Hi there,
I am looking for images of old box cover artwork (pre 2nd Edition) like the one pictured below. Blister pictures would be fine, too.
Any pictures or links will be greatly appreciated, it's for our Lexicanum-Wiki-project :)

Watch your mouth, young man. Them was different times back then.

@Inquisitor S.: Very cool stuff. I have to admit that I didn't even know this one.

And being the nice guy that I am, and because I like Lexicanum, I'd like to contribute:

Hope this post is ok.. last time I tried to make a post like this the mods came down on it like a sack of **** and the thread was closed almost as quick as i hit the 'new thread' button (although it was pictures of the inside of an old marine painting guide, now out of print for 15 years, so perhaps that was different)

Here is one for now of the old Armageddon board game, will post some more tomorrow!

For the time being: Thanks A LOT guys, very much appreciated:)

I stumbled upon the "Devastators"-Box in the back of an old closet, had forgotten that I even had it ^^ And no matter what the youngsters say, Rogue Trader has a certain appeal, call it nostalgia if you must ;)

And for those who may be interested here are some links to other box covers (crappy quality, but what do you expect from scavenging ebay ;)):

Oh, really, didn't notice that *irony off* It's the blister design that's interesting in that case.

What timing - I returned yesterday evening from my parent's house where my old bedroom from when I used to live there (I left home nearly 20 years ago!) is still as it was, including old GW blister cards and boxes. Unfortunately this means I can't take any pics as I'm nowhere near them again, and won't be for at least another 3 months ...

I've just had one of those old brain flutters, someone walking over my grave, unlocking old memories, type moment from looking at those images.

A bit like Planescape torment.

These are just great pics. At one of local stores around here they have some boxed sets on sale of some really old 2nd and 3rd edition stuff. maybe I should go and take some pics. the best part is, it looks like they got put up for sale and never taken down ever.

I especially like the Epic box stuff, too. The cover for "Space Marine" is simply awesome. Since there seem to be quite some people here who share my compassion, here's more stuff:

@Raven1: Never, ever I will mark 3rd edition stuff as "old". It will always be the "new stuff with the weird style and the terrible ruleset". ;)

@Inquisitor S.: Thanks for more goodness. The cover art of Space Marine really is very unique and cool. Hey, what is the Weltenbrand-cover doing in there? I thought we were going for pre-2nd edition stuff here.;)

Inquisitor S.
21-04-2008, 19:36
Yeah, I know, but since even 3rd Ed stuff seems to be regardes as old... ;)
Apart from I think that it's possible the artwork itself predates 2nd edition.

You're right. Somehow the artwork on the cover of Dark Millenium makes me think of something epic-connected but I'm not sure

Inquisitor S.
21-04-2008, 20:15
In fact the "Dark Millennium" Artwork shares many traits with the cover art for "Armies of the Imperium", so maybe I am mistaken. But I think it could be included in one of my artbooks, so I'll take a look if it's there.

To be honest, that Space Marine Land Raider art almost brought a tear in my eye. Must have been 4th grade or something. Couldn't even understand half of the english texts.
Somehow I've felt that the improvement of miniatures and art have removed some of 40k from your mind and into the physical world in a sad way.
Well, I wouldn't have it any other way I guess.

As you see artwork would sometimes be recycled quite a few times ;)

Oh, nobody denies that.;) Especially in that era, the different armies/races seemed to have had their own "signature illustration" that was used on every boxed release.

I'm really looking forward to someone posting the boxart of the Harlequin box.

I've got WD 105 at home, I'll try and remember to scan the Harlequin box picture later.
