what army do you think i should collect next necrons orks or dark eldar.

i already have a space marine army woth about 1000 pts

i would really like your suggestions and remember you can suggest armies other than necrons orks and dark eldar.

MT STYLE OF PLAY

i prefer to play defencefully and sit back and shoot the enemy(and hopfuly destroy the enemy)but it never works as i always get bogged down in close combat

Take a look at this pic. Nuf said...

No seriously. Seems to me like Imperial Guard would suit you better...

Erm, expand your Marines. 1000pts is definitley not the definitive way for you to have got "everything" out of the army.

Also, you appear to have an idea of tactics being simply the rolling of dice. If this is the case then none of the aforementioned armies are for you unless you change your playstyle oddly enough.

Necrons can sit back and shoot, and when they get bogged down in close combat they can teleport out!

You've obviously never played against a Necron player that knows what they're doing then. Necrons are far from a "sit and shoot" army.

Nothing. The models are a pile of poo (Barring Incubi and a few Special Characters) and the codex is so ancient with such a steep learning curve that I would not recommend it. ;)

If your playstyle is sitting back defensively and shooting, you have picked the wrong army. Unless you meant Craftworld Eldar, in which case you've still picked the wrong army.

Seriously, Eldar of all types are very much about taking the fight very quickly to the enemy.

And, if you're used to playing Marines, you're going to find the frailty of Dark Eldar *very hard to get used to.

Shooty Necrons...

Yes you stink in close combat buy you have you back to life power!

they have pretty decent capacity of shooting

Dark eldars and Orks need their piece o melee fighting to be of some use

Don't go Eldar, SMs are much better if you lack tactics. Eldar need years of practice and study. Marines, all you need to do is balance it out a bit and make sure the numbers add up to 1500 (note: this is metaphorical, Marines do perfectly well in games of any size, but 1500 sounds the best for this situation).....(I am not insane).

Cheers!

If you are annoyed with CC with a 1000 points of marines you are going to hate playing Necrons at a 1000 points.

I'd probably go with whatever you like the models of, though I'm pretty much of the opinion that you should do all that you want with an army before you go to a new one. 1000 points doesn't seem like a huge number of models to do things with, but it's your army man.

As an Ork player, I (shockingly) like Orks. I think that some of those models are just fantastic and I'm a fan of the whole psychic hippies with guns angle.

The Dark Eldar look to have some neat rules and such, but I've never been a huge fan of their models, though I've thought about looting some of their vehicles for my Orks.

As to Necrons, I thought about doing a Necron army prior to going with my Orks. The packaging stopped me. Warriors and Scarabs and the Lord were alright. The fact that everything else had to be purchased in blisters really put me off though. If you really want to do Necrons, then more power to you, but the price tag on all of those blisters for elites and such can be a pretty rude awakening if you're not ready for it.

Totally agree with your on the necron and dark eldar front.

I started a Dark Eldar army as my main army to be played in Apocalypse rules and after doing alot of research realised they were a little to fragile against alot of things on there own. So have gone with Dark eldar and Necrons backing them up (4 monoliths so far haha, nice hugh square monolith phalanx :D)

But the whole thing about Immortals & Pariahs coming singular in blisters & flayed ones in 2s does mean gettin a few units of 10s each is gonna be costly. But there is ways around it like finding nice places on the net selling at discount :D

Compaired to Space Marines:

Dark Eldar - not good at defending, needs to go out there and hit your enermy, HARD AND FAST

Necrons - just as strong as SM alot of nice rules, just watch out for the phase out, 1 way around this lots of warriors

Orc - sorry not played them ever!! (something about dumb green things that doesnt turn me on)

Rossco...First bit...Is english your first language? If it is, then please punctuate your sentences. I'm not the king of grammar and spelling or anything, but I've been having trouble reading your posts...

Second bit...Eldar are not a stand and shoot army. If you're going to change your tactics, how about you tell us how you'd like to play your army before we give you suggestions? Asking for suggestions without knowing what you're planning on doing is like asking a blind man what color shirt matches your eyes.

I say it's your money go with what you feel. However, some of the other posters brought up a valid point about your marines. You should consdier that marines are a very customizable force you can get just about whatever plaastyle you like

Dark eldar can never fight a defensive battle - they need to be on the offensive or they lose - its as simple as that really.

-----

They also can have incredibly shooty armies - but this is almost always based around killing MEQ's - they cannot run a shooty army vs hordes without their infamous assault specialists (which defeats the sit back and shoot philosophy).

I'd say Tau, rossco

They can shoot really really well, plus their mobility means that if your troops are gonna get charged next turn, simply 'Fish (Devilfish) and Swish away, before jumping out and rapid firing

Also park a 'Fish sideways in frot of your Tau squads. Tau can shoot under, enemies can't charge your Tau cuz there is a dirty great flying tank in their way.

Easy tactics for a great army... why don't I play Tau?

as another ork player, I'd recommend something else for your playstyle. Unless you learn to love close combat, producing gobs of models, and then losing most of them in battle, Orks are just not for you.

Necrons are alright and can be quite fun...just dont expect nearly the flexibility out of your units when comparing them to your SM. And this may be way off base, but why not Chaos space marines? they seem somewhat different from SM and can do cool demon stuff :P

Dark Eldar can't be defenders because in any scenario with defenders/attackers, they are ALWAYS the attacker. Yay for autowinning a roll! Now, if only I could always go first.... ;)

Personally, if you want a defensive army, that isn't SMs, then go with Guard, and if you worry about being assaulted, have some Rough Riders as back up.

Necrons and Dark Eldar are advanced armies, you need to know what you are doing to get the best out of them.

Sorry to double post, but most scenarios no longer have an attacker or defender.

...And I wasn't referring spcifically to a mission's defender/attacker - more of actually during a game (i.e your opponent is on the offensive and yo uare defending - in this case you will lose).
