Dragon Mage of Calador 395 pts
- Biting Blade
- lvl 2

10x Archers 110 pts

Reaper Bolt Thrower 100 pts

1000 pts exactly, 4 units, 13 models.

Could this have the off chance of working or is the idea utterly craaaaaziiiee?

4 hero's in 1k eh? thats impressive.
Your normally only allowed 3.

No duplicate magical items either.

yes now that you brought it up it skipped my mind that the sun dragon used up an additional hero slot. Let me rework it into something similar:

Dragon Mage of Calador... 430 pts
- Talisman of Saphery
- Silver Wand
- lvl 2

10x Archers... 110 pts

10x Sword Masters of Hoeth... 180 pts
- Full Command

10x Sword Masters of Hoeth... 180 pts
- Full Command

Repeater Bolt Thrower... 100 pts

not quite the low model count :( but sword masters are nice!

You like punching babies, don't you?

If you lost with this list in 1k points, the other player must be as evil and vile as you are. What are you doing with High Elves, go get some Dark Elves or Slaanesh.

Say what O.o?

Sorry, that's my form of a complement, kinda. It's a brutally effective list that would most likely obliterate 99% of other armies in 1000 points, on the other hand, you wont be making many friends with it. :P

Swordmasters are ranged bait... the dragon mage is evil, but I didn't think you could edit their gear loadout. I could be wrong, don't have the helf rulebook to look at just now.

I stand corrected, thank you :)

I'd like to pit that against this list:

Hero
Dragon Mage
- Level 2
- Silver Wand

Core
10 Lothern Sea Guard
- Shields, Musician

Special

5 Dragon Princes
5 Dragon Princes

2 Tiranoc Chariots

The SMs would probably chew through my Princes, but I'd run over something with the Chariots. Mutually Assured Destruction most likely.

I like this list, I'll keep a copy and try it out hehe. Yes, only against friends' cheese lists.

Well, if you are fixed on taking a dragon mage in 1k, I'd go with the silver wand and the guardian pheonix for the 5+ ward. For all his power the dragon mage is still just a T3 2W elf without armor and a large target. It'd also save you 10pts.

The talisman of saphery isn't going to do much, if enemy characters survive to strike back there is a good chance that they will be able to kill the DM in combat with a normal hand weapon anyway. 3+ to hit 3+ to wound with 3 attacks can certainly do it.

If I were you I would just go for the all Caledor army meaning...dragon princes! You could easily replace the 180pt SM units with two units of 6 princes.

That would be one fast, hard hitting army.

If you wanted to you always have the option to replace the bolt thrower with two eagles but that would leave your archers in the dust.

Ok two new versions:

1.

Dragon Mage of Calador... 420 pts
- Guardian Phoenix
- Silver Wand
- lvl 2

10x Archers... 110 pts

10x Sword Masters of Hoeth... 195 pts
- Champion /w Amulet of Light
- Full Command

5x Dragon Princes of Caledor...225 pts
- Drakemaster /w Foe Bane
- Full Command

Great Eagle...50 pts

2.

Dragon Mage of Calador... 420 pts
- Guardian Phoenix
- Silver Wand
- lvl 2

10x Archers... 130 pts
- Hawkeye
- Light Armour

5x Dragon Princes of Caledor...150 pts

5x Dragon Princes of Caledor...150 pts

10x White Lions of Chrace...150 pts

Are these worse than the original list with only swordmasters? which one would fare best? Both are 1000 pts exactly

I'd go with List 2.

Ditch the Hawkeye and Light Armour. If you're willing to spend that many points go with Lothern Sea Guard with Shields. You only have to move once or twice and then range won't be an issue. On the upside you also get Spearelves.

The White Lions are a bit left out here. Do you have a plan for them specifically? Because I would itch for some march-blockers to delay the rest of the army from curling in towards your attack line.

The reason why some people, myself included, don't give Dragon Mages a ward save is because we really just want to use the Sun Dragon. Blow up a few things for 2-3 turns then go let the dragon feed on your foes.

I'm saying that because there's a tendency to want to hold back and protect him, even though the rest of your list is aggressive.

That's why mine is "full charge ahead", I'll get a few shots in with magic and if he survives then it's time to turn on the flaming sword and go to town.

Well... the idea was for them to kill things :P and to get some more bodies on the floor. Heres another revised list:

Dragon Mage of Calador...420 pts
- Guardian Phoenix
- Silver Wand
- lvl 2

10x Lothern Sea Guard...130 pts
- Shields

5x Dragon Princes of Caledor...150 pts

5x Dragon Princes of Caledor...150 pts

10x White Lions of Chrace...150 pts
or
10x Phoenix Guards...150 pts
or
10x Sword Masters of Hoeth...150 pts

1000 pts

Which brings the obvious question... should i take 10 White Lions, Phoenix Guards or Sword Masters?

lol, yep you cannot have 2 in a 1000 force.

I would not take any of those blocks and get an eagle and a bolt thrower. that would help with speed and add a bit more punch in the shooting phase

instead of the units of 10 maybe a third unit of dragon princes or a lion chariot.

Deus Mechanicus

5x Dragon Princes of Caledor...150 pts

This swordmaster list is kinda weak. dragon mages are really useless, as the moment your dragon stares fighting, somone is going to kill your mage very quickly and easily.

The dragon prince list would be ok, but it is still plaged by the waistfull dragon mage. Get a normal mage and more troops.

I think you miss-understand the idea behind MAD or Mutually Assured Destruction. It means that you would BOTH end up loosing?

Yes, but spectacularly so. That'd kinda be the point; if you can somehow eke out a victory in that scenario.
