiently waiting for my boxed sets to arrive, clawing at the walls like a warrior bug on amphetamines.

Well, I hope you ordered it from Neal. He is busy anyway and SST has been/is POPULAR. This is a good time to go to the site and read the PDFs (NO disclaimer/oath to click)
www.mongoosepublishing.com enjoy it. Lots of FREE info/PDFs, a decent forum.
