What army do you love playing/playing yourself? Is it something you rarely see? As long as the army is decent competition wise, winning is just a bonus! What say you?

The armies that I most enjoy playing are the ones with mobility, particularly Craftworld Eldar or Dark Angels with lots of Ravenwing. I get bored, and feel constrained by, slower armies.

Necron cityfight army of DOOOOOM!!!

Let me explain. Take a C'tan. Yes, I know, they're cheesy/ pointless/ slow/ detractors from phase out. Whatever. They move through walls. Add wraiths. Lots of wraiths. Lots of wall-ignoring goodness. Add scarabs. They ignore terrain! No moving through walls though.:(

Now throw in oodles of flayed ones (they roll 3d6 to move!), a Lord (he rolls 3d6!), Pariahs (just because), and Tomb Spyders because they're big. Oh, and some warriors. you are required to have those boring old stodgers.

Wham, bam, thank you m'am- this army effectively ignores terrain, presents a shooty core, and is a joy to play with and against. My most entertaining army. You know, besides orks.

I have a blast playing with the orks! They can be so hilarious out there, and if you're a fan of konverting, this is definately the best army for you! They also have options that let them be fast, cc specialists, shooty, and combination strategies. (yes, I said shooty orks! min-max squads w/ 3 big shootas, warboss retinue w/ big shoota each, lotsa bikes with those precious twin-linked, battlewagon w/ zzap & bolt-on big shootas, big gunz battery. All those big shoota shots on a low save army (eldar, dark eldar, nid hords, other orks, some tau) can really lay waste!)

For playing against, I'd have to go with orks. They've just got a lot of character, and are a nice change of pace from playing against marines all the time. My runners up would be Tau and Sisters.

As for an army to play as, I'd go with either Tau or Eldar. I just like the fact that they have mobility, but don't necessarily use it to charge headlong at the opponent. It makes for a nice, dynamic game. Ravenwing and Orks are up there too. I'd put White Scars on the list under their old rules, but they're a bit more dull now.

I've only played against Orks a few times, and they're a blast to play against. Likewise for Craftworld Eldar and high mobility Tau armies (ie lots of Crisis suits and Devilfish) played on a terrain heavy board. Interestingly, playing as a mechanized IG army is extremely interesting and my opponents say it's fun to play against as well, as it's a fairly unique army set-up.

Playing a well balanced vanilla-Marine army can be pretty interesting too, though they're stiflingly common.

I find the boring armies are generally the ones that are extremist in one direction or another. 90% of Khorne or Black Templar armies are just an insane charge and a race against time if you play a shooty army (as I do). It is worthy to note, however, that this has been alleviated somewhat by the death of the Rhino Rush, as fire-support and selection of assault routes now actually matters and adds some tactical depth in.

Ultra shooty armies are also rather uninteresting to play against. I played against my own foot-slogging IG once and found that the game very rapidly degenerated into a plain out die-rolling contest...

Dark Eldar

Very mobile, more options for deployment than any other army, and plenty of ways to play them. :D

Imperial Guard, on a table with very dense terrain. I use an IG infantry company. Guard versus guard is awesome, btu only if there's enough terrain. if there's not a lot of terrian, it'a a simple shooting match, more to do with luck than strategy. but introduce dense terrain, ther'es suddenly a very high importance on careful maneuvering. you must stay in cover, otherwise you'll be murdered in short, brutal firefights. For once, guns ARE better than swords in 40k, and small arms fire is deadly. :chrome:

Agreed. Right after Cityfight was released, just before I took a break from the hobby and sold my models(driving lessons are bloody expensive), me and a mate played Guard vs Guard on a massive 8x8 city board. Immense fun, and absolute carnage when our Flamer squads and Executioners reached the center of the table. Ended up with a huge fight around the center square that looked like the final battle outside the Reichstag in Berlin :D

I love to play against Orks. Don't know why, but it is always fun.

I really like playing with my Tyranids under the new codex. Just so many options. I also quite like a mix of Guard / Daemonhunters / Witchhunters with all the fun stuff, inquisitors, daemonhosts, arco's, death cults etc.

well, ive always love to play against ORKS, in V -2,3 and 4 as they have a tremendous amount of special rules and characterful bits to make them a joy on the battlefield.

the exact opposite of the TAU :D

Imperial Guard pure and simply. Power Armour just isn't my style and Nids although have so much variation are a little to bland for my likeings. Now i'm not talking about an Imperial Guard Gun line of doom. I'm talking about an Imperial army filled with Commissars Executing Soldiers left right and centre, Psykers perishing to periels of the warp, Enginseers fixing up damaged vehicles who won't blow up, an Attached Inquisitor for all that story potential and the imperial Guard Leadership Team cowering behind the biggest, thickest and farthest back building of them all. That's the guard i like to see and play.

My favourite to play against however is Orks and that needs no other explanation than them being orky :)

I find i love to play against fast armies like dark eldar and harliquins they give me the greatest challenge instead of the sit back and shoot tactic most other armys (exept tiranids) use

ORKS!VS.
ELDAR

Seriously, this matchup is great because the whole armour thing is rarely a factor. It feels like a good old game of 2nd Edition with plenty of carnage and mayhem.

Orks, hands down. That's the way I see it, mind you they have far more of a random factor in fantasy than in 40k..*has never had a dull fight against orcs in fantasy*

I personally have a lot of fun with a mobile necron force. Monolith, Scarabs, and a Lord with a veil. Turbo boost and warp all over the place.

I love my gaurd and tau, nice break form the Space marines. But my favorite army to fight is ORKS. They are a Hoot!

I echo what somebody else said, the most fun I ever have is when my guard army goes up against another guard army, there no other 40k battle like it.

Every lasgun counts, using the cover of chimeras while storming buildings with flamers to clean the place out, moving from cover to cover rapid firing at the enemy... Normally we have so much fun we carry on for 10+ turns until every last infantry squad on the losing side has had his glorious last stand. the best part is the closing turns when everything is up in the air, you have a dozen injured guard squads pushing forwards to claim objectives, clear out a certain piece of terrain etc, those last 4 guy in the ruined building holding out against the odds... I felt for their loss!

It makes me sigh afterwards and think that this game could have been so much more...

I vote Orks, both to play as and against.
