View Full Version : Mordheim: Shadow warriors?

I'm curious, I'm interested in getting back into Mordhiem and wouldn't mine doing a shadow warrior warband.

so any advice for starting a warband? like, how do i equip my warriors, how many novices do I take, and are elven bows worth the extra 10 pts?

model wise, I love the pewter shadow warriors (not the specialist games one though...), but i figure it would be easier to convert a box of bowmen into a warband.

I warn you if you take this warband you will be branded cheesy or beardy since thet're unofficial and really hard.

In answer to your questions:

Just take heros at the start (my brother uses them and his warband is nigh unstopable and he just started with 5 heros) or take about 2 - 3 heros and some novices if you want to go for numbers. Maybe 2 - 3 novices.

In answer to your question of Elf Bows. Yes they are worht the extra 10 GC. Armour Piercing and 36" range are too useful.

thanks, in that case I'll limit my use of hero's and just take loads of regular guys.

Heroes make your Squad earn Money, you will desperately need them!
You can always buy more guys later...

Yes, all of the special elven equipment is very good, and yes, the Squad is beardy/cheesy.

I played it twice and limited myself to just the heroes (so not more than 5 Guys in the entire campaign) as a limiting factor to make it possible for the others to win against this warband.
Effectively this made my SW the best equipped guys around (they could use all their money for spiffy items) and at the same time very experienced (Every Kill is a hero's, so it usually earns you Xp).

Remember that the best Skills to choose are the shooting/Elf Skills, no combat fancy, as you are going to lose anyways as soon as you are in h-t-h. Better abandon one fighter to slow down the opposition and keep shooting them away...

Offically the Shadow Warior Warband is not part of the Mordheim game, as of the recent rules review.

Can I be one of the first to say 'Amen!'

ok... so I gather they're cheesy. I'm not exactly what you call a powergamer so...

So how are the other warbands(i.e. osterlanders, bretonians, orcs...)? mainly the ones not in the book.

Well most of the other warbands espically the Human ones play like the ones in the book. The Savage Orc list can be quite hard and fun to play with. The most intresting one is the Beastmen and Carnival of Chaos warbands from the Empire in Flame supplement.

Bretonians are good if you have minis to represent knights on foot. Its just too expensive to buy them a horse at the start. (Also makes them a huge target for shooting).

Ostlanders are good especially since they get Ogres as henchman which lets them take 2 Ogres if they hire a Ogre mercenary.
