View Full Version : Empire Lords

So the Empire has 4 Lord options, each of which is kinda cool. I'm starting a new Empire army and plan on having mostly guys on foot. Knowing this, what would you guys recommend?

I'm leaning towards the Arch Lector on the War Altar. Has effectively 3 bound spells per turn, 2 Dispel Dice, 4+ ward save and if I give him the Dawn Armor and a Shield, that's a 1+ re-rollable save. :D

Also, any fun or cruel gear combos would be much appreciated to back up your suggestion.

Depends what type of Empire army you are fielding. A foot heavy army would probably benefit best from the old General of the Empire with great weapon, Holy relic and Armour of meteoric iron combined with a BSB. Guranteed to keep the center of your battleline togther at a fairly cheap cost.

Arch Lector all-the-way. Especially for the 1-on-1 Challenge king ;)

Arch Lector;
Heavy Armour (5+ Av.);
Sword of Sigismund (+1STR, ASF);
Shield of the Gorgon (+1Av, Enemy Loses 1 Attack);
Van Horstmann's Speculum (All-your-stats-are-belong-to-me!)

Whilst only sporting a 4+ save (you could ofcourse mount him for a 2+ save), his nifty combo means that:

With this combo, in a challenge his opponent will only ever have 1 attack (thanks to Van Horstmann donating the Lector's 2 Attacks to the enemy and the Shield eating one), you will *always* strike first (thanks to the Sword coupled with taking the opponents I if it's higher) and you'll generally be thwacking the enemy alot harder than they will be you.

Far from optimum (as it relies on getting into a challenge), but so much fun when you pull it off and the enemies face drops ;)

That's very very cruel... I love it. Now I gotta go find a Chaos Lord to challenge in a duel! :D

Aye, very cruel. I also forgot to mention that ofc he's also a Warrior Priest with 2 Prayers a turn - so he's potentially able to heal himself, give himself a ward save, deal an extra D6 hits or gain a re-roll to hit and wound.

Tasty ;)

Problem is that the trick is one of the oldest ones in the book and unless your opponant is pretty green he won't fall for it.

Yeah, I could see this getting over used in a gaming club fast, but definitely something worth it's giggles if you use it occasionally.

Aside from that one trick pony, any other decent gear setups for an Arch Lector?

How cool would it be if the General had Ws5 2A, but Ld10 and 18" ld range (Ala Karl)

I reckon that would have made it a better alternative and more justifiable not to take the h2h specialist, the grand master or the anti-magic/undead, the Arch Lector.

I play a sigmarite army, so it's a no brainer to take the Arch-Lector for me. But for an infantry heavy army, you could try the Empire General. Leadership straight from the center of your battle line and the option for magic banner are not to be neglected.

I personally field a mounted General that leads my 3 blocks of footsloggers and their detachments in the front, a Wizard Lord on Pegasus for magic-sniping and GT on Alter who supports 2-3 units of Knights with an Inner Circle Knights squad led by a Templar Master. Keeps my army well-rounded and my opponents on their toes.

edit: Not all at once mind you, just rotated depending on how I decide to play that battle.

arch lector.... NO a wizard lord with van horstmanns.... noone suspects the wizard :D and then bam they have 1 str 3 attck you have there skills. and you can cast magic while you wait for them.

I don't play Empire often (handful of times in as many years), but my army is led by a General.

It really depends for me. Generally speaking, my army is led by a General. If I want to go magic heavy, which is almost never the case, I take the Wizard Lord. I've used the Arch Lector several times, and generally like them, but tend to stick with the General. Since I rarely use knights at all, and never for the bulk of my army, the Templar Grand Master is never chosen. But, with all character choices viable in the right army, the Empire is a lot of fun to play because you can change your usual choice and still have a functioning force.

When playing 3000 point games, I usually have a General of the Empire, backed by a Wizard Lord.

I personally field a Templar Grand Master for my army general, since I love cavalry.

For your army, however, I would say that either the Arch Elector or Empire General would be the best choices.
