There is a Regiment of Renown called "Ruglud's Armoured Orcs" that are armed with crossbows, but otherwise no.

Nope, why do you ask?

Because you can have Orks with crossbows in Mordheim

Yeah, you could have orcs with crossbows in, uh, 4th ed, too. But, currently, Orc Arrer Boyz get bows.

And you can also get big-shootas in 40K

Edit... no trolling meant here, just could not help it...

:D

Bows only, i'm afraid. Crossbows would be cool, if only because then, Arrer boyz might be worth using...

Arrer boyz are worth using. Just teach 'm how to shoot, like I did :p

A 10-man arrer boyz unit is probably the army's most cost-efficient core choice. 65 points with a musician, and it actually makes a contribution! Put them on a hill and let them shoot stuff.

Except for when they wander forwards due to animosity on turn 1 :eyebrows:

Then don't shoot due to animosity on turn 2 :p

Arrer boyz could also get crossbows in 5th ed. I believe that ancient weapon choice is why we still have an actual unit entry when just an option for normal boyz would be way enough. Talk about a relic from the past...

You must realise that whatever qualities Orc Arrer Boyz possess have nothing to do with the 'Arrer' part. They are an okay unit because they are Orc Boyz (very good) who have bows (not particularly good) and not the other way around.

Thus the main purpose of Arrer Boyz isn't actually to shoot things. It took some time before I realised this, but when I did, it greatly increased my appreciation of greenskins with bows. Their attributes combine to make it so that instead of being a primarily missile unit, they should instead be treated as a close support unit that happens to be able to shoot a bit.

It would be a bit annoying if the Orcs moved due to animosity and thus could not fire their move-or-fire crossbows...

My arrer boyz always kill stuff when it's most unlikely. If it's easy to hit, they miss. From this follows a simple rule, and if I stick to that, all is well.

Well, not like they will hit anything with their bows if they've moved anyway... Mmh, that being said, my wolf gobs ain't better, and they kill a lot of things with their bows, so I feel like retracting that comment.

I normally use my Orc arrer boys as greenskinned meat shields (that can shoot) for my better Orcs. My NGs are on their own and in 30 to 40 body units.:D........Yes, those arrer boys DO roll ones at the most annoying times.:(

in 5th edition mathematically point for point the best missile unit there was were orc boyz with crossbows. Why? they were cheap, had T4 (helps a lot against S3 fire), 30" range, S4 shots. I did the math back then and they came out on top.
