Following on from the How Many Armies Do You Own? post, I was curious.

How many hours a week do people spend on this hobby?

I'm actually more interested in how many hours people spend on the modelling and painting, since that's the bit I struggle with. I can usually find time for a game or two on the weekend, but I take ages to finish armies. I'm wondering whether it's the small amount of time per week that I give to it, or if it's also that I'm just ridiculously slow at it.

So, how many hours a week do you spend modelling and painting?

I must confess to being in the 21+ catagory, since moving to university I find mself in the flat with no tv (can't afford the licence) and painting for hours at a time every day (when not doing essays  )

Very very few at the moment. Between university, time with my mates, computer games and my girlfriend, the hobby gets always gets pushed out of the way. But thats ok, I'm happy just to have my stuff. I keep up to date with new releases and the like, and I get a game with one of my mates every few weeks but thats all at the moment, no new models, no painting.

I voted 11-15 hours, but it depends. Sometimes, there are whole weeks where I don't touch the brush at all, sometimes I paint about 6 hours a day. It's all about motivation. Having just bought about 1000 P of VC, I am very motivated atm, but the weeks before I had to struggle to go on with my khorne legion... I'm a bit tired of blood red ;)

I try to get 6-10 hours in if I can. That way, I can get either a batch of basecoats done, or hopefully a batch painted from start to finish.

I play Orks and have over 100 new ones waiting to be painted, so the more painting I can get in the better!

I try to fit in as much time as I can but uni, work and girlfriend get in the way. So around 2 hours would be normal for me :)

it depends, sometime i go for weeks without doing anything and other times i may spend 21+ hours, like the time i painted 500pts of gondor in 5 days

i'd say 0-2 hours though on avarage

I spend about 1-2 on average; regularly none, but once I do paint I get in a real mood for it, spend hours on end painting, so yeah, 2 hours on average.

due to exam pressures, and just general laziness, i voted for 0-2, although i plan to alter that when my exams finish, so i might actually be able to use a full painted army

Though it obviously varies, I'm usually in the 16-20 category. I don't often paint on weekends, but I usually paint 3-4 hours a day on weekdays. It helps me unwind from college courses and work.

When people ask me how I can dedicate so much time to something so "pointless", I usually ask what they do with their free time. Here's the answers I usually get, bearing in mind about 95% are from other college students:

-Xbox360
-TV
-Facebook
-Nothing

I don't know about you guys, but I'd rather claim painting as my general use of free time than Facebook.

hmm i have to be in the mood to paint....and normally the whole process will be a lot slower is a cape or robe is envolved...i take so much time over shading cloaks...it's silly, but the end result is always worth it

I went with 0-2, sadly. Not nearly enough, cry the hordes of primed miniatures swarming my basement.

With the new baby I have I'm usually lucky to get an hour a week in, though I'm trying to push it to an hour a day (which basically eats my warseer time) but lets me get my High Elves finally finished.

The wife and I have also taken to watching the rebroadcast of House on Showcase, so I'll usually do my roughcoats while that's on.....doesn't take much concentration to put a coat of Chainmail on 100 Elves.

About four hours at least six days a week = 21+.

Couldn't agree with you more!

3 or 4 I think on average. But the last few week have finally been a bit more productive again. I always hope for about 6-10 hours.

I am a 6-10 hours kinda guy.;) I have less time for painting since retiring. It's been that way since 1999......

Soooo much to do everyday...sleeping until 0900, watching neighbors go to work.....yeah right!! Honey.....do this and that, go here and there, swimming, mall walking, etc, etc. News programs to watch. The web(Warseer) to wander around.

And at the other end of the spectrum...
0-2 hours for me, cause grade 12 is HELL!!!

I said about 6-10. Like many, I'm in college, and most of my days are occupied, with studies or Capoeira. Some days however, I get an urge and will get in an hour or two of painting. On the weeknights however, I tend to get a lot in, since I'm looser edge, and don't go out drinking like everyone else in rural Connecticut does.

However, recently I've been doing more, as I've been getting symptoms from a medical condition, which make sitting the most comfortable position (as opposed to standing, running, or anything else) so with my new inactive time, I tend to paint a bit more.

It's embarassing, but I spend way more time browsing the forums than painting/modeling. :S

I voted 0-2 hours, although at the moment, I have been rather busy with Uni work. If I did'nt have my Uni work to do, then I would probably spend around 6-10 hours a week, maybe more.

16 - 20 hours for me, but about 15 -19 hours of it is spent converting, which is what i do most

I voted 11-15 hours because sometimes I do nothing and other times I just paint for hours in my room on rainy days.
The weather generally depicts my behaviour.
In summer, not a great deal. In winter I paint all month. Its winter in two months in Australia so i might just say good bye :P

I think I do about 3-5 hours a week. I try to paint for about 20 minutes a day each morning. I rarely get to do much in the evenings between training in, and teaching, Tae Kwon-Do, gaming and socialising.

Mmm it used to be about 5 hours a week, but im doing my Honours degree project at the moment, so it is taking up loads of time, still 32 pages so far, and thats just bellow half way, so i spend 0 hours a week just know. After the middle of May there will be plenty of time to catch up on painting

Id say usually 7 hours a week for me. Alittle more since the local Hobby Shop is having a tourney coming up in a week. Will be my first one ever.
Ive seen some of the peoples armies I will be playing and they are just awful! Basecoats, maybe alittle bit of color but hardly painted. I refuse to go in and look like a bag o' dog poop when I play with my Greenies!

Most likely I will loose, but I will have the best looking army on those tables!

Depends on the time of year. In the summer i do more because i am not doing school work all the time. I like staying up late at night and painting/ listening to Lotr:)
